3 Facts About Musambwa Islands Musambwa islands are three small rocky islands that lie in the Lake Victoria. The largest is about 5 ha in area separated by about 800m from the smaller one covering about 3 ha and between them is the smallest which are just rocks jutting out of the water with little vegetation. The terrain of the islands is rugged, dominantly covered with shrubs of Earlangea spp interspaced with Ficus trees. The island is the only known breeding ground of the migrant Grey-headed Gulls in Africa Has over 90,000 Grey headed Gulls, other birds include Great cormorants, Long tailed cormorants, little egrets, egyptian geese. A site for global biodiversity significance and an Important Bird Area as described by BirdLife International.
