2 About Blue Hills Summer Camp Our unique location atop scenic Chickatawbut Hill invites campers to discover nature through hands-on exploration, creative play, and active learning. Each session features an age-appropriate theme intended to deepen a child s understanding and awareness of the natural world. Small camp groups and experienced, caring staff create a friendly and safe atmosphere on The Hill. Our Camp Staff Blue Hills Summer Camp staff are chosen for their enthusiasm, knowledge, and ability to interact with youth in an outdoor setting. This specialized team works to foster an emotionally and physically safe atmosphere for all campers. Each staff member is interviewed and undergoes a background check and extensive pre-camp training that includes first aid and CPR certification. 3 Preschool Peepers Ages Monday Friday, 8:45 11:45 am $170 members; $205 nonmembers Counselor-to-Camper Ratio: 1 to 5 NATURE TAILS June 25 29; July 16 20; August 6 10 Using storybooks to inspire our outdoor explorations, we will learn about tails, baby owls, and much more! Introduce your young child to camp at the Blue Hills! This three hour, half-day program includes stories, crafts, games, and short hikes in safe, small groups of only five campers. Please note: Peepers must be toilet trained (requiring no assistance). DIGGIN IN THE DIRT July 2 6; July 23 27; August Get down and dirty to discover all of the amazing things nature has to offer just below the ground! THINGS WITH WINGS July 9 13; July 30 August 3; August Many animals use wings to fly! Birds, insects even mammals. We will investigate the animals that are flying, gliding and soaring over Chickatawbut Hill. Chickadees Entering K Grade 1 $310 members; $375 nonmembers Counselor-to-Camper Ratio: 1 to 5 UNDER A MAGNIFYING GLASS June 25 29; July 16 20; August 6 10 Bug hunts, 100 inch hikes, and magnifying glasses will fill our days as we examine the little creatures of the natural world. Experience the wonders of nature through hands-on exploration, games, stories, songs, crafts, and short hikes. Chickadees have opportunities for large and small group interactions, guided outdoor discovery, and imaginative play with friends. FLYING 101 July 2 6; July 23 27; August How does a dragonfly wing differ from a bird wing? Why can t humans fly? Each day we will explore a different flying animal. WILD WORLD OF WATER July 9 13; July 30 August 3; August Water is teeming with life and we are ready to investigate! From frogs to fish to water bugs in ponds, puddles and more we ll have fun learning about all of the critters that make their home in the water.

Campers will make friends, practice teamwork, and engage their critical-thinking skills. SECRETS OF THE WILD GONE BUGGY June 25 29; July 16 20; August 6 10 Use detective and observation skills to follow clues, answer riddles, and uncover a critter-caused mystery, while learning about animal adaptations and food webs. July 9 13; July 30 August 3; August Search through grass, dig in the soil, roll logs and look under leaves for the many insects and other arthropods around us. GEOLOGY ROCKS! Will it be windy or still? How do we know? Learn how to identify clouds, measure precipitation and predict the weather. SCIENTISTS IN THE FIELD* July 2 6; July 23 27; August Take a look at the different ways science affects our daily activities and test out some nature-based science experiments. Delve deep into natural science by investigating Blue Hills ecosystems. Create positive relationships through team building and explore science experiments.. Some sessions include an overnight, featuring a twilight hike, dinner, campfire, dorm accommodations, and breakfast. BLUE HILLS DETECTIVES July 9 13; July 30 August 3; August Dive into the action-packed natural world and investigate some thrilling mysteries. We will use animal tracks and other signs as our clues to solve cases.

