2 Attention Parents - Special Notices Please be at your morning bus stop on time and bear with us and please be patient...it may be late the first few days. If your child is going to be absent, late or you have any change in plans, PLEASE notify the Camp office as soon as possible by (campshalom@jewishmadison.org), telephone ( ) or send a note with your camper. REMEMBER to pack a nutritious lunch for your child. Please place lunches in a soft bag with your camper's name written on the outside. Absolutely no lunch boxes. A lunch drink and afternoon snack will be provided daily by Camp Shalom. ***When dropping off or picking your child up at camp, please check your child in and/or out with Emily in the office. Any changes in camper transportation plans must be communicated to Emily in the Camp office!*** Extended hours are available daily from 7:30 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. You may sign your camper up one day in advance by calling the Camp Shalom office. This applies to Camp Shalom Noar- Bogrim campers as well. If your child arrives at the Goodman Campus and is unsupervised by a grown-up before 9:00AM or after 4:15PM there is a user fee of $15.00 for each extended care session used which must be paid at the time of drop-off or pick up. PLEASE REMEMBER to send a bathing suit, towel and jacket or sweatshirt, all marked with your camper's name, to camp every day. Extra dry clothing is always a good idea as well. Please make sure your child brings sunscreen and bug spray to camp. Clearly label these. Please limit what your camper brings to camp. Label everything, including clothing and sports equipment. Do not send phones, videogames, valuables or toys with your camper. These can get lost or damaged and can easily cause friction with other campers. Toy guns and water guns are strictly prohibited and will be confiscated. **We encourage families to apply sun screen and insect repellant before your child(ren) get to camp in the morning. In addition, if you pack your own sun screen and insect repellant in your child s backpack, the counselors will help them reapply throughout Goodman the day. Campus If you authorized Notes camp to apply sun screen, your camper will be using Rocky Mountain Sun screen for kids, strength 30 SPF. For bug spray, camp will be using OFF Active Sweat with 15% Deet. Please be aware that ticks have been said to be 10 times worse this year, please take some time to check your camper for ticks when they get home from Camp each day!** Parents Note: When dropping your children off, please enter from Hwy. PD, park in the Medication paved Policy parking lot and walk up to camp because the buses can t pull off the road to let cars pass or get past cars parked on the road. For those needing handicap accessible parking, (and have the appropriate permit) spots are available in front of the pool.

3 We are more than happy to assist you with medical issues regarding your child. If your child is required to take medication at camp, camp staff must administer the medication. We cannot do this without a signed parent permission form in our files. If you have sent medication with your child and have not yet filled out the form, please do so immediately or we will not be able to administer the medication. One copy of the form is in this issue of the Sunny Times. If you need additional forms, please contact us immediately. Goodman Campus Firearm Policy: Our policy is that no firearms are allowed on the Goodman Campus at any time. Thank you in advance for abiding by this policy in the future.

I'm Ruthie Sipher-Mann and I am the assistant director of programming again this year at Camp Shalom. During the year, I teach 4K in Sun Prairie. I am so excited to be spending this summer at Camp Shalom. We will be doing tons of fun activities and projects this year! B Shalom, Ruthie Hi! I'm Courtney Nimtz and this is my first summer at Camp Shalom. Last year, I had the opportunity to be at NoBo as a United Cerebral Palsy inclusion facilitator. I loved camp so much that I joined this year as the Assistant Director of Individual Needs. Outside of camp I work with many people with disabilities through respite and I am an RA at Mansfield hall, a house for individuals with disabilities who are college interested. I also am currently an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin Madison studying community and nonprofit leadership. I hope start my own nonprofit later in life working on job skills with individuals with disabilities. I am really excited for camp this summer and cannot wait to get to know not only the campers I will be working with closely, but many others. Hello Camp Families, My name is Emily Satchell! I am a 1 st grade teacher at John Muir Elementary in Madison! This is my twelfth summer at Camp Shalom and I am so excited to be returning as Secretary. I love being at camp and I am really looking forward to working with all the great campers and staff out here. This year, the challah that we are serving at Camp on Fridays is not certified Kosher. If you do not want your camper to eat this challah please contact the Camp office. Thank you. 6 Camp Shalom Shalom Camp Families, Welcome to Third Session of Camp Shalom, Summer 2016! We are looking forward to meeting our new campers and welcoming back former campers. The staff and I are looking forward to an amazing session. This is my 14 th summer at Camp Shalom! My past roles have been a counselor, Bet Unit Head, Programming Director, Director of Camp Shalom-Noar, and now, entering my third year as Director of Shalom. It is important for your campers to bring the following items to camp everyday: a swimsuit, towel, change of clothes (please label all clothing with your child s first and last name), healthy lunch, water-bottle filled with water, sunscreen, bug spray, and shoes they can run around in. Please do not send your camper with toys from home, cell phones, Ipods, handheld video games or trading cards. If you need to make changes to your camper s bus schedule please contact the Camp Shalom office 24 hours in advance. We may not be able to make these changes if we are not given enough notice. We are looking forward to an exciting 9 days of Session 3! Ruthie has a Dinosaur Quest planned for each unit throughout the week, and on Friday, Zoo to You is coming to Camp for campers to enjoy in the morning. We would love to see you Friday at our Visitor s lunch, starting at 11:45 at the Goodman Campus. You are invited to come and eat a picnic lunch with your camper, meet their counselors and their friends! The Sunny Times is a great resource to help you learn about what is going on at camp. Please remember: the Goodman Campus is a pet free & smoke free facility! Food Carts at Camp Shalom Late-night: You asked, we answered! We have reached out to a few local food carts and restaurants and asked them to join us at the Camp Shalom latenight program on Wednesday, August 10 th. Rosati s Pizza will be sold by the slice; we will offer vegetable and cheese options Kona Ice Truck will be selling shaved ice Gigi s Cupcakes will be selling cupcakes **Please note all businesses are accepting CASH only** All of the businesses have agreed to donate a portion of their proceeds to the Camp Shalom Scholarship Fund. So, bring your dinner and buy dessert, or bring dessert and buy your dinner. Or bring both and get a shaved ice as a beverage. No matter what you choose, you can t lose! Thank you to all the individuals, Camp Shalom families, and businesses that donated to the Camp Shalom Scholarship Fund. For the summer of 2016, over $105,000 was awarded to 194 campers so they could attend camp. Camp Shalom continues its tradition of never denying a child a Camp Shalom experience because of financial need. Thank you! 9 Attention Camp Shalom Families: The Camp Shalom late night will be on Wednesday, August 10 th. Families are invited to bring a picnic dinner and join their camper(s) at 5:45 PM. Camp Shalom does not provide bus service in the afternoon on Wednesday, August 10 th. If your camper is not staying for the late night program you will need to make arrangements to pick your camper up at the Goodman Campus no later than 5:45 PM. Please let us know ahead of time. There will be a camp performance after dinner that will end by 7:30 PM. Please fill out and return the permission slip below to inform us of the plans for your camper; all campers must return a permission slip Camper s Name Group # ALL Campers Yes, my camper WILL be staying for the late night and our family will be bringing a picnic dinner on Wednesday, August 10. No, my camper WILL NOT be staying for the late night program.
