5 5 Useful Information A warm welcome to Les Roches Marbella! This booklet will guide you before your arrival on campus. It will provide you with information about the school and life on campus during the course and will answer some of the questions you may still have. So please read it carefully as it will assist you in preparing for your Summer Program at Les Roches Marbella. 6 6 Arrival Information AIRPORT PICK-UP SERVICE When you arrive in Spain on your official program arrival date, we will greet you in the arrivals hall of Malaga International Airport and will have transportation waiting to take you to our campus, provided you have confirmed your arrival details with us in advance. You will receive an with an emergency number for that day. All students must complete the arrival confirmation form you will have received by and return it duly completed to the Admissions Department by to at least 10 days prior your official arrival date. LOST LUGGAGE Should you lose your luggage, you should report this to the authorities within the airport immediately as per their standard procedure. You must provide them with the name, phone number and address of the school campus where you will be, so that they can deliver the luggage directly to you once it has been retrieved. Should you need assistance, our Admissions Department will be happy to assist you. ARRIVAL TO LES ROCHES CAMPUS By Car From Marbella town, please take the motorway 340, in the direction of Puerto Banús. After approximately 3km, you will find a mosque on your right hand side. Just after the mosque, take the road exit to the right, indicated Istán. The exit Les Roches Marbella is about 1.5 km from the main route, on your left hand side. You will pass through the arch Sierra Blanca, at the entrance of Las Lomas de Rio Verde urbanization. Once you traverse the arch, take the third exit (left) at the first roundabout. At the end of the road you will find us. From Malaga, you can also use the highway E-15, in direction to Puerto Banús. After the tunnel, take the exit nr. 176, indicated as Istan-Ma-427. At the first roundabout, take the road to your right, and also to the right on the second roundabout. After 1 km you will find, on your right hand side, the arch Sierra Blanca, at the entrance of Las Lomas de Rio Verde urbanization. Go under the arch and take the third exit (left) at the first roundabout. You will find us at the end of the road.

7 7 Arrival information From Malaga Airport (outside of official arrival dates) You can arrive either by taxi or bus. Please follow the instructions below: Taxi service from Malaga Airport directly to Les Roches Marbella: Cost - Approx. 85 euros Duration - Approx. 45 Minutes Note The taxi may charge you a small fee for your luggage. Most taxis do not accept credit card payments We suggest you request the price before you start the journey Direct Bus from Malaga Airport to the Marbella Central Bus Station Location - You can find the bus stop just outside of the Arrivals Hall (Terminal 2). Once you arrive at Marbella Bus Station, take a taxi to Les Roches Marbella Campus. Cost - Approx Euros (Bus) and approx. 10 Euros (taxi from Marbella Bus Station to Les Roches Marbella Campus) Duration - Approx minutes For updated information on bus timetables go to

9 9 Essential items to pack Located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, Les Roches Marbella benefits from an exceptional Mediterranean climate. Winters are very mild, with temperatures that range between 10 and 25ºC. Summers are hot, but softened by the sea breeze. The temperature will vary between 25 to 35ºC. During the Summer Season temperatures can reach up to 40ºC; therefore it is a good idea to bring lightweight, comfortable and airy clothing. We advise that you bring the following: þþ þþ þþ þþ þþ þþ þþ þþ þþ þþ Passport, 2 Passport copies, credit card, Travel Insurance. Alarm Clock Laptop, MP3/ IPod Hair dryer (220v) Camera Sunglasses Beach towel + sun cream Sports clothes, swimming suit and sport shoes Toiletries Lightweight, comfortable and airy clothing LAUNDRY A laundry room, equipped with washing machines and dryers is available in the basement of the Residence area and open 24 hours. It is free of charge. Please do not hang clothes and towels out of the windows or on balconies.

10 Summer program dress code UNIFORM - THEORY CLASSES The school does not provide a uniform for the summer program students; however, it is compulsory to dress professionally. Students must bring business attire following the criteria below: Ladies Plain black classic trouser or skirt White shirt (long or short sleeves) Comfortable black shoes (no flip flops) Jackets and blazers are not compulsory Gentlemen Plain black classic trouser White shirt (long or short sleeves) Comfortable black shoes (no flip flops) Professional neck tie The uniform is to be worn during daytime (08:00 to hours) from Monday to Friday, in all areas of the school and during breakfast and lunch from Monday to Friday. Smart Casual attire is requested for dinners. LEISURE TIME During weekend meals and leisure activities casual clothes are allowed (jeans, t-shirts, etc.). Swimming suits, shorts, etc. are not allowed. We recommend you to bring lightweight, comfortable and airy clothing to wear during leisure time. UNIFORM

14 14 Spain overview Spain, the second largest country in Europe, is a country that possesses a magnificent mix of art, culture and architecture. Beautiful cities show an extreme diversity of culture, language, climate and customs. Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Seville and Malaga, are just a few of the most popular cities, boasting some of the world s finest museums, monuments, majestic castles and palaces. Spain is all about hospitality and we openly welcome millions of people from all over the world each year to enjoy our special way of life. The country has been a full member of the European Union since 1986, hosted the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and the World Expo in Seville (1992) and Zaragoza (2008). With a population of 47 million people and a closely knit family-oriented society, Spain is a very safe country in which to visit and live. Spanning its borders you can discover breathtaking beaches, vast plains, natural forests, deserts, and majestic mountain ranges (Spain is the second most mountainous country next to Switzerland). In the Southern extreme of the country, facing Africa is located one of its most popular and well known regions: Andalusia. Comprised of 8 provinces and a total of 8.4 million inhabitants, Andalusia is one of Spain s most important tourist destinations and a cultural melting pot that has been coveted by cultures dating back to prehistoric times. Today, Andalusia is a modern region with a well developed infrastructure. While moving forward with the times, the region is also careful to conserve its roots by maintaining its important cultural heritage and monuments, together with its spectacular biodiversity. Within this area and located in the heart of the Costa del Sol, Marbella is one of the world s leading tourist destinations. Its Mediterranean gastronomy, cosmopolitan environment, mild weather, glamour and safety make it a truly unique location to study. Culturally, Spain is renown for its amazing gastronomical diversity, wine producing regions, and open air festivals.

