1 Great American Cities & Art Centers A Voyage from Boston to Washington, D.C. Aboard the 130-Guest Yorktown starting at $3,995 May 4 14, 2014
2 Dear Members and Friends, New England and the Mid-Atlantic states are home to America s most treasured cultural landmarks. Our spring voyage cruises along the storied waterways of the East Coast to destinations that boast a wealth of these attractions all at one of the best times of year when the weather is pleasant, and natural beauty returns to life. Our journey begins in Boston a city well known to us, and the cradle of American liberty, where we ll spend a fascinating morning visiting the world-class collections at the Museum of Fine Arts. Then ply the waters of the North Atlantic to call at the charming New England enclaves of Newport and Essex. Cruise into breathtaking New York Harbor, where the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island will greet our ship just as they have welcomed countless vessels for generations, and where the newly completed One World Trade Center stands resplendently at 1,776 feet. Call at Cape May, New Jersey, a Victorian-era resort town that remains well preserved from its 19 th -century heyday. Sail the mighty Delaware River to historic Philadelphia, where some streets appear virtually unchanged from when Benjamin Franklin walked there. Explore the Chesapeake Bay, home to bald eagles, blue crabs, and the occasional dolphin and manatee, to call at genteel Annapolis. Yorktown then sails the Potomac River to Washington, D.C., where we ll visit the Smithsonian American Art Museum and George Washington s estate at Mount Vernon. In addition to the larger group outings, we will plan some unique AASonly activities along the way. We selected the most befitting ship for this unique American voyage the Yorktown, which was built in the United States for cruising its coastline, and which we sailed on last year during our Civil War tour. It accommodates 130 guests in 65 exterior cabins and features a large sun deck, comfortable lounge, and spacious dining room offering guests the finest small-ship experience. Our visits to cultural sites will be enhanced with onboard lectures and informal discussions with Lenore Miller, Curator of the George Washington University s Permanent Collection, who has curated hundreds of exhibitions and writes for various art publications. Ms. Miller will enlighten and entertain by sharing her extensive knowledge of art, specifically the art of the Mid-Atlantic region. Aboard Yorktown, you will sail in perfect comfort from one great city or charming small town to another, with plenty of leisure time at each destination to savor an art collection, tour a historical site, or make your own discoveries. Join us this spring on this exceptional voyage along America s richest waterways. Sincerely, Ellen S. Dunlap President P.S. Book by March 7, 2014 to receive $1,500 (per person) off the cruise and land rates.
3 Cruise, Learn, and Be Inspired On our voyages, guests are accompanied by renowned experts foremost in their respective fields who will enhance and enrich the journey through lectures and informal discussions onboard. Lenore Miller has been Curator of the George Washington University s Permanent Collection and Curator of The Dimock Gallery since the early 1970s. She has curated hundreds of exhibitions and coordinated many more. She documented the permanent collection of contemporary Washington area artists for KPMG Peat Marwick in Washington, D.C., and curated the first exhibition held at the National Building Museum on the metalwork of Samuel Yellin. She is associate professorial lecturer at the George Washington University in the Department of Fine Arts and Art History and a freelance writer for various art publications, which have included ARTnews, KOAN, Camerawork, New Art Examiner, Metalwork, Washington Review of the Arts, and Washington Print Club Quarterly.

7 The inviting Yorktown Lounge Most cabins feature a picture window Yorktown Yorktown is the perfect vessel for relaxed and convivial exploration of North America s great coastal waterways. Built in Florida in 1988 specifically for coastal cruising and certified by the U.S. Coast Guard, Yorktown flies the American flag and is staffed by friendly and experienced American officers and crew. With a draft of only 9 feet, Yorktown is able to maneuver in secluded waterways and visit small ports that are inaccessible to larger vessels. And Yorktown s American registry makes it possible to operate domestic itineraries unavailable to foreign-flag ships. The ship s cuisine, served in a dining room large enough to accommodate all guests at once, emphasizes American regional culinary traditions. Accommodating only 130 guests in 65 exterior cabins, Yorktown, while not a luxury vessel, enjoys an atmosphere of warm and relaxed informality that endears it to repeat and new guests alike. Life aboard Yorktown Life aboard Yorktown is relaxed and informal, and dress is always casual. Guests discover soon after settling in that the ship s design fosters a sense of community and shared enterprise. The cabins are extremely comfortable for their size and well designed to maximize the square footage. Most have large picture windows, and each is furnished with comfortable beds, a writing desk, ample storage, a clock/ radio/cd player, and a private bathroom. Your cabin is the perfect place for peace and quiet and for private rest and reflection. But you will want to spend most of your time in one of Yorktown s inviting common areas. The Lounge, never more than two decks away (Yorktown has no elevator), is the hub of shipboard activity the place to read, to converse with fellow travelers, to attend lectures and concerts, to enjoy a cocktail as the pianist performs on the ship s piano, or simply to take in unobstructed views of the passing scene. The Sun Deck affords similar opportunities to read and relax in the open air.
