Danish participation in the biggest rehab exhibition in China This newsletter brings the article about the so called Crexpo the biggest exhibition for assistive tools in China. Central Denmark Region and nine Danish companies participated in Beijing 4 th -6 th of November. 2 Theme: Private-Public rehab cooperation in China Central Denmark Region and Danish Rehab Group recently participated in the biggest exhibition for assistive devices in China. The combination of excellent assistive devices and long term relations to the Chinese Government institutions makes a good cocktail to do business in the growing Chinese rehabilitation marked. The Danish Ambassador to China, Friis Arne Petersen (right) also joined the exhibition. On November 4th-6th Bent Hansen (S) and Ulla Diderichsen (V) joined Care and Rehabilitation Exhibition (CREXPO) in Beijing together with nine Danish companies from Danish Rehab Group. Denmark was partnering country this year and Danish producers and Central Denmark Region shared the Danish pavilion. The Central Denmark Region booth conducted information materials about Central Denmark Region and Shanghais cooperation with in rehab training, lectures and study tours over the last years. The combination of excellent Danish assistive devices and Central Denmark Regions long and friendly cooperation with Shanghai government makes a good cocktail for opening doors to the Chinese marked for the Danish producers. Speakers from Central Denmark Region The exhibition did not only consist of booths and pavilions but also seminars and different meeting took place over the days. Bent Hansen was one of the key note speakers at The Sino-Denmark Disabled and Elderly Social Service System that not only promoted Central Denmark Region cooperation with Shanghai but also gave a general introduction to the Danish welfare system. The therapists from Central Denmark Region, Annemette Carstensen and Vivi Riber did a presentation at The First International Assistive Device Personalizing and Evaluating Forum with a quite big amount of participants. 2

3 Important visitors at the Danish Pavilion During CREXPO days more than people visited the exhibition. The Danish pavilion for sure got its share of attention. More important, the right people visited the Danish booths. That was honored chairman of China Disabled Persons Federation, Pufang Deng, son of former leader of China, Deng Xiaoping also the vice chairman of China Disabled Persons Federation, Wang Xinxian and not least Shanghai partners; director of Assistive Tools Center, Ms. Song from Shanghai Disabled Persons Federation. More effort to open doors even wider Central Denmark Region and Danish Rehab Group plan to join the coming rehab exhibition in Shanghai in spring 2012 with different kind of activities. Meanwhile the partners work to open doors even wider to the Chinese rehab market, for the benefits of Central Denmark Region s producers and institutions. China rehab challenges China faces huge challenges within the elderly and rehab sector the coming years. More than 13% of the population in China is over 60 years old and in a city as Shanghai it is 23% of the population who is older than 60. The Chinese government takes these facts very seriously. The coming five year plans has a focus on building hospitals, elderly homes and providing other services within the rehabilitation sector. Not only is there a need for assistive devices but also a huge demand for training of therapists and caretakers. A side effect is that it makes good business potential for Danish companies and institutions. Read more For more information about CREXPO please take a look at press release and others stories from November 9 th at Creativity grows in city General News Shanghai s emerging cultural and creative industry has reached 9.75 percent of city GDP and is expected to reach 12 percent by 2015, the government said yesterday. The city said the cultural and creative industry in 2010 reached a total output value of billion yuan (US$86.2 billion), 14.2 percent higher than 2009 and a much higher rate of growth than the city s overall GDP. The industry employed 1.09 million people in Shanghai, the report said. But many individual artists find it increasingly tough to spot an affordable creative studio amid the boom. The city has more than 100 cultural and creative zones, with many focusing on one field, such as the National Digital Press Foundation in Pudong, the National Music Industry Foundation in Hongkou District and the Shanghai animation hub in Yangpu District. Rents for many spaces have hit 15,000 yuan a month for a 100-square-meter studio. 3

