Editor Speak 02 Dear colleagues, As the year 2017 slowly wends its way onto the horizon, heralding the beginning of yet another New Year, it brings along an opportunity to make a fresh new start and set bigger goals. It is also the perfect time to celebrate our success and achievements from different business verticals of GVK during the entire year. This special GVK year-end newsletter encapsulates all the major developments and recognitions across businesses within the GVK family for the year gone by. The year 2017 witnessed many great moments and significant milestones for our conglomerate. Our dear Founder and Chairman, Dr GVK Reddy was honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award not just once, but at four different fora through the year, for his exceptional contribution towards the infrastructure sector. A wonderful recognition indeed for a person who is so simple and full of humility. Our Vice Chairman Mr G V Sanjay Reddy had the singular honor of being called upon to deliver the welcome address for the Hon ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi at the Champions of Change workshop initiative organized by the NITI Aayog in New Delhi. It was a moment of pride and honor for GVK, when two postage stamps of Rs 5 and Rs 15 were issued by the Department of Post to commemorate the completion of 75 years of operations of the GVK Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on 15 October, 2017. GVK CSIA thus achieved the distinction of being the first airport in the history of Indian Aviation to be honoured with a stamp issued by the Department of Post. GVK CSIA also received a host of awards and accolades like the Skytrax award for the Best Airport Staff Service, Second Best Airport globally in the over 40 million passengers per annum category and Second Best Airport in Asia Pacific, Highly Commended Airport for Marketing ; a five-star rating in the Five Star Occupational Health and Safety, Natural Capital Award, Best Sustainability Report and Best Overall Excellence in CSR, Airport of the Year, National Tourism Award, Procurement Excellence Awards, The Emerson Cup 2017, Outstanding Contribution in Airport Project, Greenest Building in India, Most Productive Building in India and Smartest Largest Airport Building etc. GVK EMRI, one of GVK s most significant social initiatives, was honored over the last 12 months with awards and recognition across States. Our other verticals including life sciences, realty, transportation and hospitality continue to make us proud by winning industry accolades. Our Taj GVK Hotels constantly raise the bar in service quality and food & beverage standards in the Indian hotel industry. The GVK ONE mall in Hyderabad brought home many awards yet again this year and enjoys a premier position as the most preferred shopping and entertainment destination of Hyderabad. GVK BIO created a ripple in the biopharma industry by launching India s first mobile App eclue for Drug Discovery services to simplify the whole ordering process from inquiry to delivery. And finally the crowning glory was when we were declared the successful bidder for the upcoming Navi Mumbai Airport and GVK MIAL received the Letter of Award from CIDCO on 25 th October 2017. On 13 July, 2017 GVK Power and Infrastructure Ltd announced the successful completion of the sale of its residual stake of 10 per cent in Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) to Fairfax India Holdings Corporation (Fairfax India). During March 2017, GVK closed an agreement which was signed during March 2016 with Fairfax India to sell a 33% stake in BIAL. It had retained a 10% stake and the management of BIAL. Subsequently, in June 2017, GVK announced its decision to conclude the sale of this 10% residual stake to Fairfax India, subject to necessary consents and approvals.
