You to Be YOU! Our Camps CAMP HOLLOWAY exemplifies the rich history of Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee. Located on 76 beautiful acres just 30 minutes north of Nashville, Camp Holloway is named after Josephine Groves Holloway, the founder of the first African American Girl Scout troop in the Middle Tennessee area. Camp Holloway activities include rock climbing, rappelling, archery, cooking, low challenge, tree climbing, swing by choice, swimming, creek stomping, creative arts, and more! We also host specialty programs such as Harry Potter, spa, theatre, and various travel programs. Sleeping units for Camp Holloway include cabins and platform tents. CAMP SYCAMORE HILLS is located in Ashland City, TN and provides experiences for girls between 5-17 years of age. The camp spans 742 acres of beautiful bluffs, woodlands, meadows, streams, and rolling hills. Activities include horseback riding, canoeing, kayaking, archery, tree climbing, art, science programs, outdoor skills, swimming, high and low challenge course, and a zip line. Living units are varied with screened cabins and cabins. OUR CAMPERS Our campers are girls between the ages of 5-17. Most campers are in Girl Scout troops, but many are not. Girls do not have to be Girl Scouts or in troops to come to camp. Our campers come from Tennessee and surrounding states. TIME OFF Each staff member has two hours off Monday through Thursday in which they may leave camp property (except during Staff Training Week). Weekend time off is usually Friday 7:00 PM until Sunday 12:00 PM and is dependent on position. Some positions will have alternate off days. SLEEPING UNITS Campers and staff stay in a variety of living quarters including: cabins, screened cabins, and platform tents. All staff members are on duty overnight and are expected to be attentive to campers needs. Housing is not guaranteed: we expect staff to stay in all housing on property. POLICY ON TATTOOS AND BODY PIERCINGS Tattoos and body piercings (including facial piercings) must be covered at all times. We prefer you to remove facial piercings and wear a clear stud. POLICY ON HAIR Hair must be neat, clean, and groomed. It must be appropriately styled for the activity (tied back in adventure activities, for example). Staff should have hair color that could be considered natural for someone no rainbows, please! Colored hair is permitted if it fits in the guidelines above; red, brown, blonde, or black. TRAININGS Staff orientation is provided prior to camper s arrival and includes the following and more: Behavior Management Camp Life Conflict Resolution Cultural Awareness Health & Wellness Homesickness Risk Management ENRICHMENT TRAININGS Enrichment trainings are required for certain positions and are available for all interested staff who qualify. The following positions require additional training and First Aid and CPR certification: Adventure Counselor, Aquatics Counselor, Archery Counselor, and Equestrian Counselor. FIRST AID & CPR As a condition of employment, First Aid and CPR certifications are highly preferred for all positions. We provide the opportunity for this training for $45, or you may obtain the certifications from a nationally recognized organization such as the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association. Camp Staff Positions Positions are available at both Camp Holloway and Camp Sycamore Hills unless otherwise specified. Positions include housing and meals. Most positions require you to live on site. All staff must be able to direct camper behavior in positive ways and assist in emergency situations to keep the campers safe. All available positions require working in the outdoors, which includes regular exposure to weather conditions such as heat, humidity, rain, and storms, as well as exposure to insects and wildlife. Staff members will walk six to ten miles a day at a brisk pace and on uneven terrain and should be able to climb stairs and lift up to 50 pounds. All staff members are expected to be able to self-manage mental, emotional, and social health in a fast-paced community environment. Each staff member is considered a counselor with the main focus of their work engaging with campers. *Salary range shown is weekly. Counseling Team LEAD UNIT COUNSELOR Responsible for campers and counselors in units and for managing behaviors, unit activities, and staff supervision. Must have ability to supervise campers and staff members and organize and implement safe, fun, and age appropriate activities. One year of resident camp experience preferred. LEAD UNIT COUNSELOR: DAY CAMP (Camp Holloway) Responsible for coordination of all day camp programming including, but not limited to, program development and implementation, staff training and scheduling, management of the daily