Ruaha National Park and the famous Selous Game Reserve are two of my favourite areas. The Bwindi forest of Uganda is indeed a birders paradise and spending an hour of the day with the Mountain Gorillas has to be one of the most life changing experiences My advice to seasoned travellers would be: do not discount the rainy season for a safari. Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti are full of wild flowers offering amazing and different photo opportunities. Image herds of zebra up to their bellies in lush green grass or the playfulness of lion cubs splashing in puddles. It really is a wonderful time in the bush! I have taken groups all over Africa, but the diversity of Tanzania really grabs you. Where else in the world do you get to combine the best wildlife in the world, the tallest mountain on a continent, various tribal cultures from the people in the towns to the Maasai pastoralists and the Hadzabe who are the few hunter gatherers left, the chimpanzees around the beautiful lake Tanganyika and the pristine Indian Ocean beaches with their rich marine life Being born under the roof of Mt. Kilimanjaro, I love being at my home village of Machame, my other favourite is Zanzibar and in particular Mnemba beach. It is so beautiful with perfect white sand, crystal clear blue water and nobody to bother you. I would recommend that guests take a couple of days after their safari to relax and unwind on Zanzibar before they head home to their hectic life. It is a stunningly beautiful location where verdant forested mountains plunge to white-sand beaches and gin- clear Lake Tanganyika. Due to its remoteness it is an expensive place to get to but the experience is a memory to last a lifetime. I long to go back and listen to the chimps screeching and breathe the mountain air once more Some of my many favourite places in Tanzania are; Manyara Ranch Conservancy, since you can do game walks and night drives, offering a very different perspective on our amazing wildlife. My recommendation would also be to visit the Yaeda valley, home to the small Hadzabe tribe, probably the last full-time hunters/gatherers in Africa with a unique language. I love travelling but my favourite place is Ngorongoro Crater. Such a huge amount of animals in a small area makes game viewing so easy and such fun. I would recommend our clients to visit the Maasai villages on the crater rim, the knowledge the Maasai have of wildlife and their environment always amazes me. MARKETS German Being in the bush is my favourite past time with preference of Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Conservation Area. I love to see the faces of our guests when they see these areas for the first time, the expanse of the Serengeti and the astonishing view from the carter rim. MSHANA FMshana@abercrombiekent.co.tz Length of service: 3 years JACQUELINE DANSON MOYE Marketing Consultant JDanson@abercrombiekent.co.tz Length of service: 7 years I was born near Lake Manyara National Park, so this has to be my favourite place in Tanzania, its home. The small park is very famous for beautiful flamingoes and tree climb lions but it also has great herds of elephants and lots of excellent game. I would recommend that clients try and take some video as well as photos when on safari. The noise of hyenas during the night or the roar of a lion is as emotive as a fantastic photograph. My favorite destination is Mkomazi National Park because I was born and raised in the Pare Mountains near the park. Mkomazi is a spectacular wilderness; within sight to the northwest is Mount Kilimanjaro. It is well off the normal tourist route and is a common breeding ground for elephant, kudu and oryx. MARKETS India, Egypt & Virtuoso I have climbed Mt Kilimanjaro and received the summit. I loved standing on the highest point in Africa overlooking the whole continent, it is my greatest achievement. I would recommend anyone to climb the mountain and to it with A&K as our 97% success rate speaks for itself. MARKETS USA I love to visit The Serengeti National Park which is Africa s most famous park. Renowned for the two million strong wildebeest Great Migration and incredible concentration of predators. I strongly recommend a visit between December and March to observe the great herds giving birth to ½ million calves. This is my favorite place. The largest lake in Africa is the source of the Nile, has amazing fishing, walking, canoeing and boat trips. A lake Victoria visit is a great compliment to a safari as it gives you a chance to relax and enjoy some of the most beautiful sunrises. Tarangire is one of my favourite places, especially in the dry season. Here the animals congregate around the permanent water sources so game viewing can be very impressive. So many times I have seen leopards hunting along the banks of the rivers. I also love the huge numbers of migratory bird species that can be seen here. I like traveling and the Selous is my recommendation, especially for second or third time safari goers. I love the size and scale of the place. More elephants than anywhere else in the world, amazing birds and when the rains come the rivers are full to bursting breathing new life throughout the forested plains. I just love Zanzibar! If you think of an exotic island, you will probably be thinking of Zanzibar. An Island fringed with pristine white sandy beaches for relaxing and a magnificent coral reef for snorkeling and diving. It is also steeped in a rich cultural and historical