4 China Pavilion to be art gallery to 'rival New York and Paris' Shanghai is to transform the Expo 2010's China Pavilion into an art gallery to rival those in New York and Paris, the city government announced recently. The new gallery in the Pudong New Area - to be called the China Art Palace - will be on a par with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Musee d'orsay in Paris, a senior official said. This is part of a plan to make Shanghai "an international cultural metropolis," Zong Ming, deputy head of the Publicity Department of Shanghai's Party committee. The China Art Palace will collect top-level art from home and abroad, primarily to showcase the origins and development of China's modern arts. It is part of a plan by the city government to build 16 new major museums and art galleries and many smaller museums by 2015 and make Shanghai an "international cultural metropolis," said Zong. The palace, which will cover an area of 70,000 square meters, will open on a limited basis next October, Zong said. Another new development, the China Contemporary Art Museum, will stand on the opposite bank of the Huangpu River to the art palace in a 100-year-old power plant featuring the "weather chimney" from the World Expo site. The museum, which is set to cover 15,000 square meters in the former Urban Future Pavilion, will open at the same time as the art palace. After the establishment of the new projects, Shanghai will have three major museums - the existing Shanghai Museum, the Shanghai Art Palace and the China Contemporary Art Museum - for historic, modern and contemporary artworks. Pavilions to reopen as unified complex The Italy, Luxemburg and Netherlands pavilions, plus the former site of the UK Pavilion, are to reopen as a complex for visitors and business in March, officials said. The three pavilions will keep their original looks, while a square will be retained at the UK Pavilion, the main part of which has been dismantled. The compound will become a platform for cultural, business and social exchanges between China and Europe. The 6,000-square-meter Italy Pavilion will have modern and historic exhibitions and business halls. A top Italian fashion academy will open a training center in the Luxemburg Pavilion opposite. 4

5 The 5,000-square-meter Dutch Pavilion will have racing car simulators for visitors, while a parking lot for 100 vehicles will be built near the UK Pavilion square. Also at the Expo site, 28 office buildings will be built in the former Zone B area as the headquarters of more than 10 state-owned enterprises. And the city is to build the country's first hotel cluster, with 1,200 rooms, in front of the Expo Center. By 2015, this will include two five-star hotels and two boutique hotels. Improvement plan for phone booths Shanghai's thousands of telephone booths may be revamped to provide mobile-phone chargers and Wi-Fi, the service manager said. Shanghai Telecom, the phone booth manager, said it plans to make the facilities more helpful to people. As mobiles become dominant in making daily calls, few people now use public phones, especially as most of these phones can be used only with prepaid phone cards rather than coins. Many complained the phone booths are just "street-side decorations." Few people have a phone card when they need to make an urgent phone call, interviewees said. Shanghai has more than 8,000 telephone booths, including many on streets in the central business district that are designed to look like the classic red kiosks originating in London. Wang Yan, a Shanghai Telecom manager, said the company is planning to boost facilities at the kiosks. In future, he said, people can find mobile-phone chargers and information about public transport and dining venues using touch screen technology. He said the company is also expanding Wi-Fi access at telephone booths. Since March, 530 kiosks have provided a Wi-Fi service. Private jet facility at Hongqiao The business aviation base at Hongqiao International Airport in Shanghai has been licensed as the first "4S store for private jets" on China's mainland, with an annual capacity of doing maintenance for 40-plus jets. The license enables the Hongqiao base to conduct repair and maintenance work on various kinds of private aircraft. Projected demand is strong enough that plans are being made to build the city's second such facility at Pudong International Airport, said Jing. Shanghai has seen more business trips and a rising number of private aircraft in recent years. The city's two civil airports handled 2,900 movements of business aircraft this year so far, while the market demand is expected to surpass 3,200 movements, about one third of the country's total. 5

6 Restrictions to be lifted on new-energy car plates China will lift restrictions on the issuance of new license plates for buyers of new-energy vehicles, a move designed to put more green vehicles on the country's roads. New-energy cars will be exempt from the current license plate and traffic restrictions in some major cities, according to a statement jointly issued on Friday by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and National Development and Reform Commission, Under a pilot scheme, 25 cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian and Guangzhou, have been urged to encourage the purchase of environmentally friendly vehicles. The pilot cities are to map out infrastructure projects to set up electric charging posts in parking lots. As of the end of this year, the State Grid will build 75 charging stations and over 6,000 charging posts. The number of stations is supposed to reach 400 by 2016 and 10,000 by Increase in China's rich seeking US residency Wealthy Chinese are emerging as the major group seeking permanent residency in the United States via investment. About three quarters of those applying for the EB-5 investment immigration program were Chinese this year, according to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services. The USCIS said China topped the list with 2,969 applications under the EB-5 program. Of those, 934 have been approved. In 2007, only 270 Chinese people applied, with 161 approved. Since then, the number has continued to grow every year. EB-5 investor status gives permanent residency to foreign nationals who can directly or indirectly create at least 10 jobs in America by investing at least US$1 million. And that threshold drops to US$500,000 if a foreign national invests through "regional centers" in rural areas or urban regions with high unemployment. Chinese are increasingly making up a large proportion of the world's rich. The Hurun Wealth Report 2011 said China had 960,000 individuals with a personal wealth of 10 million yuan (US$1.5 million) or more. China also has 60,000 "super rich" with 100 million yuan or more. According to a recent Bank of China survey, four out of 10 millionaires were thinking of emigrating and sending their children to study overseas, with the US and Canada their preferred destinations. 6
