1 H ERITAGE L INCOLNSHIRE Lincolnshire Lincolnshire Heritage Open Days th - 15 th September Over 100 Free Events FOR ALL THE FAMILY MATERIAL MATTERS

2 Celebrate the rich and varied local heritage of the historic county of Lincolnshire during Heritage Open Days Heritage Open Days are held all over Europe and aim to widen access to the natural and historic environment and celebrate its diversity. In 2013 events in England are co-ordinated and publicised by the National Trust, Civic Voice and Heritage Alliance. Since 1994 Heritage Lincolnshire has championed the annual programme for this county. Many event organisers are volunteers who are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the historic places, objects and archives they help look after. These volunteers, and others who work at historic sites across the county, are keen to welcome visitors on these special days. Over 100 special openings and events have been arranged across Lincolnshire and all are FREE OF CHARGE. Use this booklet to plan your visits and have an enjoyable few days. Key to symbols Material Matters Special activities for children Refreshments Properties/events which offer their own parking facilities Toilets Additional cost Generally suitable for wheelchair users Partially or conditionally suitable for wheelchair users This year s theme is Material Matters and the programme is the most diverse and varied we have ever had, with a large number of events taking place for the first time which are specific to our theme. Events this year include a number of tours around special buildings, guided walks around Lincolnshire s market towns, living history events and talks and demonstrations of the distinctive buildings of Lincolnshire and the diverse materials which they have been created from. Details of our events are available on our website, and we will keep this up to date with any alterations to the programme of events. The website gives information about events across the country. Enquiries If you have any questions about Lincolnshire Heritage Open Days please telephone the Heritage Trust of Lincolnshire on (01529) or visit our website where you can get updated information. Heritage Lincolnshire s offices are closed on Saturday and Sunday 14 th 15 th September. Booking Please note that some visits, tours, talks or walks must be booked. Not all events and properties are open on all four days. Some are only open for timed tours and others only by pre-booking. This is necessary for safety and comfort reasons. Many of these events are put on by volunteers with limited free time, or in venues that are not usually open to the public. To avoid disappointment, as places are limited, you are advised to book as soon as possible. Please do not attend a booked event unless you have pre-booked as this is not fair to the event organiser or the other people who have booked. Booking with the Heritage Trust of Lincolnshire is available during office hours and will close at 5pm on Tuesday 4 th September. This is to give us enough time to get the details of who has booked to the event organiser. If the event organiser provides booking, you may be able to book right up to the event but remember, the event organiser will appreciate prior notice and if you leave it too late all the places may be taken. In loving memory of Hilary Healey Hilary s dedication and great knowledge of Lincolnshire has been indispensable to the Heritage Open Days Team, her help and guidance will be sadly missed. 2 Heritage Open Days Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 September 3
