We re expecting an amazing summer, full of sports, swimming, and lots of other activities. I have attached for you a camper information form; this form ensures that we know as much about your child before camp starts so we can provide them with the best camp experience possible. Please complete this form with as much information as possible (one form for each child). We ask that you take the time to review the information provided in our Parent Package, as we have added new key pieces of information you will find useful over the course of the summer! 4 Page 3 of 13 General Camp Information Youth camp Junior is a program that will be heavily theme based for children ages 5-8 years old. We strive to meet the needs specific to this age group, with a variety of games, activities and crafts. There will be camp leaders assisting throughout the summer to ensure each child is provided with everything they need for a fun-filled summer. Leader/camper ratios will be 1:8 July 4-7: Canada Week! July 10-14: Oopy Goopy July 17-21: The Superheroes July Leader/camper 24-28: Movin ratios and will Groovin be 1:12 Through the Decade s Leader/camper ratios will be 1:12 July 31 August 4: Bugs Galore August 7-11: Wild Wild West August 14-18: Under the Sea August 21-25: Sweet Eats and Cool Treats August 28 Sept. 1: Aloha Summer Camp Hours Camp Sign In Hours: 7:00am 9:00am Camp Program Hours: 9:00am 4:00pm Camp Sign Out Hours: 4:00pm-5:00pm Before (7-9am) and after (4-5pm) care is included in the regular camp fee! Code of Conduct There are four agreements which each and every camper is expected to abide by at camp: 1. To be respectful to myself 2. To be respectful to my fellow campers 3. To be respectful to my Youth Leader 4. To be respectful to my environment Please inform us of any family or behavioral issues concerning your child(ren). Our staff will make every effort to accommodate your child s needs. Staff reserves the right to dismiss any participant who is, in the staff s opinion, a hazard to the safety and rights of others or who appears to have rejected reasonable controls of the program. In the event of an incident, we may be required to fill out a Managing Behaviour and Code of Conduct form (see attached), which will specify any disciplinary actions required.

5 Page 4 of 13 Program Ready Checklist Is your child Program Ready? To support the success, safety and inclusion of all individuals registered and participating in the Town of Tillsonburg s programs, it is important that participants attending these programs are Program Ready. Please use this checklist to help gauge if your child is ready for camp. If go through this checklist and find that your child is not able to complete the tasks listed, it is possible that your child may not be ready to attend camp just yet. If this is the case, we encourage you to revisit this checklist in the future and register when they are ready! Can your child: Take direction and instructions from a staff person Dress/undress themselves Be responsible for own belongings Go to the bathroom without assistance Comfortably interact in a group environment Interact and participate in the program in a way that is safe for themselves and others Eat their own lunch without being directly supervised All children need to be Program Ready when participating in town run programs, either independently or with one on one support. Our goal is to provide fun and safe programs for your child. Staff has been trained in a variety of behaviour management techniques to encourage positive behaviour and self-discipline. If a child is causing harm to themselves or to someone else or is being unsafe, staff may need to intervene. Our priority is your child s safety and success.

Your child(ren) may dress-up or bring extra supplies to camp (no electronics).

7 Page 6 of 13 Weekly Highlights and Extra Fees Listed below are optional activities. If a camper does not wish to participate or has not paid the additional fee other camp activities will be run. Roller Skating - Every Tuesday in July! This will be held at the Community Centre, FREE of charge! If your child wishes to participate in roller skating, it is mandatory to wear a helmet! Alternate activities will be held should they choose not to participate. (Bring helmet on Tuesday s in July to participate The only exception is on Wednesday July 19 th instead of the 18 th due to the trip to Broadway Cinemas) Pizza Boston Pizza - Thursday, July 27 th & Thursday, August 31 Campers will go to Boston Pizza and prepare their own personal pizza alongside their pizza chefs! This event will take place INSTEAD of ordering Dominos Pizza on these days. This activity will have an additional fee of $5.75 (each day) that can be paid at the time of registration. Bring your Bike to Camp! Monday, July 24 th & Tuesday, August 8 th Campers are invited to bring their bike to camp on this day to take part in fun obstacle courses, skills and drills! This is an optional event, if campers are not able to bring a bike to camp other camp activities and games will take place. Please note that it is MANDITORY to wear a helmet and close toed shoes (running shoes preferred). Toronto Zoo - Thursday, August 24 th This bus trip is offered to anyone in the community and is not directly related to camp however it is an option for our campers. If there is enough camper interest, we will send a few leaders along to accompany them. The bus will be leaving at 8:00am and will not be returning to Tillsonburg until 5:30-6:00pm the same day. This trip will have a fee of $57.00+tax that can be booked and paid for at the Customer Service Desk. Listed below are MANDATORY additional fees that must be paid at the time of registration. On the dates listed, the events run are highlights of the day that all campers are to participate in if registered. Gay Lea Dairy Heritage Museum, Aylmer - Friday, July 14 th A field trip day which includes a museum tour, milking a fake cow (no live animals on site), nature hike/scavenger hunt, crafts, making and tasting ice cream (vanilla) as well as team challenges and games. Campers will bring their own lunch and drinks, to have a picnic lunch under the large shade tents. Campers will also need to bring sunscreen and bug spray. We will arrive at Gay Lea at 10:00am and arrive back at the Community Centre at 3:30pm. This trip will have an additional fee of $10.00, which can be paid at the time of registration. Broadway Cinemas Wednesday July 19 th and Wednesday August 30th A personal screening of new summer movies! We will take two separate trips throughout the summer to watch kid friendly shows. The movies will not be released until 2 weeks before show time. There will be an additional fee of $10.00 (each day) that can be paid for at the time of registration. Includes popcorn and a drink.

