9 A bit about Fireplace Doors Fireplaces, while first impressions lead people to think of warm and cozy thoughts, are in reality one of the least heat efficient items in a home. These are infrared pictures of a fireplace opening with and without a door installed. As you can see the temperature readout on the fireplaces with doors can be double that of those without. It is also helpful to note that fireplace doors are not intended to be closed during the fireplace operation. The main purpose behind doors is for heat efficiency while the fireplace is not in operation. 9

10 Door Styles We offer 3 major door styles, options can vary by the model of door but most doors offer all 3 options: CV1 (Cabinet) CV2 (Tracked) FS2 (Bi-Fold Swing) 10

11 CV1 Door Style CV1 Sometimes referred to as Cabinet Style the CV1 is a single pane of glass for each door, hinged only at the frame. Clean and contemporary but bear in mind the doors swing way out over the hearth. 11

12 CV2 Door Style CV2 Commonly known as Tracked Style, this door has a bi-fold hinge on each door but follows a track. Good for places where doors could get banged up easily against outer stone or other surround materials. A good example of a popular application is in the commercial building industry, such as hotels. 12

13 FS2 Door Style FS2 Also known as Bi-Fold Swing, this is the most common style of door sold in the market today. Nearly all the doors in our lineup offer an FS2 style available. The center hinge allows the door to swing and tuck flush against the surround off the frame. It also allows for easier cleaning of the inside portion of the glass as compared to the Tracked or CV2 style door. 13

14 Glass Options Glass Options Our Lifetime Warranty Tempered Glass comes in three optional tints, Clear, Bronze and Grey (aka Smoke). Bronze Glass is considered standard for all doors unless another choice is specified. Tinted glass helps to hide the unsightliness of a dirty fireplace when the doors are closed. 14

15 Channel Handles Channel Handles Thermo-Rite was the originator of the Clearview design. In order to hold the glass with minimal frame the Channel Handle was invented. The Channel is the metal extrusion on the top and bottom of each pane of glass that connects it to the hinges. The handle is, well, the handle. Nuf said. These components are generally offered in their own finish options allowing for a variety of combinations of Channel Handle finish to frame finish. 15

17 Powder Coat Finishes Sometimes referred to as our Heritage colors, the Thermo-Rite powder coat palette has 15 durable color options. The majority of powder coat finishes come now in textured finishes which reduce fingerprinting and the potential for scratching or marring. All Thermo-Rite doors come with a 5 year warranty on the frame to be free from any manufacturing defects. These durable coatings are no exception. 17

18 Know your Fireplace Fireplace doors can be divided into 4 major categories which nearly the entire line will fall under. Knowing the type of fireplace and the style of door the customer desires will lead you to narrow into one of these 4 sections, which you will find in the table of contents in both catalogs. Understanding this will help you focus on selections the customer likes and will work for their firebox. Let s explore these categories. 18

19 Custom vs. Standard 19

20 Standard Standard Doors tend to have wider frames that allow one size to fit a variety of opening dimensions. Using your measurements, find the correct door by finding where the dimensions fall on the chart for both the width and height of the fireplace opening. Standard doors are typically associated with a model number, as we see here on the left of the chart. 20

21 Custom Custom Doors require full measurements be taken of the fireplace and each door is uniquely drawn to fit that specific opening. As such, many custom doors offer thinner frames and larger glass. 21

23 Masonry vs. Zero Clearance 23

24 Masonry Masonry material has been a fireplace method for centuries. Anything that must be mortared together is considered masonry. Since they are built by hand, no two masonry fireplaces are exactly alike. While brick and ceramic are the most common materials used for the internal, or working, components of a masonry fireplace, the face material can also include stone, marble, granite, travertine and tile. 24

25 Zero Clearance Zero Clearance (or ZC) fireplaces are pre-manufactured metal fireboxes with coinciding metal flue pipe. Some are obvious to spot with metal louvers on the top and bottom. Other Clean Faced units require a bit more inspection. ZC fireboxes have a manufacturer and model number associated with each unit. Most have this information mounted somewhere near the front of the firebox and can be referenced to easily purchase doors. 25

