Quality approval The stove has been tested by the Swedish National Testing and Research Institute and meets the applicable regulations for CE approval and the stricter requirements for P marking. Certificate number for P Marking: Certificate number for Swan Marking: Certifierad Certifikat nr NORDIC ECOLABEL Manufacturer s declaration This product has been manufactured in accordance with the documents that constitute the basis for product certification and the relevant criteria for production control. Requirements relating to the flue For both rear flue connections and top flue connections the chimney must be able to withstand temperatures of at least 350 C. Warning! When the stove is in use certain surfaces become very hot. Physical contact with these surfaces can cause skin burns. Pay particular attention also to the high temperatures of the heat radiated through the glass door. Do not place combustible material closer than the recommended safe distances. Failure to observe these safe distances can result in an uncon trolled fire. A smouldering fire can cause gases and fumes to ignite without warning, with the risk of causing damage to both persons and property. IMPORTANT! Always contact your local authority planning office before installing a wood-burning stove or fire-place. The owner of the house is personally responsible for ensuring compliance with the mandatory safety requirements and must have the installation approved by a qualified inspector. Your local chimney sweep must also be informed about the installation as this will affect the routines for regular chimney-sweeping services. 4 General information This folder contains instructions on how to assemble and install stoves in the Contura 600 series. The stove also comes with comprehensive Lighting and Maintenance Instructions. Please take time to read all this information carefully and keep it in a safe place for future reference. Contura 600 series stoves have been type-approved in Sweden for connection to a chimney which can withstand flue gas temperatures of 350 C. The connecting sleeve has an external diameter of 150 mm. To ensure proper combustion, sufficient air must be supplied to the stove from outdoors. Technical specifications Output 3 9 kw Nominal output 6 kw (approx. 1.5 kg/hr) Efficiency, up to 80% T 660K 670 Weight (kg) Width (mm) Depth (mm) Height (mm) Connecting ext. Ø150 mm Type approved in accordance with: European standard EN class 1 Swedish environmental and quality certification, P marked cert. no Swedish type approval, cert. no. 0388/01 Norwegian standard NS 3059, certificate no German standard DIN , RO Danish standard 887-1, id nr 598 Building permission It may be necessary for you to apply for building permission from your local planning authority before installing a stove or erecting a chimney. Before starting installation work, make sure that you check which regulations apply. Structural support Check to make sure that the floor is strong enough to support the weight of the stove and chimney. If you intend to locate the stove on standard wooden floor joists, contact a professional builder to make sure that the construction will withstand the load. If the total weight does not exceed 400 kilos, it is not usually necessary to reinforce the joists. Floor plate To protect the floor from sparks and falling embers the stove must stand on a non-combustible surface which extends at least 300 mm in front of the stove and 100 mm along each side. As other statutory requirements apply in some countries, we recommend that you consult the relevant authority or an authorised chimney-sweep in your area. Chimney The draught in the chimney must generate a neg ative pressure of at least 12 Pa. The draught is affected both by the length and cross-sectional area of the chimney, and by how well sealed the construction is. The shortest recommended chimney length is 3.5 metres. The cross-sectional area of the chimney must be approximately cm 2 ( mm in diameter). Make sure that there are no gaps around soot hatches and flue-pipe connections. Remember that the draught is reduced in flues with sharp bends or horizontal sections. A horizontal flue length of up to 1.0 metre is permissible, provided that the vertical flue is at least 5.0 metres in height. It must be possible to clean the flue throughout its entire length, and the soot hatches must be easily accessible. 5 Installation distances to walls and ceiling Stand the stove on a floor plate, ensuring that the stove is no closer to the wall/ceiling than the minimum dis tances indicated in the diagrams below. For stoves with a top flue connection to a steel chimney, please refer to the assembly and installation instructions for the relevant brand of chimney. A = height from floor to chimney connection B = height from floor to centre of hole for rear flue C = height from floor to air inlet D = height from floor to lower edge of door E = height from floor to top of door All measurements in millimetres. 650 Combustible Brännbart ceiling tak Observe the minimum distances to combustible materials prescribed by the manufac t urers of the chimney. Allow at least 1.0 metre from the stove door to any combustible part of the building structure or interior fittings. A separate floor plate (accessory) increases the connection height to the chimney by 10 mm. Important! If the stove will be installed on a turnabl e plate, the distances indicate d below will not be valid. Ext Utv. 7 Air supply Combustion air for the stove can be supplied through a duct directly from outside, or indirectly through a vent in the wall of the room where the stove is installed. The drawings on the right show various alternative methods of supplying the stove with air. Before fitting an air supply duct to the air inlet, the heat reflector under the stove body must be re moved. The air duct connection on the stove has an external diameter of 64 mm. The stove has two partly punched covers to provide the option of leading the air supply duct through the rear panel or the base-plate. Indirect air supply through the external wall. Through the external wall. Remove the partly punched metal cover with a hammer. Important! To prevent condensation in air ducts which pass through heated areas, the duct must be insulated with 30 mm of mineral wool covered with a proprietary moisture seal (plastic vapour diffusion retarder). It is important to seal carefully around the duct where it passes through the wall or floor. Use jointing compound. For ducts longer than 1.0 metre, the diameter must be increased to 100 mm, and the size of the vent increased correspondingly. A 1.0 metre length of insulated ducting for combustion air is available as an optional extra. Through a suspended floor/wall-and-cavity foundation. 30 mm Through the floor and foundation slab. 83

