5 KILLINEY MARTELLO TOWER A guided tour Meet just inside the main gates. South 7 Tara Hill, Killiney the fortification within a walled compound on Killiney Hill road consisted of a tower for 16 men with an 18-pounder gun, a guardhouse and a raised earthen battery armed with three 24-pounder guns built between to repel a threatened French invasion. Its elevated postion meant that it acted both as a supporting position and as an observation post. 01 July 04 September Tours every Tuesday and Thursday Hours from 2pm 5pm (4 tours daily) Tour duration: 60 minutes Max capacity: 15 people Not wheelchair accessible. 9 THE METALS A guided tour Meet at the Queen Victoria Fountain, Dún Laoghaire. The Metals is the historic pathway that linked the quarry in Dalkey to the harbour works in Dún Laoghaire. 10 THE ORATORY, DÚN LAOGHAIRE Guided visit and DVD presentation Library Road Entrance, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. (Entrance is beside the Children s playground on Library Road) The Oratory in Dún Laoghaire is a hidden gem of Celtic revival art. This tiny building is home to some of the most spectacular artwork from the early part of 20th century Ireland, all produced by Sister Concepta Lynch. A thousand years ago half the land of Dundrum was granted to the church, giving two local histories, and this tour takes in both. 18 THE OBELISK, STILLORGAN A guided tour Entrance is at Carysfort Woods Carysfort Avenue, Stillorgan. The Stillorgan Obelisk is believed to have been built in 1727 by Lord Allen as a monument to his wife, Lady Allen. Standing over 100 feet high, it was designed by the eminent architect Sir Edward Lovett Pearce who also designed the Bank of Ireland on College Green.
