Naturally, there are faster ways to traverse the Alps but none are more beautiful. Climbing with ease to 2,033 metres, to the highest point of the track the Oberalp Pass the train winds its way past idyllic mountain villages and rugged rock faces, offering an unrestricted view of the deep gorges, remote valleys, glaciers and the Rhine Gorge, Switzerland s very own Grand Canyon. The spiral turns in the middle of the valley and helical tunnels leave many a rail passenger on the Albula Line disoriented. While the large panoramic windows ensure an unrestricted view of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites on the "Swiss Alps Jungfrau- Aletsch" and "Rhaetian Railway Albula / Bernina" tracks, too. A special highlight is also served up by the on-board kitchen. The three-course lunch menu is freshly prepared in the galley and conveniently served to your seat. Welcome aboard Travel Guide Every passenger will receive a brochure containing useful and interesting information on the surrounding area and route of the Glacier Express. The Travel Guide is available in several languages (German / English / French / Italian / Chinese / Japanese) and is included in the supplement. Route information via earphones All-important information will be provided via headphones along the route in German, French, English, Italian, Chinese and Japanese as well as two music channels. The headphones for the train s information system are included in the supplement. Certificate Guests who travel along the entire route from St. Moritz / Davos Zermatt or vice versa will receive a certificate in German/ English / French / Italian / Czech / Polish and in Japanese / Chinese / Korean / Thai / English. Please order the required number of certificates no later than ten working days prior to departure and give the names of the group members. The certificates will be sent to you by post. In the Glacier Express trains 900, 901, 902, 903, 904 and 905, lunch is served directly to your seat. Look forward to all kinds of culinary delights, freshly prepared in the galley kitchen. Group reservations must be made no later than ten days prior to departure. Lunch reservations can be made when booking your seats. Individual reservations can be made up until the day before. We highly recommend booking early. Menu The menu consists of salad (summer) or soup (winter) and meat with garnish and vegetables, plus dessert or a selection of cheeses. 9 Gornergrat Line Best view to the Matterhorn Visitors wishing to get to know the nicer side of the Alps will soon appreciate what makes Gornergrat special: it has no road access. With its sunny observation platform open all the year round, Gornergrat is a top excursion destination and not just because of its high altitude. Surrounded by no fewer than twenty-nine Viertausender (mountains of at least four thousand metres in height), including the tallest peak in Switzerland and the second-longest glacier in the Alps, this location offers spectacular panoramic views like no other, plus convenient access to the Matterhorn Mountain Railway. This line, which is Europe s highest-altitude, open-air rack railway, departs from the famous spa town of Zermatt in Switzerland s Wallis region, from where it makes the 9,339-metre-long trip to Gornergrat. The ride takes you over impressive bridges and through deep cuttings and tunnels, and offers views of idyllic forests and Alpine meadows, interspersed with rocky gorges and mountain lakes. The majestic presence of the mighty Matterhorn looms in the background throughout the journey.
