News Roundup 1 Delivery of 88,000 ton Coal Carrier CORONA WISDOM We are proud to announce the delivery of CORONA WISDOM, an 88,000-ton bulk coal carrier, at Shin Kasado Dockyard Co., Ltd. of Imabari Shipbuilding Group Japan on January 19, 2018, which was added to our Corona series fleet. A naming and delivery ceremony was held on that day and was attended by Mr. Koizumi, President of Joban Joint Power Co., Ltd., and his wife as well as Mr. Kurokawa, Executive Vice President of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., and many other stakeholders. The carrier was delivered without a problem, impressively named by President Koizumi, with its rope nicely cut by the President s wife. Celebrated by many stakeholders, the carrier embarked on its maiden voyage to the coal port of Newcastle, Australia. CORONA WISDOM is named for our wish to use our wisdom and contribute to the safe and secure transportation of coal for power companies. To improve the propulsion efficiency of its propeller, the vessel is equipped with a WAD (weather adapted duct) in expectation of the continued enhancement of fuel efficiency in comparison with conventional vessels. CORONA WISDOM also incorporates the latest technologies, such as a ballast water treatment apparatus, to protect marine ecosystems. As a pioneer of beamy, shallow-draft bulk coal carriers, the Corona series has enjoyed the long patronage of Japanese power companies. During that time, we have developed a system for maximum safety for voyages and cargo handling through the development of hulls and our unique crew training. The Corona series is among the world s largest Post-Panamax fleet. In the future, the fleet will grow and we will utilize our experience and technologies that we have built over many years to serve clients as an expert in thermal coal transportation. Allow us to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for those who have greatly helped us in the completion of the construction of the ship. Please keep your eyes on CORONA WISDOM and our fleet of the Corona series. Thermal Coal No. 1, Thermal Coal Group
News Roundup 2 Maiden Voyage of New LNG Carrier BISHU MARU LNG Team No. 1, LNG Group We are proud to announce that BISHU MARU, an LNG carrier built at the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Sakaide Works, embarked on her maiden voyage on December 26, 2017, and returned without any issues on January 31, For almost the next 20 years, the vessel will primarily engage in LNG transportation between Japan and Australia and will be part of the fleet of JERA Co., Inc. It inherits the name BISHU MARU from our former vessel that went into service in 1983, which was the first LNG carrier in Japan. BISHU MARU arrived at the Wheatstone site near Onslow, Western Australia, on January 5, It was loaded with about 75 thousand tons of LNG (about eight hours worth of LNG consumption in Japan) that had been produced from the submarine gas field located nearly 200 kilometers offshore and had been liquefied at the site. LNG generally involves single-port loading and unloading. On the recent voyage, the new vessel performed two-port unloading by transporting the cargo to the Kawagoe LNG terminal (Mie Prefecture) of Chubu Electric Power and to the Higashi Ogishima LNG terminal (Kanagawa Prefecture) of Tokyo Electric Power Company. It is rare to deliver a vessel s worth of LNG to two The former BISHU MARU (built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries Sakaide Works in 1983)
News Roundup 3 or more clients; however this is part of the effort to optimize the transport volume for Chubu Electric Power and Tokyo Electric Power Company, parent companies of JERA. Recently, demand for environment-friendly natural gas has risen worldwide. Japan has also entered an era of liberalization of electricity and gas. The environment surrounding the procurement of LNG has changed dramatically. Receiving an optimal amount of competitive LNG at the appropriate time will be an important factor for clients to surpass the competition. The recent two-port unloading drew a great deal of attention and enjoyed front-page coverage in an electricity trade paper. The new BISHU MARU fully demonstrated its capacity from its maiden voyage. We aim to continue to satisfy new needs with our transport quality and cooperation with clients. Both terminals held a ceremony to commemorate the first entry of BISHU MARU. Staff members of thermal power plants in Kawagoe and Higashi Ogishima and other concerned persons expressed words of appreciation and encouragement to the crew. At the subsequent get-together, Captain Okada spoke about the photos of the BISHU MARU s construction, which were shown in the vessel s lounge. The first entry was celebrated in a friendly atmosphere. The new BISHU MARU completed its maiden voyage more than five years after the conclusion of the basic charter agreement in The Japanese characters representing its name that are printed on the stem of the new vessel have the same design as its predecessor. This symbolizes the history of LNG transportation in Japan. Inheriting the enthusiasm and wishes of everyone who has been involved in safe transportation for more than three decades, the onshore and offshore staff will unite in their efforts to support the new vessel. Allow us to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for those who have helped the new BISHU MARU to go into service. The vessel s crew
