From New Haven, Connecticut, we headed south on I-95 to Atlantic City, New Jersey.

1 NEW JERSEY From New Haven, Connecticut, we headed south on I-95 to Atlantic City, New Jersey. We crossed the double-decked suspension George Washington Bridge, which spanned the Hudson River between the borough of Manhattan in New York City and Fort Lee, New Jersey.

2 Our first view of the mighty Hudson River. We were greeted with a large DO/AC structure as we entered Atlantic City (AC). DO/AC ( Do Atlantic City ) is the logo of the city. The slogan Do AC was created in April, 2012 by the marketing organization Atlantic City Alliance to supplant the slogan Always Turned On, which had earlier replaced American s Favorite Playground.

4 The Trump Taj Mahal is a closed casino and hotel on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City, New Jersey, United States, owned by Trump Entertainment Resorts, a subsidiary of Icahn Enterprises. The casino was inaugurated by its then-owner Donald Trump in 1990, and was built at a total cost of nearly one billion dollars. Restaurants at the Taj include Dynasty, Il Mulino New York, Moon at Dynasty, Robert's Steakhouse, and Hard Rock Cafe. It was also the home of Scores, the country's first in-casino strip club. The Taj Mahal came to the brink of closure in 2014 as its parent company went through bankruptcy, but ultimately remained open under the new ownership of Icahn Enterprises. On August 3, 2016, it was announced that the Trump Taj Mahal would close after Labor Day. It closed at 5:59 AM on October 10, We were there to witness the end of an era - Oh, how the mighty have fallen (2 Samuel 1:25).

5 We were also there to witness workers at the Trump Taj Mahal on strike. Their jobs were gone, and so were their benefits. The big question is: Will the Taj Mahal lose its Trump name and be restructured as more casinos in Atlantic City close their doors because of the competition from casinos in other surrounding states? Or will the casino be laid to rest as a mausoleum (tomb) to resemble the real Taj Mahal in India? Back side of the Trump Taj Mahal. Workers on strike.

6 Most restaurants, boutiques, and entertainment venues are on the Boardwalk, a five-and-a-half-mile long, 60-foot-wide seafront promenade. The Boardwalk was built in Exhibit of a covered wagon at the Wild Wild West Casino (at Bally s).

7 Posing at Caesar s Atlantic City casino. On Sunday, instead of going to the casinos, I walked across the street from our Howard Johnson hotel to visit the St. Nicolas of Tolentine Church. The Rev. Dr. John T. Sheehan was an Augustinian friar who served many years at the church.

8 The inside of the historic church was ornate and a sight to behold, and a place of spiritual edification for the soul. The music from the Moller pipe organ was also thrilling to hear. (St. Nicholas of Tolentine Mass) Beautiful stained-glass windows, artistic representations of the life of Jesus.

9 The original main altar, of delicately carved white Carrara marble, radiates like a heavenly vision. The tallest altar spire rises above the central tabernacle; the bas-reliefs under the altar's lace-like Gothic spires and peaks show Christ's burial and his triumphant resurrection.
