5 FESTIVALS Evenings on Campus Now in its 19th year, Evenings on Campus returns to the Msida Campus. This year s edition is packed with all the usual items Evenings on Campus enthusiasts have come to look forward to: film, music, dance, visual, arts etc. ICT Engineering Courtyard (cp2) 1 August, 9pm. Tickets 5 Film:- Colour Purple (Director: Steven Spielberg) (16) The Colour Purple is a 1985 American period drama. Filmed in Anson and Union counties in North Carolina, the film tells the story of a young African American girl named Celie and shows the problems African American women faced during the early 1900s, including poverty, racism, and sexism. ICT Engineering Courtyard (cp2) 3 August, 9pm. Tickets 5 Film:- Last King of Scotland (Director: Kevin Macdonald) (16) The Last King of Scotland tells the fictional story of Dr Nicholas Garrigan, a young Scottish doctor who travels to Uganda and becomes the personal physician to the dictator. The film is based on factual events of Amin s rule Atriju Vassalli 4 August, 9pm. Tickets 8 Music, Dance, Projections:- Rhythms of Vision Rhythms of Vision is an interdisciplinary performance combining contemporary dance and live music to a backdrop of photographic projections. The performance is divided in four sections each portraying a specific texture from the Maltese landscape: Rubble walls, Sea, Bark and Sunsets. ICT Engineering Courtyard (cp2) 5 August, 9pm. Tickets 5 Film:- Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (Director: Clint Eastwood) (16) This panoramic tale of Savannah s eccentricities focuses on a murder and the subsequent trial of Jim Williams: self-made millionaire, art collector, antiques dealer, bon vivant and semi-closeted homosexual. John Kelso, a magazine reporter, finds himself in Savannah amid the beautiful architecture and odd doings to write a feature on one of William s famous Christmas parties. He is intrigued by Williams from the start, but his curiosity is piqued when he meets Jim s violent, young and sexy lover, Billy Hanson. Later that night, Billy is dead, and Kelso stays on to cover the murder trial. Tespi (Greek Theatre on the Ring Road) 6 & 7 August, 9pm. Tickets 8 Play by Seamus Heaney (Sophocles' Antigone):-The Burial at Thebes The sun rises over Thebes. Polyneices and Eteocles, two brothers leading opposite sides in the civil war, have killed one another in battle. Creon, the new King, has declared that Eteocles will be honoured and Polyneices disgraced: the rebel brother's body will not be given holy rites, and will lie unburied to become the food of carrion birds. Any who dare to oppose this edict and bury Polyneices will be punished by death. ICT Engineering Courtyard (cp2) 8 August, 9pm. Tickets 5 Film:- Rabbit-Proof Fence (Director: Philip Noyce) (U) The film features Kenneth Branagh, Everlyn Sampi and David Gulpill. It is based on a true story concerning the author s mother, as well as two other mixed-race Aboriginal girls, who ran away from the Moore River Native Settlement, north of Perth, to return to their Aboriginal families, after having been placed there in The film follows the girls as they walk for nine weeks along 1,500 miles (2,400k) of the Australian rabbit-proof fence to return to their community at Jigalong, while being pursued by a white authority figure and an Aboriginal tracker. Free admission v 81, 82 Delicata Wine Festival Malta s greatest wine event is the Delicata Classic Wine Festival. As is the case every year, this not to be missed event will inaugurate the beginning of the Maltese wine harvest with a spectacular event that is guaranteed to keep wine drinkers of all ages happy for weeks to come. There will be a wide range of quality wines from a number of Malta grown grapes such as Syrah, Chardonnay, Grenache, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and of course the two unique indigenous Maltese grapes Girgentina and Gellewza. Live entertainment will also be performed each night by some of Malta's leading artists. A few weeks later, the festival will move to the viticultural heart of Gozo, Nadur, where the wine festival will take place at the Nadur promenade overlooking breathtaking views of Comino and Malta. All-in-all, it's an event where artists from every aspect of the local music scene reunite and challenge each other for that particular Sole Music Festival award. To make the festival even more exciting, for every edition, an international artist is invited. To name a few, in previous editions, big names such as Andre & Marvin prezioso, Linda lee Hopkins (singer of bob Sinclair) Steve Edwards (the man behind summer hit 2006 the world hold on) Dani Deejay, Alcazar, T.A.T and Ross Paterson, were part of this one-of-a-kind event! Gozo 21 August % dynamicpromotions@onvol.net CULTURE The Malta Experience The Malta Experience is the only audio-visual show that encompasses 7,000 years of Malta's colourful and intriguing history. In the space of 45 minutes, visitors are taken on a journey through time, to discover the first settlers to the island, the great seafaring Phoenicians, the Roman Occupation, the Knights of St. John, the horrors of the Great Siege and the Second World War and much more. The show uses the latest in projection technology, and is available in one of 16 languages. After the show one can browse in the souvenir shop, which offers an extensive range of Maltese artifacts, or enjoy a light snack from the Cafeteria, which overlooks the magnificent Grand Harbour. EXHIBITIONS Valletta Living History Valetta Living History is a 35 minute audiovisual show depicting the history, culture and lifestyle of Malta and the Maltese.

Tourism Authority. It is the only show of its type in Valletta to have received such recognition.

16 EXHIBITIONS Valletta Living History Valetta Living History is a 35 minute audiovisual show depicting the history, culture and lifestyle of Malta and the Maltese. Produced and screened in High Definition, the show has in a short period (opened in June 2010) received recognition for its quality, and has recently been awarded a Quality Assured seal by the Malta Tourism Authority. It is the only show of its type in Valletta to have received such recognition. The footage and original filming that compiles this docudrama not only make it interesting for tourists, but also instills a sense of pride in us Maltese, thus making it a true historical encounter. It is the scene of Malta s year-round nightlife and offers leisure, entertainment and dining to suit all tastes. There is plenty to choose from: Paceville has the latest in club DJ music, as well as piano bars, an elegant casino and superb restaurants. The casino is in Villa Dragonara, once the private home of a 19th century Maltese aristocrat. St. Julian s St Julian s is now an extension of Sliema although it started life as a small fishing port based on Spinola and Balluta Bays. Like Sliema, it is now a major residential and tourist centre, and home to some of Malta s newest hotels. St Julian s merges with Paceville, Malta s main nightlife centre where there are clubs, casinos and numerous restaurants, cafes and bars. Picturesque Spinola Bay is still used by fishermen whose traditional boats are housed just below the restaurants. The bay is particularly attractive at night and as a venue for open-air dining. Casino Everyone has to have an evening s flutter once in a while. And there is no better time than on holiday. Malta has several excellent casinos. Choose from an elegant colonial-style villa, an ultra modern hotel complex, or a restored 17th century, harbour-side palace. All provide great entertainment whether you re new to the tables or have tried your luck before. Valletta Waterfront The Valletta Waterfront, in Floriana, is Grand Master Pinto's baroque Wharf built in the 18th Century. It has been thoroughly renovated into an entertainment area. It is currently being used as a popular venue with a concentration of upmarket bars and restaurants after a recent thorough restoration process. International names such as Hard Rock Cafe operate in the area.