8 Page 7 of 13 Pottery - Wednesday, July 26 th & Wednesday, August 16 th The Station Arts Centre will come in and make pottery art with the campers that they will be able to take home! This will have an additional fee of $5.00(each day) that can be paid at the Customer Service Desk at the time of registration. Salthaven Wildlife Presentation - Wednesday, August 2 nd Salthaven focuses on introducing people to the uniqueness and diversity of Ontario wildlife and works to help sick, injured or orphaned wild animals. Children at a young age can be inspired to develop a lasting passion for improving the environment. There will be an additional fee of $5.00 that can be paid at the time of registration. All proceeds collected will be going toward helping sick, injured or orphaned wild animals and birds that are rehabilitated at Salthaven and given as an honorarium. Niagara Falls (Journey Behind the Falls & Butterfly Conservatory) - Friday, August 11 th We will be travelling by bus to Niagara Falls. We will visit the Butterfly Conservatory where over 2,000 colourful tropical butterflies float freely among lush, exotic blossoms and greenery. We will also be taking the Journey behind the Falls where we will journey deep below and behind the heart of Niagara, and stand in the mist where the mighty Horseshoe Falls tumbles from 13 storeys above. This day will have a total fee $45.00, which includes the day camp fee! Nutrition Class - Wednesday, August 23 rd Nicole will provide our campers with an interactive nutrition presentation. The campers will learn about healthy eating, healthy snacks, and will have the opportunity to prepare their own snack! There will be an additional fee of $5.00 that can be paid at the time of registration.

9 Page 8 of 13 Campers Checklist Lunch and Snacks Please pack a nutritious lunch, extra snacks, juice and a water bottle. Please bring a PEANUT FREE LUNCH and SNACKS. Sun Safety Items Campers must bring sunscreen of a SPF 30 or higher, a hat and sunglasses to camp each day. Sunscreen will be re-applied through the day. Bathing Suit and Towel We visit Lake Lisgar Waterpark on a daily basis for swimming; please bring a bathing suit and towel. Play Clothing & Running Shoes We spend the majority of the day outside, please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed for the weather and camp activities Nut-Free Policy While it is impossible to guarantee a peanut-free environment, the Town of Tillsonburg s first priority is the safety of our participants. Due to the growing number of severe nut-related allergies, we ask parent/guardians cooperation. Please DO NOT send peanut butter, nuts or foods that contain nut by-products with your camper. Thank you for your help with this serious matter. Sign In / Out Procedures Sign In/Out will be located at Memorial Park Pavilion. For the safety of your child(ren), all parents and caregivers are required to sign their child(ren) In and Out daily. Only those who are indicated on the Caregiver Permission Form will be allowed to pick-up/drop-off campers and will be asked to show our staff proof of identification. This will give our staff an opportunity to meet you and allow time for you to make us aware of any special instructions you may have pertaining to your child s needs. Children are not permitted to leave without being signed out. Written permission and identification will be required if a child is to be picked up by another person. *During the weeks of July and July 24-28, Sign In/Out will be located in front of the Lake Lisgar Waterpark to accommodate for the Fair!

