If your child is attending Adventure Club a BablerWiLD counselor will check the camper in and/or out of Adventure Club each morning and/or afternoon. Discipline: BablerWiLD s philosophy of discipline is based on respect for the camper and others. We advocate a positive guidance and discipline policy with an emphasis on positive reinforcement, redirection, prevention, and the development of self-discipline. Camp rules are established for safety purposes and for the purpose of creating a common standard of behavior. Our counselors are prepared to model and encourage this standard in our young campers. Corrective discipline is expected to be creative and caring in nature. Our counselor expectation is to prevent unacceptable behavior by providing positive alternatives before anything negative happens. If a child needs to be disciplined beyond redirection, the following steps will be taken: 1. Separation from whatever seems to be contributing to the problem; essentially a short time-out. 2. Short conference with the camp director, which may include a call to the parent. 3. Conference with parent and camp director. 4. Removal from the camp program. The following list of offenses may result in immediate suspension or removal from the camp programs: bullying, assault (attempting to cause injury to a person or threatening to, this includes verbal harassment, sexual harassment, fighting, and hitting), intentional damaging or defacing of property, false fire alarm, 911 call or bomb threat, intentional attempt to start an unsupervised fire and/or use or possession of any type of fireworks, explosives, ammunition, firearms, knives or other objects which could be used as dangerous weapons, stealing and willful insubordination. Illness: In case of illness (fever, vomiting, diarrhea), please keep your child at home and contact the camp phone (June/July) or Babler Outdoor Education Center so that we know not to expect him/her. We adhere to the Rockwood School District s policies regarding contagious illness; therefore, your child may not attend camp if he/she has a contagious or infectious illness. If your child becomes ill while at camp you will be contacted by a BablerWiLD staff member.
7 Injuries: All BablerWiLD staff are trained in First Aid, CPR and AED for adult and children or carry a higher training certificate such as lifeguard. Minor injuries will be treated by first aid trained camp staff. Examples are scratches, scrapes, insect bites, etc. Any serious injury or head injury will be reported to the parents immediately, so that appropriate action may be taken. If a major injury occurs, the staff will immediately call for professional help (EMS/911). Parents, designated emergency contacts, or the child s doctor will be notified immediately. If an emergency is such that immediate transportation to the hospital is necessary, a staff member will accompany the child and will have in their possession the emergency consent form signed by the parent. Parents or guardian will be notified to which hospital the child is being transported. Medications: BablerWiLD adheres to the Rockwood School District s medication policy. All medications must be given to a BablerWiLD staff person. Children are not to keep any medications, even cough drops, vitamins, or Tylenol in their possession. Please indicate on the health form all medicine that will accompany your camper to camp. Inclement Weather or Natural Disaster: Weather radios are located at both the Outdoor Education Center and the OEC Outpost. These are used to monitor the weather in the area and will alert us to any potential severe weather conditions. In the case of severe weather, campers and staff follow the established emergency procedures and take cover is the designated place immediately. Additional emergency plans will be followed if necessary. In case of fire, natural disaster or other emergencies campers and staff will follow the designated emergency procedures. Lunch and Snacks: Lunches will be catered by Rockwood Child Nutrition Services for the WiLD Outdoor Weeks only. Cell phones and pagers do not work except in sporadic areas of Babler State Park. (Staff communicate with the aid of walkie-talkies.) These items have a tendency to get lost or broken and we are sure that your camper will have more than enough to do without them. Drugs, alcohol, pets and weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited for any BablerWiLD program. Any animals that will be part of a program will be brought and handled by a designated instructor. Child Abuse: As caregivers of children and employees of the Rockwood School District, BablerWiLD staff are mandated reporters of any suspicion of child abuse. Camp Store: Camp Store is available to WiLD Outdoor Week campers only. Prior to the beginning of camp you will have the opportunity to deposit up to $10.00 in your camper s store account for each week they will attend. Each child will then have an opportunity to purchase one snack, one drink and one toy at the end of the camp day. You do not have to participate in this program. If you choose not to participate it will not affect your child s ability to have a snack. All campers receive a snack in the morning and campers who do not purchase a snack in the afternoon will be offered an alternative snack. Deposits to a WiLD Store account should occur before the start of the camp session. Please do not send cash with your child to camp. A staff member will return your call as soon as possible.