check-in and check-out process, coordinating daily transportation to and from camp, and management of aftercare. Must have customer service experience and the ability to supervise staff and campers and organize and implement safe, fun, and age appropriate activities. Two years of camp experience preferred. LEAD UNIT COUNSELOR: TRAVEL (Camp Holloway) Responsible for all off-site travel programs including day and overnight trips. This includes, but is not limited to meal planning, checking gear, coordinating with vendors, coordinating transportation, managing health forms, and emergency action planning for trips. This position is also responsible for managing behaviors, unit activities, and staff supervision in units and off camp. Must have ability to supervise campers and staff members and organize and implement safe, fun, and age appropriate activities. Two years of resident camp experience preferred. ASSISTANT LEAD UNIT COUNSELOR Assist with unit daily activities and management of campers. Support 1-2 units with supervision of a group of 6 16 campers, deliver unit programming, and serve as a relief counselor during breaks. Must be able to work independently and recognize needs within several units. UNIT COUNSELOR Directly supervise a group of 6-16 campers in daily activities and foster a positive camp experience while creating a safe and welcoming environment for campers and staff. Responsible for managing camper behavior and tending to hygiene of all campers. UNIT COUNSELOR: DAY CAMP (Camp Holloway) Directly supervise a group of 6-16 campers in daily activities and foster a positive camp experience while creating a safe and welcoming environment for campers and staff. Responsible for daily interaction with camper families, morning check-in and afternoon check-out of campers, and management during transportation of campers to and from the Nashville office. Responsible for managing camper behavior and tending to hygiene of all campers. Site & Support Team CAMP HOST Acts as a coordinator for international staff at both Camp Holloway and Camp Sycamore Hills. This includes arranging transportation from the airport and coordinating weekend plans and July 4th outings. This position is also responsible for ensuring international staff have acclimated to their new surroundings. This position is Wednesday Monday and requires travel. A valid driver s license is required. Salary range: $246-$280 FACILITIES COUNSELOR Responsible for cleaning community buildings, assisting with kapers, and the cleaning of program areas at camp. Work with staff and campers to create a clean and welcoming environment. Responsible for kapers, simple maintenance, and cleaning program at camp. On site living not required. BUSINESS SPECIALIST Manage camp checking and petty cash accounts, purchases, and camp trading post. Submit purchase orders, invoices, and reconcile camp budget on a weekly basis. Experience in summer overnight camp and Girl Scouts is preferred. A valid driver s license is required. Salary range: $246-$350 BUS DRIVER (Camp Holloway) Responsible for all off-camp excursions and day camp transportation. Must be comfortable and competent to drive a 14 passenger bus. Must have a clean driving record and a valid driver s license. A valid CDL with passenger endorsement is preferred, but not required. Salary range: $250-$350 Health Team HEALTH OFFICER Manage camp healthcare program for campers and staff including medication administration; parent communication; evaluation, assessment, and treatment of medical needs; and medical documentation. Nursing students or experienced health care professionals preferred. Applicants must have a valid driver s license and must be able to lift 50 pounds. Current First Aid and CPR certifications required. Experience with customer service is a plus. Salary range: $250-$500 ASSISTANT HEALTH OFFICER (Camp Sycamore Hills) Work with the health care team to manage health records, correspond with parents, and assist with basic medical care. Current First Aid and CPR certifications required. Experience in customer service is a plus. Program Team All program counselors are responsible for delivering programs, engaging with campers, and serving as camp support. Camp support includes but not limited to facilities, all camps, cleaning, and counseling. Program counselors are expected to live with and help with campers and living units when not leading programs. PROGRAM COUNSELOR: ART Responsible for implementing age appropriate arts and crafts programs with positive energy to build excitement in the arts. Assist with general unit programming and management. Applicant must be creative, organized and have experience in varied media such as paint, charcoal, clay, etc. PROGRAM COUNSELOR: AQUATICS Provide a safe and fun aquatics