Walker, Director CONTACT: Elaine Sanchez FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Public Affairs Manager Apr11 27, (702) March Passenger Count Soars Above Previous All-Time High 3~9Million Passengers Fly Through McCarran LAS VEGAS McCarran International Airport set a new record in March with 3.9 million passengers. Airlines report an 8.1 percent increase in arriving and departing passengers in March 2004 compared to March 2003, and a year-to-date increase of 7.1 percent. The last 12 months have been record-breaking for McCarran. March s passenger numbers beat last July s previous all-time high by more than 200,000 passengers, said Randall H. Walker, director of the Clark County Department of Aviation. In July 2004, we accommodated 3.7 million passengers, beating the previous record, set in March 2004, by only 63,000 passengers. For us to set new record, in March, by more than 200,000 passengers indicates this year is shaping up to be every bit as astounding as 2004 in terms of growing passenger numbers. ~IIIIIII~ Capacity will be one of the biggest issues we face this year. The opening of the new 11-gate wing of the D Gates Satellite Concourse will help us meet the demands of increasing passenger counts, said Rosemary Vassiliadis, deputy director of the Clark County Department of Aviation. Each of these gates will accommodate up to 450,000 passengers annually. The last major terminal construction projects that McCarran airport will undertake are in the planning stages. These include the fourth wing of D Gates and Terminal 3, which will be located approximately at the current intersection of Russell Road and Maryland Parkway.
