1 Most design only focuses on the physical. Does it shave seconds? Reduce drag? Yet, so much of endurance cycling is between the ears. A never-ending monologue of attrition vs. will. Which got us thinking: WHAT IF OUR DESIGNS FIT THE MIND AS SEAMLESSLY AS THEY FIT THE BODY?

2 PEARL IZUMI BIOVIZ IS NOT JUST ANOTHER HIGH-VIS THING 1. TRUE FLUORESCENT COLORS Fluorescents, like our iconic Screaming Yellow, actually convert invisible UV light into additional visible light. Typical colors reflect a maximum of 90% of light vs % for a fluorescent color. BIOMOTION Biomotion describes our brain s ability to recognize patterns of movement from limited information, especially when it s related to human movement. By placing high-quality reflective markers strategically, the points work together to identify you as a human on a bike faster. The motion created by these coordinated points is noticeably easier to see than garments completely covered with lower quality reflective elements, reflective thread or dots. SCREAMING YELLOW Evaluating a reflective garment with a camera flash is misleading, because it doesn t take distance, the riding position or the riding environment into account. Out on the open road many reflective solutions reveal themselves as gimmicks, providing very little reflective performance at half of our standard distance. 3. CONTRAST Our brains are wired to notice graphic patterns, so by breaking up high-visibility colors with blocks of contrasting colors we can catch a driver s eye even more effectively. No visibility standards existed for cycling, so we did some math. We set our visibility minimum standard at 100 meters, based on the fastest closing rate a driver would typically encounter a rider on the road, to allow ample time for evasive action.