News Roundup 4 Delivery of Second-generation 14000TEU Containerships MILANO BRIDGE and MONACO BRIDGE Asset Management Team, Containerships Business Group MILANO BRIDGE Vessel #1 in the series of five second-generation 14000TEU (M type) vessels was delivered at Hiroshima Shipyard of Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, on January 18, Mr. Suzuki, then Senior Executive Officer at that time, named the vessel MILANO BRIDGE. Attended by Mr. Daisuke Arai, Managing Executive Officer, and other concerned persons, the naming and delivery ceremony was completed successfully. A celebration was held on the bridge with a solemn atmosphere, to pray for the safety of the vessel and its crew. Then the vessel set sail for its maiden voyage with colorful paper tape swaying in the breeze. It was named after Milan, the city that has led the world in the garment and textile industries for years and has also recently prospered in the machine industry. From Asia, MILANO BRIDGE is smoothly heading toward the Mediterranean route, leading our container fleet.
News Roundup 5 MONACO BRIDGE Following MILANO BRIDGE, MONACO BRIDGE, vessel #2, was delivered on February 9, 2018, under fair winter skies. A gorgeous naming and delivery ceremony was held that day. Mr. Suzuki, Senior Executive Officer at that time, strongly announced the name of the ves-sel and his wife kindly cut the rope. As the song Sailing played, the new vessel left the shore by rotating its brand new propeller and set sail for Europe safe and sound. The sight of the departing vessel really impressed the attendees. It was named after Monaco, a gorgeous nation that is well-known for its high gross national income and as the place for motor sports. We hope that MONACO BRIDGE will be treasured by everyone concerned. The vessels in this series are equipped with cutting-edge energy-saving functions and are eco-friendly. All five vessels in the series are scheduled to be delivered in The other five vessels in the series were already delivered in Together, we will have a total of 10 super-sized container vessels. We are confident that these vessels will greatly contribute to the success of Ocean Network Express, a new joint venture consisting of three Japanese containership companies, which will start in April. In closing, we wholeheartedly wish for the safe voyages of MILANO BRIDGE and MONACO BRIDGE and thank those who have been involved in the construction of the vessels.
News Roundup 6 Delivery and Opening Ceremony for a New Building Held in Manila Training Facility for K Line Seafarers that Will Be Strengthened and Expanded Seafarers Policy Team, Marine Human Resources Group A new building named Ocean Breeze was constructed adjacent to an existing facility, with an aim to strengthen and expand K Line Maritime Academy Philippines (hereinafter KLMA (Phil) ), a training facility for seafarers in our Group in Manila, Philippines. The opening ceremony was held on March 2, 2018, and attended by government officials and others concerned with maritime affairs from Japan, Philippines and other countries. Due to our efforts to train seafarers in the Philippines way back 1993, when K Line Maritime Training Corporation (KMTC) was established. Later, an effort was made to expand KMTC by renaming it KLMA (Phil) and relocating it in the K Line Building, which was completed in February KLMA (Phil) currently accepts 10,000 trainees annually and consistently secures and develops good seafarers. It serves as an important pillar that supports our business foundation, namely the safety of vessels and environmental conservation. The recently opened building, Ocean Breeze, has accommodations, a seafarers clinic equipped with the state-of-the-art equipment, and has a 225-person capacity. Combined with the existing building, it can accommodate 282 persons. The upper floors of the 11-story complex are designed for office use. Ocean Breeze will be a symbolic facility to secure and develop all seafarers for our vessels in addition to Philippine seafarers who will be increasingly important. New building OCEAN BREEZE Our local representative office and Group companies, such as those for seafarers manning, marine transport and logistics have moved into the new building. A synergy effect within the Group is also expected. The K Line Group will be united in an effort to secure and develop competent seafarers and to maintain and improve high-quality, safety-based transportation. Mr. Kanamori, our local representative, and Ocean Breeze s directory

