Fallen Soldiers; D-DAY 70 th Anniversary Itinerary June 2 nd 12 th, 2014 In 2014, all eyes will be on the D-Day landings and the sites of the Battle of Normandy. The 70th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy will be commemorated by many Allied Heads of State and hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world from June through till the end of August. Free time Dinner at the hotel or in surrounding area and overnight stay; NH Museum Quarter Hotel Day 2, Wednesday June 4 th, 2014 Meet your guide at the hotel for your transfer to Bruges. Arrival at the hotel in Bruges and enjoy lunch. Bruges: a city made up of romantic canals, medieval buildings and many churches and cathedrals. You will visit the marvelous market square, city hall, the belfry and its halls. The city center is car free, so most of this tour will be done on foot. Brewery De Halve Maan : The ancient tradition of the brewery Bruges has been preserved in a museum. Your guide will teach you everything about malt and hops and you will enjoy a tasting. 2 Day 3, Thursday June 5 th, 2014 Meet your guide at the hotel for your departure to Vimy, France. Today you will visit the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. This is a memorial site in France dedicated to the memory of Canadian Expeditionary Force members killed during the First World War. It also serves as the place of commemoration for First World War Canadian soldiers killed or presumed dead in France who have no known grave. The monument is the centerpiece of a 100-hectare (250-acre) preserved battlefield park that encompasses a portion of the grounds over which the Canadian Corps made their assault during the Battle of Vimy Ridge; a military engagement fought as part of the Battle of Arras. Honfleur: a commune in the Calvados department in northwestern France. Its inhabitants are called Honfleurais. It is especially known for its old, beautiful picturesque port, characterized by its houses with slate-covered frontages, painted many times by artists. The Sainte-Catherine church, which has a bell tower separate from the principal building, is the largest church made out of wood in France. Free time for lunch on your own Beny-Sur-Mer: Visit the Mont Canisy Battery. In 1942, the battery was included in the Atlantic Wall as an important link for the defense of the bay of the Seine and Le Havre. The complex was provided with a 250 meter tunnel system that connected the 25 spaces with each other. As defense for the complex, tobruks were built for machine guns and mortars. Dinner at the hotel and overnight stay; Les Gens De Mer Hotel Day 4, Friday June 6 th, th DDAY Anniversary Meet your guide and depart for Bayeux. Visit the Museum of the Battle of Normandy: This museum retraces the military and human story of the Battle of Normandy, which was to last from the 7th of June to the 29 th of August It recently installed scenography; which offers an insight into purely historical facts, alternating with themed features, 25 minutes of film archives and a 2,000m2 display including original equipment and uniforms. Free time for lunch on your own.

3 Day 4, Thursday June 6 th, 2014 (continued) Arromanches-les-Bains: a commune in the Calvados department in the Basse-Normandie region in north-western France. It is located on the coast in the heart of the area where the Normandy landings took place on D-Day, on 6 June Visit the D-day Museum: The D-day Museum overlooks the very spot where one of the Mulberry Harbors was constructed and where its remains can still be seen today, just a few hundred meters from the shore. Courseulles sur Mer: Visit Juno or Juno Beach, which was one of five sectors of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944, during the Second World War. The sector spanned from Courseulles-sur -Mer, a village just east of the British Gold sector, to Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, just west of the British Sword sector. The Juno landings were judged necessary to provide flanking support to the British drive on Caen from Sword, as well as to capture the German airfield at Carpiquet west of Caen. Visit the Pegasus Memorial: dedicated to the men of 6th Airborne Division and their role during the Battle of Normandy from June to September Continue to Juno Beach where the rest of the day is at your leisure. Dinner and overnight stay; Les Gens De Mer Hotel Day 6, Sunday June 8 th, 2014 Meet your guide and depart for Courseilles-sur-Mer. Visit the Juno Beach Centre: The Juno Beach Centre is a museum and cultural centre, which opened at Courseulles-sur-Mer, France on June 6th The Centre presents the war effort made by all Canadians, civilian and military alike, both at home and on the various fronts during the Second World War, as well as the manifold faces of contemporary Canadian society. 