program including, but not limited to canoeing*, Corcls, kayaking*, funoeing, swimming, and tubing*. Assist with general unit programming and management. Lifeguard certification required. Training for small craft or swift water rescue is preferred. Required course is available during Enrichment Training. PROGRAM COUNSELOR: ARCHERY Manage and implement a fun and safe archery program. Assist with general unit programming and management. Archery experience as a participant or facilitator preferred. Archery Level I certification is required. This training is available during Enrichment Training. PROGRAM COUNSELOR: EQUESTRIAN (Camp Sycamore Hills) Develop and implement age and ability-appropriate, progressive English and Western riding programs. Assist with general unit programming and management. Must be a confident horseback rider and have knowledge of safety around horses. Riding instructor experience and/or CHA certification preferred. First Aid and CPR certification is required. Trainings are provided during Enrichment Training. LEAD AQUATICS COUNSELOR Supervise aquatic programs such as pool activities, tubing*, Corcls, kayaking*, and canoeing*. Assist with camp wide programming and management. Lifeguard experience and a nationally recognized lifeguard certification as well as supervisory experience are required. Required course is available during Enrichment Training. *Offered at Camp Sycamore Hills ONLY PROGRAM COUNSELOR: ADVENTURE Supervise and deliver programming on high/low challenge elements and tree climbing in a safe and positive manner. High/low challenge elements vary at each camp. Experience as a participant or facilitator preferred. Assist with general unit programming and management. First Aid and CPR certification is required as is challenge course training and or certification. These trainings are available during Enrichment Training. LEAD ADVENTURE COUNSELOR Supervise all high/low challenge elements and tree climbing programs. High/low challenge elements vary at each camp. Keep records, supervise adventure counselors, and coordinate weekly schedules and staff. Assist with general unit programming and management. Minimum six months of supervision in these programs is required. Current First Aid and CPR certifications preferred. Level 1 ACCT certification is required. Courses are available during Enrichment Training. PROGRAM COUNSELOR: CULINARY (Camp Holloway) Responsible for implementing culinary programs at camp with the aim of campers improving cooking and/or baking knowledge and skills. Responsible for coordinating supply needs with the kitchen and planning for allergies and food issues with the Health Officer for cooking programs. Assist with general unit programming and management. Applicant must be creative and organized. PROGRAM COUNSELOR: STEM (Camp Sycamore Hills) Create and implement a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program to include components of chemistry, coding, engineering, and robotics. Assist with the general unit responsibilities and management. Experience in STEM programming preferred. PROGRAM COUNSELOR: CREATIVE ARTS (THEATRE/DANCE/MUSIC) (Camp Holloway) Responsible for implementing age appropriate drama, music, and dance programs with positive energy to build excitement in the arts. Assist with general unit responsibilities and management. Experience with theatre, dance and music is preferred. Current First Aid and CPR certificate is preferred. Minimum age: 19 *Offered at Camp Sycamore Hills ONLY PROGRAM COUNSELOR: MEDIA Responsible for photography and documenting daily camp life using an online photo gallery. Develop media presentations for parents, staff and campers. Implement age appropriate media programs as needed. Experience with digital photography, uploading and posting photos is required. PROGRAM COUNSELOR: NATURE/OUTDOOR Create and implement an outdoor/nature skills program to include outdoor cooking, hiking, tent pitching, knots, Leave No Trace, and nature programming. Assist with general unit responsibilities and management. Experience in outdoor education preferred. Current First Aid and CPR ceritfication is required. Salary range: $250-$400 Kitchen Team Prepare meals for large group of campers and staff (approximately 300 diners at Camp Sycamore Hills and 150 diners at Camp Holloway) each week. Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment. KITCHEN MANAGER Supervise kitchen staff and meal preparation for camp population each week. Duties include planning menus, ordering food and supplies, preparing and serving food, and scheduling and supervising kitchen staff and needs. Ensure that kitchen exceeds passing scores on Health Department site visits and enforce food safety regulations. Food management experience and food service training preferred.