heritage that is predominantly Islamic. Do not miss a visit to Stone Town. My grandfather was the warden of the Maasai Mara whilst I was growing up so has very special memories, I adore being in the Serengeti as the sheer size and scale of the park blows me away every time I visit and in Uganda I love the roar of Murchison Falls but I must recommend that everyone gets to experience the noise of the chimpanzees chattering to each other at daybreak, a truly hair raising experience My fascination with East Africa started long before I came here. Now my favourites moments are watching a herd of thirsty elephants running to the river in Tarangire, studying the reticulated giraffe in Samburu the pattern so beautiful you would think its hand painted and mastering the grade 5 rapids in the Nile River in Uganda on a kayak. What moments will your clients treasure? I love Lake Tukana, also known as the Jade Sea for its amazing colour. It is the largest desert lake in the world and East Africa s most saline. The arid landscape has very little wildlife but is incredibly beautiful. What amazes me each time I go there is that people not only live there but thrive! Whether it is the plains, the mountains or a stunning sunset, the Kenya bush also fascinates me. Sometimes I don t even need to go on a game drive, just to sit and enjoy the view. My favorite park is Amboseli with the Mt. Kilimanjaro peak on display, surrounded by clouds making a white miniskirt. Unlike the national parks, you have an opportunity to sample some unique activities like horse & camel rides, nature walks, cultural experiences, bush meals/sundowners, heli trips, tree planting, school visits or even fly camping! Again the schedule of the activities is very flexible and is entirely up to the guest depending on their preference and interests I love meeting new people, being close and in touch with nature my favourite places are: Murchison Falls with the roaring waters and Bwindi National Park, home to the unique and endangered mountain gorillas, our closest mammalian cousins. An hour with the gorillas is a true wildlife experience that will always stay with you I just love the Kenyan bush because of its beauty and remoteness which you cannot find in cities! My favourite place is Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya. It has beautiful scenery and the added advantage of being able to view game, walk, ride horses and camels. You are also able to enjoy the beauty and solitude of remote and rarely visited destinations by helicopter. MARKETS USA Each destination in Kenya and Tanzania is unique in its own way. Samburu National Reserve stands out as you have the opportunity to see the unique northern species that are only found north of the equator in the backdrop of stunning landscape. The forest is home to over 300 bird species, 400 butterfly species, 27 species of snakes, 350 tree species and many waterfalls. This is nature at its best for birders and butterfly watchers. It is out of the way but when you get there you have the whole forest to yourself! My favourite place is Maasai Mara; rich in wildlife and the wonders of the wildebeest migration. My recommendation would consider our private camp for a couple of nights, truly an experience making you feel connected to the wildlife around you. MARKETS Australia, Italy, South Africa, Middle & Far East My favourite place is Lion in the Sun in Malindi because it is a tucked away secret, nestled in tropical gardens - you wouldn t realise this place was there amongst the other bigger properties. Wonderful fresh food from the sea and organic garden, amazing service but mostly, the tranquil and calming atmosphere. The Spa is out of this world! MARKETS Australia, US, India, Egypt & Hong Kong Nothing can be more exciting than watching the gorgeous Mount Kilimanjaro early in the morning right from your bed in Amboseli National Park. Listening to the elephants browse nearby and the distant call of a lion. I also love going on a fishing expedition from the Lake Victoria Island of Rusinga or Mfangano islands. Just 140km north-west of Nairobi in Nakuru District where I was born. The park supports a wide ecological diversity with flamingos (Greater and Lesser). The ecosystem has 56 different species of mammals including the white rhino, leopards and buffaloes and a variety of terrestrial birds numbering nearly 450 species. This is a place I would recommend for all travelers to Kenya. MARKETS North & South America It is so hard to decide on a favourite place in Kenya and Uganda as there is so much to see and it is all very different. The one thing most of our landscapes have in common is that it is so beautiful. My advice is to give yourself the time to enjoy each part you visit and if you don t cover it all then you will have to come back!! The Great Rift Valley, Samburu and Tsavo West are my favourite places. They each have two common themes important to me: beautiful landscapes and the guinea fowl my favourite bird. I would recommend all travellers bring a good camera with them but the key is to know how to use it properly! MARKETS French Naivasha boasts of a variety of activities in addition to the wide population of wildlife, it s a bird watchers paradise. Whether considering a day trip or several nights stay in Kenya, include Lake Naivasha as it offers you real adventure and the feel of Africa. Take a boat ride to Crescent Island Sanctuary, hike at Hells Gate National Park climb Mount Longonot.