10 Page 9 of 13 Rainy Day s Sign In / Out Procedures In case of rain, Sign In/Out will still be held at the Memorial Park Pavilion. In case of severe weather conditions (heavy rain fall, thunder, or lightning - campers are to be dropped off and picked up at the Marwood Lounge. Feel free to contact the Customer Service Desk ( ) to verify the location of the camp during inclement weather. Summer Camp Staff Our leaders have been carefully selected for their enthusiasm and skills. All of our Leaders have been trained in High Five, First Aid, CPR, AED and WHMIS. All staff at Lake Lisgar and the indoor pool is certified with their National Lifeguard Award, First Aid, CPR, AED and WHMIS. Along with these certifications, we ensure all of our staff is trained specifically for our camp programs. Camper Belongings We encourage our campers to label all of their belongings with their name in order to avoid losing them. Please do not send your camper with toys, money (unless for camp-related purchases), electronics, card games of any kind, or sharp objects. We cannot be responsible for any valuables brought to camp. Occasionally your camper may be requested to bring specific items for special crafts or activities. Youth Camp Tuck Shop Tuck shop is a service for all campers during our Waterpark time. This service provides campers with the opportunity to purchase snacks or treats from our snack bar. Please DO NOT send money to camp! A credit will be put on your child s account and our Youth leaders monitor the amount that each child spends. Only money on your account will be used, purchases that exceed the money placed on your account will not be permitted. Pizza Lunch Every Thursday, we offer Domino s Pizza lunch. This is available to all campers for a cost of $5.75 that can be paid at the customer service desk. This will include juice and chips. Medical Information The Camp Health Form regarding medication/allergies/special needs of your child(ren) is included in this package and can be left at the customer service desk at the time of registration. This needs to be completed before participation in our Day Camp Program.

11 Page 10 of 13 EpiPens and Inhalers We request that any camper requiring an EpiPen or inhaler, please bring it in a separate fanny pack or bag that they can wear all day. Please check the expiration dates on the supplies prior to the start of camp. Let your child s leader know that there is an EpiPen/inhaler and where it is kept. Waterpark Swim Times Always a favorite at camp! ATTENTION PARENTS Please provide sunscreen for your camper. We will be applying sunscreen periodically throughout the day, especially before AND after each swim. Junior Camp will be swimming at Lake Lisgar Waterpark from 12:30pm 1:30pm each day. Registration Information Where do I Pre-Register? Pre-registration can be done at the Tillsonburg Community Centre, Customer Service Desk. *Please Note: the registration process will take minutes. Customer Service Desk Hours Monday to Friday: 8:00am-6:00pm Saturday & Sunday: 10:00am-1:00pm* *Closed on Sundays beginning June 1 st * Pricing Information per day or $ per week; $ for a short week A 30% discount is offered for an additional child on a week-long camp. Extra charges may apply for special events and off-site trips Refunds and Customer Service Desk In order to receive a refund on a weekly OR daily camp, you must let the customer service desk know before 9:00am of the scheduled day of camp. A $15.00 administration fee will be applied to all refund requests. Customers can leave a full credit on their account, in which case, no fee is charged. 12 Page 11 of 13 Town of Tillsonburg, Parks and Recreation MANAGING BEHAVIOUR AND CODE OF CONDUCT Problem Solving: When working to guide participant behaviour, staff will first employ problem solving techniques to help participants understand the consequences of their behaviour. If problem solving shows insufficient results for maintaining a safe, constructive environment for all, staff will implement the following procedures. Infraction Behaviour Discipline Minor Infraction Moderate Infraction Minor - Continued disobedience of a program rule - Continued disobedience of a verbal instruction - Other: Moderate - Reckless disregard for safety of other participants - Fighting - Swearing - Defiance of staff authority - Bullying - Other: Zero Tolerance Initial Offence: The participant will be required to sit out for a period of five minutes. Second Offense: The participant will sit out again and parents/legal guardian will be notified that a third infraction will result in a suspension Third Offence: The participant will be suspended a full day. Initial Offence: The participant will be removed from the program for a period of time and parents/legal guardians will be notified immediately that a second infraction will result in a suspension Second Offence: The participant will be suspended for a full day. Third Offence: The participant will be suspended for a full week. Disciplinary actions are progressive irrespective of the infraction with the exception of Zero Tolerance incidents. - Possession of or use of any weapons Parents/legal guardian notified of the infraction and the - Physical abuse of other participants or staff participant is suspended for the duration of the season. - Uttering physical threats - Smoking or use of illegal drugs Police are notified if appropriate. - Theft The effectiveness of this procedure is dependent on the co-operation and communication between staff, parents/guardians and child. Today, was involved in We ask that you have a talk with your child explaining that this behaviour is not appropriate. This is 1 st, the 2 nd, the 3 rd warning (discipline is progressive). After three warnings, we will have to ask that leave our program for 1 day, 1 week, a. Should your child be suspended, staff will make every effort to contact you prior to your arrival. We hope that this issue is resolved and will not re-occur. Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.
