It looks like it's time to put our bikes away for their long winters nap, hopefully it will be over quickly. Our first round of officer nominations is complete with the second and final round to be completed during our November 13th meeting. As of the first round of nominations the only primary officer position left without a nomination was for the Assistant Director. Just because the other officer positions have nominations certainly doesn't mean they are closed for more. The dates for the 2019 Iron Adventure Run of New England in Ludlow VT at Jackson Gore have been set and room reservation with discounted rates at Jackson Gore are now open. As a reminder, there will not be a December H.O.G. monthly meeting so please join us at Twin City Lanes on the Barre-Montpelier Rd December 1st for our annual holiday gathering. Executive Road Captain and Activities Director Update Greetings All- Well it happened, our official scheduled Chapter rides for 2018 have come to an end. It was another great year of planned Chapter rides. We enjoyed ice cream rides, lunch rides, long, short, and everything in between, even an overnight-er. It was another great season with lots of memories made. I want to thank all the assistant Road Captains of 2018 for helping me put such a great year together. At our October 9th Chapter meeting, we identified our September 2018 Challenge winners. Archie Hutchinson was our second place winner, taking home a $50.00 gift card to Wilkins Harley Davidson. First place winner was Richard Couture, he took home a $100.00 gift card to Wilkins. At our last meeting we enjoyed a baked goodies contest, everything was delicious. thanks to everyone who baked something to bring in. Speaking of baking, at our next Chapter meeting November 13th 6:30 PM at Wilkins Harley Davidson will be our "Annual You Bake it we auction it". That right, bake something, anything- cookies, brownies, pies, cakes, bring it in and we will auction it off to the highest bidder. You don't like to bake? that's OK buy a package of Oreo cookies we'll auction that off too. Anything - well almost anything - goes. The money raised from the auction goes toward our Christmas Party in December. Good segue to my next topic. 'CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY HOP PARTY' December 1st 2018 Twin City Family Fun Center. Last year seemed to be such a hit we decided to try it again. From 2-5 PM bowling and socializing (Chapter will be paying for the bowling and some appetizers) folks are responsible for their bowling shoes. At 5 PM we will move into the dining room K's Korner for drinks, dinner, socializing, and of course our ever-sointeresting gift swap you never know what might be unwrapped For the gift swap bring in a wrapped unlabeled gift. This is a "Closed Event" Central Vermont members and one guest per member only. Please send an email to officers@centralvermonthog.com if you plan on attending. Also please contact K's Korner between November 19th-26th to place your meal choice. They want to make sure they have enough of everything. Twin City Family Fun Center & K's Korner 1-802-476-6181 http://www.twincityfamilyfuncenter.com ask for Kim Hastings tell them you are with Central Vermont HOG (Harley Group) That's about all I have for now, hope to see you our November meeting which will also be our second and final round of nominations for 2019 Officers. SADDLE UP LET'S RIDE!!!!

Vee Twin Rumblings VOLUME 31 ISSUE 10 Central Vermont H.O.G. Chapter #5218 Page 3 Minutes of October Social held on 10-9-2018 at Wilkins Joel DeLary, director, opened the meeting with a few words of thanks to past and current military personnel and all First Responders. We pledged allegiance to the American flag. Joel reminded people that the Iron Adventure for 2019 will be in Ludlow. The costs will be the same as this year: $25 and $35. The organizers are looking for volunteer road captains to plan and provide rides on local roads for Iron Adventure attendees. There is an Iron Adventure Facebook page people can go to for more details. He also mentioned that our Chapter holiday HOP will be held on December 1 st at the Twin City Family Fun Center a repeat of the plan for last year. Bowling from 2-5 p.m. Appetizers, dinner, and party in K s Korner Bistro right there in the Fun Center. The Chapter will pay for the lane rentals and appetizers. We ll do a Swedish Swap again. We wished Chapter member Patricia Hutchinson a Happy Birthday. Head Road Captain, Justen Elliott, thanked everyone who was a Road Captain this year. He also reminded us that the last Chapter ride for the season will be a Co-Chapter foliage ride on October 13 th, with Road Captain Ben Drury. Meet at Wilkins at 9 a.m. The group will leave at 9:30. A lunch stop is planned to take place at Hart s Turkey Farm in Meredith, NH. Justen Elliott, Activities Officer, presented the results of the September Challenge, for which people needed to solve 10 riddles to figure out what location was being described. At each location, the participant was to take a photo of their bike with a sign saying 2018 CV HOG Challenge. Two people correctly solved the riddles and went to all 10 locations: Rick Couture and Archie Hutchinson. So, there was a drawing to break the tie, and Rick came in first. He was awarded the $100 Wilkins gift card, and Archie won second place, a $50 Wilkins gift card. It was mentioned that we should do this again next year (with new locations and riddles, of course). Membership Officer, Linda Lamell, read an email received from Kate Steward (Volunteer Services Coordinator at the Vermont Foodbank). A group of 14 people representing the Chapter plus two additional volunteers arranged by the coordinator (one of whom was Chapter member Bill Wolfe s daughter, Abbie) spent 4 hours putting together boxes of food for distribution to older adults in need on October 6 th. The hope is that we will be able to sign up for several Foodbank Sort-a-thons in 2019. Treasurer, Joe Lonardo, gave a report detailing the current account balance for the Chapter. He stated that the details of our bank balance should not be published in newsletters because they are accessible by people who are not members (via our website). Linda Lamell pointed out that our current annual membership fee of $20 doesn t need to be that high now that we don t have our newsletters professionally printed and mailed out (they are sent via email to members, and a very few members receive copies in the mail by special request). Lowering the membership fee, when paid by check or cash, to $15 was discussed, proposed as a motion, seconded, and voted into place. Online memberships will continue to be $20 we lose a portion of each $20 payment to processing fees (paid to SQUARE the financial services company we use to process these payments). LOH officer, Trina DeLary, proposed a Chapter-hosted children s pumpkin carving event to be held at Wilkins on Oct. 27 th. She had looked into the question of liability with National HOG and was advised that the event, if sponsored by Wilkins, would not require liability-coverage by the Chapter. She estimated the cost for 20 pumpkins, a dozen carving kits, and light refreshments at $125. The motion was made, seconded, and carried to provide up to $125 from the Chapter funds for the event, which will be mid-day on October 27 th. On behalf of her son, Dylan Currier, Trina read his Thank You note to the Chapter for selecting him as one of the recipients of a Riding Academy scholarship. He completed the course on September 30 th. Congratulations to Dylan! Tom Ricker presented the Wilkins Dealership Update There is a newly-installed handlebar fitting wall system you can sit and try out different handlebars as if you are riding. Get a sense for what might work well for you. There will be a heated gear demo available on Saturdays people can try on gear and plug it into a bike to see how it might work for them. Wilkins has special deals for non-harley owners looking to make a trade. We had six entrants for the Apple Dessert Contest. Everyone had a chance to sample the 6 desserts and select their favorite by putting a marble in a cup by the numbered dessert they picked. The winner of a Wilkins gift card and first place ribbon was Ronnie Allard. Second place went to Marie Boutin, and third place went to Holly Ashe. The first round of nominations for Chapter officers for 2019 were made and seconded at this social. A second round of nominations and the final vote will take place at the November Social. The preliminary slate of nominees, compiled during this October Social, is on page 5. Door prizes were awarded, and the 50/50 raffle yielded $41 for the Chapter and $41 to the raffle winner, birthday girl Pat Hutchinson!! Minutes submitted by Secretary, Linda Lamell. Membership Update (Linda Lamell, Membership Officer): Our Chapter has 154 members.