Unpacking To start with, leave the stove body screwed in place on the delivery pallet. Remove the components and accessories supplied in the delivery package and place them on one side. Dismantle all the loose components from the stove body (log-guard/firebars, fire-box surround, grate disc, cast-iron fire-bed and ash-pan). Then remove the stove body from the pallet. Warning! The stove body may tip forwards before the base-plate has been fitted. For this reason it is important not to unscrew the stove body from the pallet until all loose components have been removed. Lift up the smoke baffle and re move the front of the side section. If necessary, move the castiron firebed slightly to the side to make this easier. Continue by removing the rear of the side section in the same way. Lift the smoke baffle out and remove the remaining sections. Lift the grate plate at one of its edges from the lugs. Remove the ash-pan with cover. Leave the parts disassembled until the base has been installed and the stove has been positioned. Reinstall the parts in reverse order when the stove has been constructed and is in position. 84

GB Top flue connection to a chimney When installing the chimney, please refer to the manufacturer s installation instructions. Below we explain how to connect the chimney to the stove. Stoves are supplied from the factory ready for connecting to a top flue. To prepare the stove for connection to a rear flue, the connecting collar and covering cap need to change places. Rear flue connection to a brick-lined chimney Mark out the centre of the hole to be made in the wall for a rear flue connection. Check the height to make sure that the hole aligns with the chimney connection on the rear of the stove. Make a hole at least 180 mm in diameter and then secure the flue collar in place in the wall using heat-proof mortar (not supplied). Allow the mortar to dry before connecting the stove to the flue. Fit the connecting sleeve between the stove and the flue collar in the wall. Make sure that the gasket does not work loose from its position. Seal the joint between sleeve and collar with sealing rope, or use heat-resistant sealant for a tighter seal. Top flue connection Slide the flue base over the collar. Make sure that the seal round the collar is not dislodged. If further sealing material is required, heat-resistant sealant may be used. Important! When connecting to a top flue it is important to fit the hot air vent in place before connecting the chimney flue. 85

650 Fitting the surround for Contura 650 Lay the stove down on its back on the pallet. Secure the base-plate in place with the four female screws supplied. Fit them from the inside of the legs into the lugs on the base-plate. Loosening the screws holding the legs in place on the body of the stove may make assembly easier. Do not tighten the screws until the stove is standing on a flat surface. Important! The heat reflecting plate must be fitted underneath the body of the stove if the area below is to be used as a log-box. The heat reflector can be removed by turning it to the left until it slides free from the lower set of screws holding the legs in place. The heat reflector is hooked back in place on the screws by turning it to the right. 1 2 Each of the front angle brackets is fitted in place with two Phillips screws. The rear angle brackets are fitted with Phillips screws and nuts through the innermost hole of the fire-box. The rear panel is fitted between the brackets on the stove with four self-tapping screws. For rear flue connections the punched plate in the rear panel must be tapped out with a hammer. The top screws secure the angle brackets and the rear panel to the back of the stove. 86

650 Undo the screws to the angle brackets at the front of the construction. Fit the heat reflector by sliding the rear end into the gap between the rear panel and the fire-box.
