NEWSLETTER NUMBER 2 - September 2016 75 th Anniversary of Program and the rthern Territory Government have produced a commemorative program of events for the 75 th Anniversary of (February 2017). This program provides the opportunity to remember and commemorate those, including the surviving veterans and civilians, who contributed to the defence of our country during World War II. The rthern Territory Government events are open to the community and all who are travelling to Darwin for the Commemorative Service. Further information on times, venues and costs for these events will be released on: www.frontlineaustralia.com.au, www.territoryremembers.nt.gov.au. If you are a Veteran, Civilian, Evacuee, Widow and direct descendants joining us in Darwin 2017 to commemorate this National Day of Observance, you must complete one of the attached registration forms to confirm your attendance and submit by Wednesday 30 vember 2016. Please note for direct descendants one registration form per family. Partnership with AFL rthern Territory (AFLNT) The 75 th Anniversary of the falls on Round 18 of the 2016/2017 TIO rthern Territory Football Season, the last round before the finals commence. A partnership has been formed with AFL rthern Territory working with the local community to raise awareness on this National Day of Observance, the 75 th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin, the day World War II hit the shores of Australia. Three senior games will be played at the stadium on Saturday 18 February 2017 and everyone is invited to come out to see our teams in action. There will be family activities and entertainment between the games and half times. The fixture will be posted on the Frontline Australia website once announced in late September 2016. With over 45,000 members Territory wide, Australian Rules Football plays a significant role in the formation, development, unity and spirit of the rthern Territory. Celebrating its 100 th year in 2016, the profile of the Territory s most popular sport continues to grow. The rthern Territory Football League (est. 1916) is AFLNT's Premier Football Competition. It is the footy competition that runs from October to March each year, operating in the unique conditions of the Top End's Wet Season. The league consists of a three tiered divisional senior mens competition, a strong and fast growing women s competition and under 12, 14, 16 and 18 competitions that cater for junior males and females.

Civilian Memorial Wall, The Esplanade In recognition of the significant role that civilians played during the bombing of Darwin, the built a civilian memorial wall to honour their efforts. The memorial wall was constructed in January 2006 and is at the entrance to the Cenotaph area in Bicentennial Park. Eligibility for a plaque is for those families present in Darwin during the war, including evacuees. Although targeted at civilian families, family members whose residency in Darwin was due to military deployment may be eligible if that family had a clear connection with the civilian community. Plaques recording the families are placed on the reverse side of the wall in order of receipt of plaque. The plaques are cast bronze with etched wording and measure 150mm x 100mm.