30 Reserve The Reserve offers a smorgasbord of finish, door, glass and size options to satisfy the most discriminating taste and complement any design décor. Constructed from anodized, painted aluminum with 2-3/4 top and side panels and a 11/16 bottom panel, glass options include grey or clear standard glass; bronze, grey or clear beveled glass; or bronze mirrored glass. 32 Decor The Decor is an anodized aluminum enclosure with 2 3/4 top and side panels, and a 11/16 bottom panel. Capable of being powder coated, the Décor also offers inserts to completely change the look for a full customized feel. 33 Décor Inserts Here are some examples of the combinations possible with the Décor frame and inserts combination. Frames are typically black or brass anodized aluminum, but can be ordered with any of the powder coat finishes. The inserts come in a variety of unique finishes including, Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Satin Brass, Copper, Brushed Silver, Hammered Black and Hammered Polished. They may also be powder coated to make truly unique door. 33

34 Standard Zero Clearance Thermo-Rite has taken the hard work out of you, the dealers hands when it comes to ZC doors. We have compiled measurements of over 98% of the fireboxes produced for the last 35 years. You can order just from the model number in majority of cases. Don t have the model number or cant find it? No worries. We can take your custom measurements for these doors as well. We did it first, we do it best! 34

35 Z Decor Z-Decor is an anodized aluminum enclosure with a 3/4 wide frame. It is available as an inside fit only. Air space is allowed on the sides, top, bottom or combination to provide the same air flow as the manufacturer of the zero clearance fireplace. Key Points Same insert options as its masonry cousin, the Décor Optional channel handle matches for a completely customized look An example of the frame with Brushed Silver insert. 35

36 Z Décor Inserts The Z-Décor, much like its masonry cousin, is offered in a variety of insert finishes and back or brass for the frame. The powder coat finishes are also available for a truly unique look. The metal finish frame inserts are available in Polished Brass, Black, Brushed Silver and Satin Brass. Don t forget to specify the desired Channel Handle finishes if they differ from the frame color. 36

37 Z Door Thermo-Rite s stock Z-Doors are made as inside fits. We use Air Studs or an Air Draft Bar to elevate the frame so that it maintains the cooling air intakes located inside the firebox. In most applications, we allow an air space between the outside of the enclosure and the firebox opening. The Z-Door is a sleek, full-framed, tarnish free anodized aluminum enclosure. Use the Thermo-Rite Standard Zero Clearance order chart to figure out the correct model for your fireplace. We keep it simple for you. 37

39 Bar Stock Mesh No doors necessary. Sometimes doors are not desired but the need for protection remains. Enter Bar Stock Mesh, a simple rod assembly with an appealing front to hide all those ugly operational components. Add the lower bar to hide gaps in draping and a barrier for ash from the hearth. 39

40 Thin Line The best kept secret in the Thermo-Rite lineup. The Thin Line works on either masonry (inside fit only) or on any ZC fireplace! The Thin Line is an all welded steel frame. 41 Beauregard Soft and subtle, the Beauregard is a more subdued example of steel door styling. No harsh garish lines here, rather curved edges complimented by matching handles. Make no mistake, however, the Beauregard is built to stand the test of time and is one of 2 new styles in our Artisan Series, the pinnacle of Thermo-Rite s 75 years of industry leading experience. 42 Valencia Rivets and overlap joints give an industrial rustic feel to this new door in the Thermo-Rite lineup and is one of 2 new members to the Artisan Series. 44 Heritage The Thermo-Rite flagship. The Heritage is Thermo-Rite s first welded steel frame enclosure. The frame is made out of 1/4 x 2 1/2 on 1-3/4 steel plate. The doors feature Thermo-Rite s rugged self aligning hinges in CV2 or FS2 design. 45 Heritage Full Arch The Heritage Full Arch is a fully laser cut frame and fits arched openings only. The largest arch opening with flush doors offered on the market today. 46 Heritage Arch Plate The Heritage Arch Plate adds a faux arch look to any rectangular opening. It can also cover unsightly areas along the top of the fireplace opening. Be sure to take into account any obstructions, like keystones, when measuring. 47 Rectangular Heritage w/arch Doors Another one of our most popular doors, the Rectangular frame with Arch Doors will give any boring opening that added visual accent. Still truly flush mount doors and clear view glass ensure the viewing area is maximized every time. 48 Normandy Family The Normandy is designed to complement any home decor. This model is available in a wide range of color finishes and two handle styles. The Normandy is a classic style that will stand the test of time in any room setting. While nearly identical to its older brother pictured up top, the Normandy Bi-Fold adds the hinged full swing our customers have come to know the Thermo-Rite name for. Note that the frame around the glass is slightly thicker than the original Normandy. 48

49 Normandy Family cont. Normandy Deluxe adds a faux arch look for not a lot of dough. Same frame as the original Normandy but with a splash of personality. This has been one of the most popular choices in the Normandy family The Normandy Contemporary adds that mission look to the front of the doors. Should your customer desire, we can also add a fourth bar along the bottom for 360 degree accent coverage. One of the newer doors to the family. 49

