4 1 Requirements The required network was the subject of a tender dated 20 August 2010 and subsequent iterations of the requirement. In its final form the network specification comprised the following: Item Gauging station comprising steel security stilling well, Hobo U m water level 11 recorder and stage board as required by site Atmospheric pressure recorder ( Baro unit) 2 Stainless steel Octapent rain gauge, modified to meet EA requirements 4 RIM8020 tipping bucket raingauge (TBR) (0.2mm tip) inclusive of Isodaq 1-channel 3 logger Campbell CR1000 Automatic Weather Station (non-telemetry) comprising: ARG100 1 aerodynamic tipping bucket raingauge with RGB1 baseplate, Skye SKS1110 radiation sensor, WSS2 wind speed and direction sensor, RH1 temperature/ humidity probe in SS1 radiation shield, SCU2 solar charger unit, 2m mast and programmed ready for operation Number Additional sundry items have also been supplied under the terms of the contract: Item Serial data communications cable 1 50mm flat bottomed perspex measures to ABoM drawing 2 HoboWare Pro software for PC 1 Optic USB Base Station 1 Gauging station Allen key 2 Number All of the required equipment has been installed, as indicated in the map at Appendix 1 and the tables in Appendices 2 and 3. Gauging station stilling wells were made to bespoke designs for fixing into either hard or soft bank materials according to local site characteristics. Hand-over to the University for operational purposes will be complete by 23 March Record start dates are shown in Appendix 3. 2 Data recording All instruments were tested before deployment to the field. One faulty rain gauge logger has been returned for remedial action and returned to WHS. All loggers were deployed logging into the field and are set at 15-minute recording intervals. The possibility of deploying a camera for programmed use with the weather station as a power source has been raised. 3 Operational phase In operation, WHS recommends that the following matters are considered by the client: Choice of flow gauging sections Flow gauging techniques at each site Risk assessments and safe systems of work Protocols for fieldwork, data processing, archiving and quality assurance 1
