3 Live in a Treehouse! The cabins at Camp Ondessonk provide a unique camping experience. Each of our rustic, non-electric units accommodates campers in 5-6 cabins. Shower houses are located nearby. Staff members supervise the unit from their own adjacent cabin. A unit is like a family for the entire week. Units attend activities together, compete in camp games, and build a sense of community. Pictures of each unit are available at Ondessonk.com. Treehouses: The units of Goupil, Daniel, Raganeau, Lalemant, Garnier, Amantacha, and Lalande are tucked away in the trees. These treehouse units feature A-frame roofs, three closed sides, and a labyrinth of connecting catwalks. Brebeuf Cabins: This unit resembles a treehouse, but the cabins sit on the ground. Eight campers share each cabin. Chabanel Grotto: The coolest spot in camp! This oneof-a-kind unit houses 32 campers under a sandstone amphitheater. Campers enjoy the cool stone, and a waterfall if it rains. Monsignor Fournie Village: Features the units of Chiwatenhwa, Aonnetta, and Tekakwitha. The common area includes a rope bridge, amphitheater, and catwalks. Staff Camp Ondessonk is one of the best gifts you will ever give your child. They will gain friends and learn to make decisions on their own. -Lisa, Parent of a Camper All individuals working at Ondessonk choose the job because of a strong desire to serve others. The full-time staff consists of devoted individuals with extensive experience in fields related to youth development and outdoor leadership. The summer leadership staff is comprised of proven, sound decision makers who have completed college or are actively working towards that goal. Ondessonk s counseling/activity staff is predominantly made up of former Ondessonk campers that have worked their way up the ranks. All are carefully selected in a highly competitive hiring process that includes a background check. Excluding the administrative staff, the staff to camper ratio is approximately 1:6. Staff training emphasizes child development, child protection, teaching skills, and responsible leadership. First aid and CPR training is required. Depending upon position, staff members are certified by the Certified Horsemanship Association, National Rifle Association, American Red Cross, or other appropriate certifying bodies. 3

Front-Country Paddling Adventure Ages: Campers will experience a true Ozark river trip as they spend 4 days paddling Missouri s beautiful Eleven Point River. The group will receive a day of instruction at Camp prior to departing. Our lifeguard-certified counselors will lead campers through fun ripples and easy rapids that require navigation but are appropriate for novices. As they go, campers will work on their paddling and outdoor living skills while setting up camp each night under the stars. Campers should be able to complete the intermediate swim assessment. Backcountry Surfing Adventure Ages: Surfing Adventure Campers will travel to historic Charleston, South Carolina where they will participate in a multi-day surf camp with professional surfing instructors. In the afternoons there are opportunities for Stand Up Paddleboarding, visiting Ft. Sumter and exploring the Francis Marion National Forest. This program also includes a half day kayak tour through saltwater marshes with abundant wildlife. Campers must be strong swimmers comfortable in breaking waves. Front-Country Smoky Mountain Adventure Ages: Specially designed for high school age campers, we will travel to North Carolina and experience one of the nation s best introductory whitewater rivers with professional guides. This trip will also include hiking a section of the Appalachian Trail, one of America s greatest long trails. Campers must be able to pass the intermediate swim assessment. Backcountry Front-Country Camping means living in a tent at Camp or at an established campground with bathroom facilities and water available. Backcountry Camping means living in a tent or under a tarp away from a road or vehicle. Backcountry campers must carry all their supplies with them and must find and purify water each day. No bathroom facilities exist. Staff teach campers how to live comfortably without front country amenities.