4 Day 7, Monday June 9 th, 2014 Meet your guide and depart for day tour in Maastricht: Visit of one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands which has been often destroyed in history because of its strategic location. Like most southern cities, Maastricht has lively pedestrian streets. Here, the brick houses give an impression of stability. You'll see the defense walls still intact south of the town. In Maastricht a visit of the Basilica of St. Servais (built around 1000) is a must do. Admire its rich treasury, consisting of a collection of liturgical objects, statues and paintings. Free time for lunch. Groesbeek: Visit the Liberation Museum, which elaborates on Operation Market Garden, the largest airborne operation in history which took place here in September 1944 and Operation Veritable, the Rhineland Offensive; the final road to freedom in Europe, started from here in February The museum brings the historical events of the liberation by the American, British, Canadian and Polish troops back to life. In the museum you will live through the period preceding the war, experience the occupation, celebrate the liberation and witness the rebuilding of the Netherlands and Europe after the war. Aromas, interactive presentations, dioramas, models, original films and sound fragments captivatingly depict the liberation. The museum shows both young and old the current value and importance of democracy, freedom and human rights. Continue on to Arnhem. Overnight stay; Holiday Inn Express Arnhem Day 8, Tuesday June 10 th, 2014 Meet your guide and depart for the Open Air Museum. Dutch Open Air Museum: People in the museum look like they just stepped out of the past. This museum catches history with old buildings, objects and true stories. The museum guides you on a time travel, before two centuries until recent times. The museum is very much alive, in the yards, in the farms and the wind mills, the farmer café and the shops. Airborne museum in Oosterbee: Experience the Battle of Arnhem in this modern and very appealing museum. The Airborne Experience allows you to follow in the footsteps of British parachutists as they make their way to Arnhem in September 1944 and to meet the cheering citizens who had been oppressed by the German occupiers for four long years. But the bridge at Arnhem was a `bridge too far. Lunch Departure on the Liberation route: This tour of 55 kilometers by car, guides you to all historical places around the battle of Arnhem and brings back the memories of the Strike of Arnhem. The strike of Arnhem in 1944 was part of Operation Market Garden. The allies wanted to conquer the bridges on the Maas, Waal and Rijn River as soon as possible, to liberate the rest of Europe. 5 Day 9, Wednesday June 11 th, 2014 Meet with your guide for a City Tour of Amsterdam: city of history, culture and inspiration. Guided orientation tour of Amsterdam by coach and on foot; the canals, the bridges, and the beautiful 17th and 18th century mansions along the canals. The Royal Palace on Dam square, the historic buildings along the Amstel River, the colorful flower market and many more exciting sights. Lunch Jewish Historical Museum: The Joods Historisch Museum opened its doors on February 24th, 1932 and was initially housed at the Waag (Weighing House) on Nieuwmarkt square. Following the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in World War II, the museum was forced to close and much of the collection was lost. The museum reopened its doors in In 1987, it moved to a new location, occupying four former synagogues on Jonas Daniël Meijerplein square, across the road from the Snoge or Portuguese Synagogue. Van Gogh Museum: At this famous museum, over 200 paintings and some 600 drawings by Vincent Van Gogh are exhibited. In the new section of the museum there are interesting temporary exhibitions. At the permanent collection, you have the chance to follow the development and the life of the artist. From the dark colored works at the beginning of his career until the bright violet tones of the last few years of his life. Anne Frank House: the old house where Anne Frank went into hiding and wrote her famous diary, which became a museum in 1960, is located within walking distance of Sandton Hotel Amsterdam. In the Anne Frank House, visitors will discover documents, letters and original objects that belonged to Anne Frank and others in hiding. Dinner Cruise: Canal cruise by boat, the best way to see Amsterdam. Holland s capital has 100 canals and 1000 bridges. While cruising through the old city you will see elegant merchant's mansions, carillon-topped churches and warehouses dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries.
