3 INTRODUCTION Since 2007, Fife has been the number one destination for outdoor recreation in Scotland. One of the most popular ways to enjoy our great outdoors is to travel on the Fife Co. The o runs from the Forth Estuary in the south, to the Tay Estuary in the north and stretches for 117 miles (187km). The p is clearly waymarked and offers a range of businesses and facilities along its route; keep an eye out for our very own s. A, as the name suggests, is your one stop shop for information and facilities on the o. Businesses will offer you the chance to use their toilet facilities as well as providing an information hub about the p. A warm welcome awaits all those who visit. Look out for our logo in their window. The p is managed, maintained and promoted by oast and Countryside Trust, a registered Scottish environmental charity. This guide has been designed to help you as you travel along the p and it has been divided into chapters which include maps of each section. If you would like more information about the p then we also have a free leaflet which is available in visitor information centres, libraries and at our own co visitor centre at The Harbourmaster s House in Dysart. We are also publishing a book in 2012 that will be written by our co p rangers, who have decades of experience of the p. We hope that their knowledge and experience will allow readers to gain a unique insight into the coastline. Keep checking our websites for progress updates. It starts at Torryburn and follows the shore before cutting inland at the old Kirk, then skirting Crombie village before descending through quaint Charlestown to finishing at the historic harbour of Limekilns. 27 27 GUARDSBRIDGE TO TENTSMUIR This stretch of the o is approximately 9 miles (13.5km) and begins in the busy crossroads village of Guardbridge. This section follows roads until Leuchars where the character changes dramatically, passing the airfield of military Leuchars, out onto the open and wild feeling Earlshall Muir before entering Tentsmuir Forest. The walking is fairly easy with a small amount of rough track across Earlshall Muir. A varied section leading back towards the Tentsmuir coast. 28 28 TENTSMUIR TO TAY BRIDGE This stretch of the o is 7 miles (10.5km) long and takes the walker through the Tentsmuir forest out across the Tayport He into Tayport, this section is on mainly good quality forest track giving easy walking underfoot and suitable for bikes and off road push chairs. From Tayport to the Tay Road Bridge is a tarmac surfaced high level walk along the outer Tay Estuary with views north to Broughty Ferry and Dundee. Once again easy walking underfoot and good for cycles and off road push chairs, may be passable by sturdy off road design wheelchairs however caution should be taken due to some short but steep hills.