Correspondence from Overseas 8 The Town where I Live ~Jakarta~ Hello, everyone. The overseas correspondence in this latest issue is from Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, a country of everlasting summer. Contributed by Mr. Ryuichi Ono, PT. K Line Indonesia (Assigned to Legal Team, Legal Group as from April 1, 2018) In terms of geography, Indonesia is long horizontally. It spans 5,110 kilometers from east to west, which is longer than the U.S. When referring to the entire land mass of Indonesia, you can say, From Sabang to Merauke. Sabang is located in Aceh, the westernmost province, while Merauke is a city in Papua, the easternmost province. There are three different time zones. Jakarta is two hours behind Japan. Indonesia crosses the equator and is nearly five times larger than Japan. It has almost 14,500 islands and a population of about 250 million people. More than 300 ethnic groups, mainly Malays, such as Javanese and Sundanese, live in the diverse nation. The official language is Indonesian, although some of the ethnic groups speak their own language, such as Javanese and Balinese. There are said to be over 500 languages. An orangutan Jakarta is located in western Java, a long island in mid-western Indonesia, with a population Writer of nearly 10 million. Jakarta is surrounded by the metropolitan area of Jabodetabek, which has a population greater than 30 million people. The mean maximum temperature is higher than 30 C throughout the year, however, the climate in Jakarta is cooler than in Tokyo in mid-summer and is particularly comfortable in the mornings and evenings. It has a rainy and dry season. To me, however, this is only a difference between temporary heavy rain and infrequent rain. Sometimes I miss the four seasons of Japan. Once you become used to the climate in Indonesia, though, you find it comfortable. My office and its surrounding area My office is located in Senayan, a southern area in Jakarta lined with office buildings of many Japanese companies as well as shopping malls and restaurants. Outside, the temperature is always summer. But indoor spaces are mostly cold and many people work in long-sleeved clothes or a jacket. Our office has more Christians and Buddhists than average in Indonesia. The building has a common space that is dedicated to prayer for Muslim staff members. Even during working hours, the prayer space is busy at prayer times. The first subway line in Jakarta, MRT, is under construction near our office building. It is scheduled to open in the spring of Because very few train services are available in Central Jakarta, buses large and small are the main means of transportation. The city has a considerable number of taxis, but motorcycle taxis outnumber automobile taxis and are a common mode of transportation for the general public. Recently, motorcycle taxis also accept requests for deliveries of food and drink or other items and shopping. You can even find a room cleaning service using the app from a major motorcycle taxi company. It is very convenient.
Correspondence from Overseas 9 Staff members and their families, taken at the Kizuna Ekiden road relay racec The construction of new LRT (light rail transit), extension of an expressway and infrastructure development and improvement are simultaneously under way in many parts of Jakarta and surrounding areas. Here, public works construction is performed without a plan. The number of automobiles has rapidly increased and Jakarta has more motorcycles than anywhere else in the world. It has fewer intersections and often requires pedestrians to take long detours just to cross the road. Therefore, we are usually plagued by traffic jams. Having said that, I am looking forward to seeing the ongoing construction work completed a few years from now. The office of K Line Indonesia is located in this building Kizuna Ekiden Many companies in Indonesia have regular employee trips, parties and events as part of a welfare program. We have participated in a road relay race titled Jakarta Kizuna Ekiden (hereinafter Kizuna Ekiden ) for two years. Kizuna Ekiden takes place annually in Jakarta and is aimed at nurturing friendship between Indonesia and Japan. (This year s Kizuna Ekiden is scheduled in September.) A team of ekiden runners consists of four people, Indonesians and Japanese. Each team member runs about three kilometers. Last year, 400 teams participated. The event attracts thousands of people, including those who come to cheer. Three teams participated from our company. We have many Indonesian candidates who are screened and seriously practice for one or two months before the race. To the Indonesians, however, working together with others is obviously more fun than practicing for the relay race. At Kizuna Ekiden, other staff members and their families also gather to cheer. This is a big event for our company. Currently, we are in need of more Japanese participants. If you are interested, come and join us. (However, you would be required to shoulder your own travel expenses and such.)