15 15 Marbella Marbella has the largest concentration of four and five star hotels on the Costa del Sol as well as the largest concentration of golf courses in Europe. Its enviable mild micro-climate allows for year round tourism. Marbella offers its residents and visitors a perfect blend between nature, adventure, sports, culture and leisure. As well as endless amenities and attractions, the Andalusian region is full of tradition, historical monuments and culture spanning the ages. Surrounded by the sun, sea, beaches and mountains, students will enjoy the superb environment around Marbella and the region of Andalusia. Students will be spoiled for choice for what to do in their free time. Marbella is just forty-five minutes from Malaga s international Airport and fifty-five minutes from Malaga s train station. In less than an hour s flight you can be in Madrid or Barcelona and if you are interested in traveling abroad, in less than two hours flying time you can be almost anywhere in eastern Europe. Also, in only forty-five minutes by ferry you can be in Tangier, giving you access to the rest of Morocco.

16 Practical information LANGUAGES The four national languages of Spain are Spanish, Catalan, Galician and Basque. However, only Spanish is used widely throughout Spain. Summers are hot, but softened by the sea breeze. The temperature will vary between 25 to 35ºC. TIME ZONE Spain operates on Central European Time (CET), which is GMT+1. GOVERNMENT Spain is a constitutional monarchy, with a hereditary monarch and a bicameral parliament, the Cortes Generales. The executive branch consists of a Council of Ministers of Spain presided over by the Prime Minister, nominated and appointed by the monarch and confirmed by the Congress of Deputies following legislative elections. RELIGION Freedom of worship is practiced in Spain. Of the population, 73 percent adhere to Roman Catholicism, with the remaining belonging to other faiths. CURRENCY The monetary unit of Spain is the Euro (EUR), which is divided into 100 cents. While you are in Spain, currency can be easily converted at local banks, airports, railway stations and hotels. POPULATION Spain has a population of around 47 million inhabitants.

19 19 Rules on Campus INSURANCE, ILLNESS AND ACCIDENTS In case you fall ill during the program we can assist you with making a doctors appointment if necessary. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct health and accident insurance to cover any medical costs during the summer program should the need arise. STUDENT IDENTITY CARD Upon check-in, you will receive your Student Identity Card. Your student card gives you access to your accommodation when living on campus and to restaurants for the reserved meal plan. Please note that you can also use this card with the school s cashless system to pay for on campus services. Please carry this card with you at all times. CAMPUS WELL-BEING In the interest of the health of all students, Les Roches Marbella is a non-smoking campus with only certain areas outside set aside for smokers. We have a strict no-drugs rule, as well as non alcohol philosophy for minors with the aim to keep the students in good physical and mental well being and focused on their studies. DIETARY RESTRICTIONS If you cannot eat certain foods for medical or religious reasons, please inform the school during registration. MONEY AND VALUABLES Personal and private insurance, to cover issues such as damage or theft of personal property are not mandatory but are strongly recommended. The school accepts no liability for valuables left in your bedroom, public areas or in any storage places. We encourage you to put your valuables in the individual safety deposit boxes in your room. You are strongly recommended not to keep large amounts of money in your bedrooms. You should keep your bags in a safe place outside class hours.

20 20 Rules on campus ROOM REGULATIONS You are not allowed to cook in your rooms or to light candles. Tea and coffee making appliances (kettle) are allowed. No pets or animals are allowed on campus, nor do we tolerate weapons of any kind. Please note that if you fail to follow the accommodation standards, you may be asked to leave campus accommodation. Please refer to the standards of excellence in the academic catalogue for future details. ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES In Spain, the sockets require volts. You might need a transformer and/or an adapter to use your electric appliances. You can purchase them in any shop selling electric appliances. As a good safety practice, you must ensure that all radios, lights and other electrical appliances are switched off before leaving your room. Rooms are not meant or equipped for cooking therefore, for safety reasons; please remember that cooking is not permitted in the rooms. SECURITY The school s staff are supported by security staff company once the reception is closed. Both are there to ensure your safety. CURFEW POLICY ON CAMPUS Students staying on campus attending the summer program under the age of 18, must sign in for curfew every night. The Summer Program curfew is from 11 pm until 7 am. GENERAL BEHAVIOR Students agree: To fully respect the rules and policies established by the School and to understand and respect all cultural differences. To attend all classes punctually as required by Les Roches Marbella. To assume full responsibility for visitor s actions and assure that no visitors are allowed in the residence area. To attend activities once having committed him/herself. To respect Les Roches Marbella regulations governing alcohol consumption, strictly no drug or alcohol (for underage) on or off campus permitted., according to the Spanish law.
