1 ISSUE DATE: 23 January 2015 RETAIL STAFF BRIEF New ticket design update Introduction Work has been taking place to update the design of the ordinary rail ticket to allow information to be shown in a more customer-friendly way. The new design is now being progressively rolled out across the country and we are issuing this brief to remind and update staff about the changes. Which tickets are being issued to the new design? Credit-card sized tickets (CCSTs) are progressively moving over to the new design. Initially this is being applied to tickets issued by or collected from TVMs, but it is the intention that eventually all CCSTs will use the new layout. However you should be aware that for some time, you will continue to see both old and new designs in circulation. What do these tickets look like? The attached sheet illustrates examples of tickets in the new format. Unlike the old design, completely different layouts will be used for walk-up tickets and Advance tickets. In the case of Advance, these now include the reservations information on the ticket itself. Where the booked journey involves more than 2 legs, the reservations will be printed on a separate coupon (in an updated layout). It is the intention that as ticket machines are replaced a common style of lettering will be used across all printed tickets. However, this will take some years and until then, you will see new design tickets with some variation in letter style. Valid tickets will of course use the correct layout and details, and be printed on correct security printed ticket stock Where might I see these tickets? The machines using the new design are able to issue tickets valid anywhere on the National Rail network, and for travel by any operator. Therefore it is possible that you may see the new ticket design used for any journey on the National Rail network.
