8 WHAT TO EXPECT AT CAMP Each day at Camp Kroc is packed full of fun with things like morning games, ice-breakers, worship, camp songs and large and small group lessons. Activities vary each day and follow the week s theme to keep things fun and exciting. WHAT TO WEAR: Campers are required to wear socks & closed-toe shoes every day. Campers should wear weather-appropriate clothes in which they can play and get dirty. WHAT TO BRING: Bring a backpack/bag: Campers should bring their belongings in a backpack or bag. EVERYTHING should be labeled with the camper s name. Water bottle Sunscreen We recommend that you apply SPF 35 or higher before dropping your child off. In keeping with child safety standards, counselors are not permitted to apply sunscreen to campers. However, they can instruct and supervise campers during reapplication throughout the day. Swimsuit Campers swim five times per week, so please pack a swimsuit, sandals and towel on scheduled swim days. A plastic bag or swim bag is helpful to keep the camper s belongings together in the locker room. EVERYTHING should be labeled with the camper s name. WHAT NOT TO BRING: The items listed below are not welcome at the Camp Kroc. Should your camper bring any of these items, they will be confiscated and returned to the parent at sign-out. Please do not let your camper bring valuables! The Kroc Center is not responsible for lost or stolen possessions. 9 FOOD & TREATS LUNCH Nutritious lunches are prepared at the Kroc Center and provided to campers daily. A vegetarian option is available each day. Menus are available at the beginning of each week. Sack lunches will be provided on field trip days. SNACKS Morning and afternoon snacks are provided for campers every day. Feel free to send additional snacks if you feel your child needs them, but please do NOT send candy or sugary drinks. If your camper is a picky eater, has severe allergies or has very limiting dietary restrictions, they are welcome to bring a sack lunch from home (this will not reduce the price of camp). You may also contact us in advance and we may be able to prepare meals suitable for your child. FIELD TRIPS Each week of camp will include an off-site adventure to places like Millennium Park, John Ball Zoo, Grand Rapids Children s Museum, the movie theater, and other local attractions. Field trips are generally on Wednesdays or Thursdays, with campers aged 5 8 attending their field trip on Wednesdays, and campers aged 9 12 attending their field trip on Thursdays. Field trip information will be listed in the parent newsletter at the beginning of each week. CAMPER GROUPS Campers are grouped by age and specific activities are targeted towards their age group. Requests for campers to be in specific groups may not be able to be accommodated. BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS The Kroc Center Day Camp program strives to offer every child, regardless of ability, the opportunity to participate in recreational activities that are both fun & educational. Our counselors work to create a positive environment, free from discrimination or other factors that may prohibit campers from having an enjoyable experience at camp. Day Camp counselors are trained to utilize positive discipline techniques to promote growth & learning. Counselors and campers work together to create a group contract and outline the consequences for misbehavior. We deal with issues proactively, by informing campers of expectations and creating an environment that fosters safety, openness and respect. Bullying of any kind is not acceptable and will be addressed immediately. Our behavior correction process is a three step system: Step 1: Verbal warning, Step 2: Temporary suspension from activity and discussion with Day Camp Supervisor, Step 3: Parents will be notified. If campers do not follow the rules or repeatedly misbehave, we will contact parents and depending on the severity and frequency of the behavior, we may ask parents to remove the child from camp. Campers are expected to follow our five guidelines for behavior: RESPECT THE KROC RESPECT YOURSELF RESPECT OTHERS RESPECT AUTHORITY HAVE FUN!