50 Normandy Family cont. Normandy Clear-View and Clear-View Bi-Fold. These doors allow you to see the full fire unimpeded by accent panels and the center bar frame around the glass. Please note that the glass frame is a little wider than that of the Normandy original. The Normandy Supreme is the newest addition to the family. Offering the arch of the deluxe with a bi-fold door, we think this door is an instant classic in our lineup. This door is for the accent lover extraordinaire! It has it all. 50

51 Normandy Two Tone Add some pizzazz to your Normandy with a 2 tone finish. Below are some suggestions of finish combinations. 51

52 Normandy Spark Guard The Spark Guard is a fantastic add-on sale for customers who are purchasing gas logs with a remote. We replaced the glass with all mesh, allowing the full operation of the logs without having to get up to open the doors. Perfect protection for children and animals from the dangers that come with gas and wood burning fireplaces. All non bi-fold Normandy doors can be a spark guard version at no extra charge. Be sure to ask every customer you sell a remote controlled log set to. You just may let a sale escape otherwise. 52

53 Normandy Eco-Tite Thermo-Rite is proud to introduce the only gasketed door on the market with a hidden locking system. The top right handle is set into the locking position by sliding over to release the completely internalized lock mechanism. The Eco-Tite uses high grade stove gasket material for a near perfect seal. Thermo-Rite is also the only gasketed door manufacturer with a lifetime warranty on the glass. 54 Cameo The Cameo, one of Thermo-Rite s Track & Glass In Frame style enclosures, has a 7/8 plain mitered frame and a 3/8 mitered inner frame return providing a sleek Bi-Level look. The Cameo is ideal for a custom look and fit on any fireplace. A true Thermo-Rite classic. Key points Thin frame for maximum viewing area Inner and Outer frames can be tailored to your desired finishes 54

55 Laser The best bang-for-buck value in the lineup. Thin frame, very little overlap all for under 1K. You can t find as large a viewing area in a custom door for that price from anyone. The Laser provides a 1 3/4 wide bar stock look at a fraction of the cost. The 1 3/4 wide anodized aluminum frame protrudes 3/8 out from the face of the fireplace. The frame overlaps the opening 3/4 on each side and the top. The frame overlap includes the inside fit clearance tolerances. 55

56 Phantom Introducing the Phantom, a high quality custom look in a medium price range with multiple color options. It has Phantom 1/4 sides that are very thin and in some cases invisible. 57 Outdoor Patio Door The Outdoor Patio door is a Normandy frame with a central hidden locking mechanism. With outdoor great rooms becoming more and more popular, this door was specifically designed for outdoor fireplaces. Locks keep the wind from blowing the doors open and potentially damaging the door, fireplace or even gas logs. It also keep gas log media from blowing around. All internals on this door are stainless steel or aluminum so nothing on this door can rust. 57

58 Corner Units Not as common, but they re out there. Custom masonry corner units are available for 2-sided or 3-sided fireplace openings in selected Thermo-Rite enclosure models. 60 Special Z Our most popular ZC Door, the Special Z offers a classic look at an affordable price. The unit is designed from anodized aluminum and features bifold full swing trackless doors. Available only as an inside fit, the unit incorporates a 7/8 wide frame. Air space is allowed from the top, sides or bottom providing the same air flow as the zero clearance fireplace. 70 Complete Reface Same idea as the DV Reface, the complete reface brings the glass doors into the picture. Older wood burners that are tired and nasty looking can be fixed right up, even if the original hardware is missing! This has been an ever-growing option for home owners. 72 Mesh Curtain Replacements If a customer has mesh curtains they will need replaced one day Yeah, we got that. Measure the height of the curtain and rings to determine size. All curtains come 24 wide each, unless otherwise specified. 72

A mesh rod assembly comes with all of the necessary components to add mesh curtain pulls to just about any application. Note: Alternative mounting hardware options are available for this product. Since we order custom glass for your doors there is no reason to look anywhere else for your Custom Cut Tempered Glass needs. Glass can be a replacement but is often used in projects like shelving. 75 Suspension Bar & Install-Rite A must for picture frame installations with most of our doors. The suspension bar takes the weight of the door off of the mounting brackets and gives the door a sturdy invisible seat to carry the weight. The Install-Rite allows for easier back-mortaring in rough stone fireplace scenarios. Works on Regal, Prism, Classic, Cameo, Décor and Reserve. 75