We will participate in some ongoing scientific studies and construct some new scientific exploration. This session includes a Thursday overnight at Chickatawbut Hill. MASS AUDUBON EXPEDITIONS July 16 20; August 6 10 Blue Hills is only one of the many beautiful sites that make up Mass Audubon. This week we will travel to a few of Mass Audubon s other sanctuaries and nature centers, including an overnight at Mass Audubon s Camp Wildwood in Rindge New Hampshire. NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY July 23 27; August Nature is filled with beautiful images that we save in our minds every time we go outside. Now learn how to capture those images so you can take them home to share them with your friends and family. Counselors-in-Training Ages $100 application/training fee June 26 July 14; July 17 August 4; August 7 25 Develop leadership and teaching skills, and gain valuable experience as you assist counselors in leading camp activities. Please note: An application and a three-week commitment are required to participate. To request an application, please contact the Camp Director. Applications are due May 15; applicants will be notified of acceptance on a rolling basis with training beginning mid-june. Leadership and adventure combine for this challenging and interactive camp experience where campers learn team-building and outdoor skills. Some sessions include an overnight, featuring a twilight hike, dinner, campfire, dorm accommodations, and breakfast. The Blue Hills Reservation is the largest open space within 35 miles of Boston, encompassing over 7,000 acres. The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages this property for the public to enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, boating, and more. 6 Camp Registration Information To Register for Camp: Visit massaudubon.org/ bluehillscamp Call x5226 Mail or bring this form and payment to: Blue Hills Trailside Museum, 1904 Canton Avenue, Milton, MA Registration Confirmation A confirmation letter/ containing important documents and information will be sent once your camper s registration has been processed. Deposit A nonrefundable deposit is required to register for camp as follows: $50/ camper/session. The deposit will be applied to your camp tuition and cannot be transferred to another camper, family or camp location. If registering after May 15, payment in full is required (unless a payment plan has been established with the Camp Director). Refund Policy A full refund, minus the nonrefundable deposit, is provided to camp families who cancel in writing on or before May 15. After May 15 no refund is available. Deposits are not transferable, and refunds are not given for participant dismissal, failure to attend, absence or sick days. If we must cancel a session, you will receive a full refund. Membership and Discounts Mass Audubon members at the Family level or above receive a discounted rate. To qualify, your membership must be current through your camper s last session, and you must be the parent, grandparent, or legal guardian of the camper being enrolled. Membership can be purchased or renewed at the time of registration. Specific, need-to-know information re: residential, referral, and/or early bird discounts. Financial Aid Financial assistance is available based on demonstrated economic need and available funds, and is generally limited to one session per child; however, all applications are considered. Applications are due by X. Please call the Camp Director to request an application or download one at massaudubon.org/campforms. Payment Plans Payment plan options are available. Please contact the Camp Director for more information. Important Deadlines All camp forms, waivers, and the balance of your camp tuition are due by May 15. If registering after May 15, payment in full is required and a specific camp form deadline will be set for you. A camper cannot attend camp and his/her spot is not guaranteed until all forms, waivers, and payments are completed (or a payment plan has been established). Camper Requirements Due to the outdoor and exploratory nature of our camp program, campers must be able to move about on uneven terrain. Campers are expected to meaningfully participate in ageappropriate activities, including nature study. All campers must follow stated behavior expectations and safety rules. The camp director reserves the right to dismiss a camper when, in his/her judgement, the camper s behavior interferes with the rights of others or the smooth functioning of the group or activity, or violates the camp s behavior policy. In such cases no refunds will be provided. If you have any questions regarding your child s ability to participate in our camp program, please contact the Camp Director. Camp License Our camp complies with the regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (105 CMR 430) and is licensed by the Milton Board of Health. ACA Accreditation We are proud to be accredited by the American Camp Association. Developed exclusively for the camp industry, this nationally recognized program focuses on program quality, and health and safety, management, and camp operations. Camp Policy Requests You may request copies of our background check, healthcare, discipline, bullying, and grievance policies at any time. Session Transfers Sessions transfer requests will be honored if there is space available and if a request is made at least two weeks prior to the session start date, after which time transfers are not permitted. Buddy Requests One buddy request per camper will be honored when possible. Both campers must be the same age and both must request each other. All buddy requests must be made in writing at least one week prior to the first day of camp. Please indicate on your registration form if you would like your camper to be placed with a friend of the same age. My kids love Blue Hills Summer Camp! The staff is awesome.
