11 Main objectives of the project Modernization of public transportation in Medellin is part of an Integrated Urban Project Development of public transportation infrastructures : cable cars & public electrical escalators connected to subway, buses and streetcars networks as well as social, cultural and leisure amenities (libraries, stadiums, public parks ) within green corridors in a participatory way 11

15 Why use a cable transport system in an UT system? Pros: No topographic constraints crossing of rivers, steep slopes, densely inhabited areas, infrastructures. Limited needs in terms of RoW(towers and few stations) quicker development High capacity (up to 4500 pax/h/direction) Cons: Straight lines (unless turning stations + detachable gondolas) Limited length (usually 3km, 5km at most) Few stations: the number of stations is the main driver of the costs Visual impact 15
