69 67 REGULATIONS CONCERNING FIRE ALARM AND SPECIAL SIGNALS. 1. Alarms shall be designated as first, second, third, fourth, fifth,, sixth and seventh; the seventh alarm is a general alarm. All alarms following a first alarm from the same box are to be termed as multiple alarms, and such alarms shall be given only by the officer commanding at a fire. 2. One or more multiple alarms may be omitted and the next in order given; in such case the response and covering to the multiple received shall include assignments of the alarms omitted. 3. For a first alarm three (3) rounds of the box number will be struck on tappers and two (2) rounds on gongs. For multiple alarms (except the general), a preliminary signal, designating the specific alarm, i. 6., two (2) blows for a second alarm, three (3) for a third, four (4) for a fourth, five (5) for a fifth and six (6) for a sixth alarm to be followed by the box number will be struck one (1) round on both tappers and gongs.

East Milton Quincy Automatic Alarms Boston automatic alarms are despatched from the central office of that company; the signal for these alarms comprises the box number indicating the building location followed by a series of quick blows to indicate the floor struck two rounds on the automatic company tappers. Company alarms are transmitted from the company's central ofl&ce to department office and from that office to department stations: The signal for these alarms comprises a preliminary of eleven (11) blows followed by the box number, struck two rounds on department tappers only. 74 72 8. Drill School Signal. Two (2) blows struck three times, thus on tappers, at 8 A. M. or at P. M., denotes no session of Drill School. Marine Call for Fire Boats. Three (3) long and two (2) short whistle blasts to be given by any boat and continued until answered by fire boat. 10. Railroad Signal for Fire. One (1) long and three (3) short whistle blasts, repeated several times. 11. Signal for Company Units. For the purpose of despatching company units to a particular box the following signals will be struck two rounds on tappers only: (For engine companies) four (4) blows, twice (For ladder companies) five (5) blows, twice (For rescue companies) six (6) blows, twice (For tower companies) seven (7) blows, twice

Example, Call for Engine Company 10 to respond to Box 1612: Call for Ladder Company 20 to respond to Box 3127: 12. Signal for High Pressure System. In case the High Pressure System is out of service, eight (8) blows will be struck twice on tappers; when it is restored to service, nine (9) blows will be struck twice on tappers. (See summary for signals regarding control of pressm-e, etc.) 13. Public School Signal. One blow struck three times, thus on gongs and three blasts of fire boat whistles, at 7.45 A. M., will denote no morning session of public schools and at P. M. will denote no afternoon session.

76 Emergency Signals. In case a telegrapher has not arrived at a box and a fire is of such volume as to warrant the immediate striking of a multiple alarm, such alarm may be ordered on the box telegraph key by the special code provided for same. See 15. summary for code. Telephones. When no response is received to a telephone call from the fire alarm office, the following signal may be struck on tappers; four blows, three times on receipt 16. of which the officer in command will first try to communicate with office by station telephone and if failing to do so, then by some telephone adjacent to station.