Correspondence from Overseas 10 Food in Indonesia What do you associate with Indonesian cuisine? Representative items would be nasi goreng (fried rice; nasi means rice and goreng means frying or sautéing with plenty of oil) and mie goreng (fried noodles; mie means noodles). This is a diverse nation with many different types of cuisine available. The Indonesian food I usually eat is very oily and hot. Local people add chili pepper-based Numerous small plates of Padang cuisine hot seasoning called sambal and spices to their meals. They would be too hot for people who have difficulty eating spicy food. Roasted chicken called sate ayam (sate means spit-roasting and ayam means chicken) is somewhat different from Japanese yakitori, but it has a simple flavor and suits the Japanese palate. Sate also comes in beef or chevon. I recommend the chevon sate called sate kambing. Originating in Padang, in western Sumatra, Padang cuisine is visually impressive. It is served on many small plates on the table. Ramadan and Lebaran Top: Sate ayam and sambal Indonesia has the largest population of Muslims in the world, who make up about 87% of the total population. However, it is not an Islamic state. Catholicism, Protestant Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism and Bottom: Plates of Padang cuisine on the table Confucianism are officially accepted. Our ID certificate has a box for religion. I am registered as a Buddhist. Indonesians have a residence certificate (KTP), but Muslim Indonesians who often drink alcohol or eat pork are called KTP Muslims behind their backs. Many of the Muslim Indonesians do not go that far and are relatively tolerant. But recently I have felt a tilt to the right. Ramadan (fasting) is a very important event in Islam. It lasts for nearly one month every year. During Ramadan, Muslims do not eat, drink or smoke and engage in abstinence from sunrise to sunset. Indonesians love snacks. Many Muslim Indonesians loyally fast during Ramadan. However, this also means compromising work efficiency during that time. After sunset, they are free to eat and drink. Muslims often find themselves gaining weight when Ramadan is over, partly because they eat a lot in the evening before going to bed. Ramadan is followed by the longest vacation period in the year, which lasts for nearly one week and is referred to as Lebaran. This is like a combination of New Year and Obon in Japan. Many people return to their hometown and spend Lebaran with their relatives. Only during Lebaran does the traffic in Jakarta become smooth. I sometimes ask my Muslim friends if Ramadan is not hard. They say they do not find Ramadan difficult because they are used to it. They like it, because they typically eat at the same time during Ramadan, meaning they have more time to spend with their families. In some respects, Muslims are realistic: they become more enthusiastic about their prayers during Ramadan because it helps them to have more piety than usual.
Correspondence from Overseas 11 Typical holidays of transferees unaccompanied by family In Jakarta, you might find it difficult to decide how to spend your time off. Unlike in Japan, sidewalks are poorly developed or maintained, so it is hard to walk on the street. Drivers inevitably encounter traffic jams and it is too risky for non-indonesians to drive in the city. Watching sports is not a very common hobby. I asked some local people how they usually spend their holidays. They all said that they stay at home or go to a shopping mall with family or friends. Here, shopping malls have stores, restaurants, movie theaters, a gym, an exhibition hall and everything. More than 170 shopping malls, large and small, operate in Jakarta alone. Many people who are transferred and are unaccompanied by family, like me, play golf, partly for exercise. There The writer spends his holidays playing golf are nearly 40 golf courses in Jakarta and its suburbs. Most can be reached by car in 30 to 60 minutes in the early morning. Less expensive courses cost about 5,000 yen. Unlike in Japan, golf courses allow a user to play 18 courses accompanied by a caddie. There are many opportunities to take part in competitions, such as those related to our company or suppliers, universities, provincial associations and golf aficionados. I typically spend my holiday in the following way: Wake up early in the morning Go to a golf course Start playing at around 7:00 a.m. Stop playing after 12:00 p.m. The gathering ends around 2:00 p.m. Return home after 3:00 p.m. and sleep until the evening. I play golf at least once a week. Unfortunately, however, my level of improvement has been disappointing. About my travels Indonesia has 34 provinces. I would like to visit as many as possible, however, I tend to play golf, which is easier to do, on weekends. To date, I have set foot in only 10 provinces. I have been to all provinces on Java, where Jakarta is located, including the province of Borobudur, a UNSECO World Heritage site. You have to take an airplane to go to other islands. The transportation infrastructure is still unsatisfactory, so it is not easy to travel to other islands. This has kept me from visiting many of the other provinces. However, last year I went to Southern Kalimantan, where the orangutans live, and to Tana Toraja of Sulawesi, a mysterious place. In Southern Kalimantan, I traveled down the river by boat and watched orangutans, monkeys and other wildlife. In a natural park in Borneo, I saw a primeval forest that rests above coal. Tana Toraja is well-known for tongkonan, ship-formed unique houses, and the funeral ceremony based on the customs of its indigenous religion. To visit, you have to take an airplane from Jakarta for two and a half hours to arrive at Makassar, and then travel for another eight hours by car. It is a longer trip than going to Japan, but I was able to see the uniquely-formed tomb, terraced paddy fields and tongkonan houses that can be found all over the place. They were well worth seeing. 13 Letters from Abroad 12 SAYONARA of Container Business Contributed by Mr. Goichi Tsuruta, President Director of PT. K Line Indonesia Yesterday on 15th April, the delegates of PT. K Line Indonesia (KLI) visited MV BALTIMORE BRIDGE at New Priok Container Terminal 1 (NPCT1), Tanjung Priok, Jakarta. The vessel was the last vessel which loaded K Line booking cargo ex Japan on Japan/Indonesia direct trade. Although the operation has been handed over to Ocean Network Express (ONE), we visited the vessel to show our appreciation for her contribution to our services for years. Unfortunately, the Captain was on shore when we visited. But we could see and talk with Chief Officer and passed him our memorial plate with carved words Last Bridge Vessel calling Jakarta under K Line Booking. Then we went up to the bridge and took photo in front of K funnel. Beside the funnel, new flag of ONE was flying. The contrast seems the exactly SAYONARA of container business from KLI. In the meanwhile, K Line operating PCC MV JASA BAKTI was arriving at car terminal nearby NPCT1, at just the moment when we visited BALTIMORE BRIDGE. This must be also exact Symbolic Representation of new start of KLI and we made a fresh determination to run the company for success with Car Carrier and other non-liner business such as LNG, Bulk and also Logistics.
Coffee Time 13 Coffee Time Contributed by Mr. Masataka Takahashi, CSR Division, General Affairs Group Sleep makes for a healthy child. This may be true for humans and pandas. Luckily I won the lottery to see Xiang Xiang, the newborn panda at Ueno Zoo. I went with my family, feeling very excited. For the viewing on Saturday, January 27, 2018, there were 42,505 applicants and only 720 won the lottery. This means that only one in 59 applicants was likely to win the chance to see the panda. I heard someone say that I have already used up one year s worth of luck in the first month of the year, but I am very positive, still anticipating a series of lucky events. Each lottery winner is allowed to see the panda for four minutes and Xiang Xiang was cleverly sleeping in a tree. This star did not move an inch throughout the allotted viewing time. Maybe we arrived at the wrong moment, but we were able to see her mother, Shin Shin, wisely trying to eat a lot of food while her cub slept. This was fairly a valuable time. Until the end of January, the selection of visitors involved a lottery system. From February, it has changed to a first-come, first-served basis with numbered tickets. On the first day, 1,200 people reportedly lined up before the zoo even opened.
