4 Pyramids and Sphinx The Pyramids of Cheops, Chefren, and Mycerinos are reckoned as one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The great Pyramid of Cheops is built of 2,300,000 blocks, each weighing an average of two and one-half tons. In the face of such immensity, one can t help but feel the wonder and awe that so many writers and artists have sought to convey over the centuries. Not far from the Pyramids is the Great Sphinx of Giza, which dates from the time of Chefren. Hewn from natural yellowish limestone and standing 65 feet high and 187 feet long, this unforgettable statue combines the head of a pharaoh with a lion s body. Egyptian Museum The Egyptian museum is the most important depository of Egyptian antiquities anywhere in the world. It features artifacts from the Pharaonic and Greco-Roman Periods, including the celebrated mummies of ancient Egypt's Kings and Tutankhamun treasures. Memphis & Sakkara Memphis served as the capital of Upper and Lower Egypt some years ago during the First Dynasty. Menes, the first pharaoh of this dynasty, built in Memphis, a great white-walled palace and the Temple of Ptah. One of the most exciting historical and archaeological areas in all Egypt is Sakkara, situated about 15 kilometers south west of Cairo. The famous Step Pyramid of King Zoser dominates the site. It was the first pyramid to be built in ancient Egypt, preceding those at Giza by couple of centuries, and is the work of the famous pharaonic architect, Imhotep.

5 Citadel & Bazaar Situated on a spur of the Muqattam hills, the citadel dominates Cairo's skyline and was the nerve centre of the City and Egypt for almost 700 years. Its construction was initiated in 1176 by Saladin. Mameluke Sultans and Turkish governors later on made it their residence, building palaces and mosques within the Citadel walls. Mohamed Ali in 1800s added significantly to the citadel giving Cairo an important element of the skyline by his alabaster mosque. The tour also includes a visit to Khan El Khalili, a famous Cairo bazaar dating to the late 14th century. Sound & Light Show at the Pyramids Guests enjoy a fabulous 45 minutes show at the feet of the Pyramids of Giza, held every evening. The show does not only tell the story of the Pyramids but the whole story of Pharaonic history of Egypt. Dinner Cruise - Evening tour Dining on the Nile is a delightful way to spend an evening. Cruising restaurants offer international cuisine. Entertainment will usually include a belly dancer and a whirling dervish. 7 Luxor LA01: Luxor and Aswan (Nile Cruise Program) Sailing on 14 th 22 th March, 2010 from Luxor to Aswan. March, 2010 & 1st Day: Luxor A.M. Embarkation before lunch. P.M. Visit the temple of Karnak and the temple of The Temple of Luxor: was dedicated to the Theban Triad, the three gods Amun-Min, Mut and Khonsu (the two latter had their respective temples at Karnak). Mut was Amun-Min's wife, and Khonsu their son. The temples at Karnak and the Temple of Luxor were connected by an impressive avenue flanked with grand sphinxes on both sides. The entire avenue was more than 3 km long, and must have had more than 2000 sphinxes all together. The Temples of Karnak are a series of monuments that were the main place of worship in Thebian times, and they can be divided into the Amun temple Enclosure, which is the largest; the Mut Temple Enclosure on the south side; and the Montu Temple Enclosure. The Amun and Montu enclosure were once connected by canals to the Nile providing passage for sacred boats, during festivals. Karnak is the main center of worship in ancient Egypt. No site in the world makes more overwhelming & lasting impression then this (Temple of Temples). Return to the Nile Cruise. Farewell dinner on board followed by belly dancer performance Overnight in Luxor. 2nd Day: Luxor / Esna / Edfu Buffet breakfast on board A.M. Cross to the West Bank. Visit the Necropolis of Thebes, Valley of the Kings, the temple of Queen Hatshepust, and the Colossi of Memnon. Morning visit to the West Bank including: Colossi of Memnon Amenhotep III (18th Dynasty) built a mortuary temple in Thebes that was guarded by two gigantic statues on the outer gates. All that remains now are the 19.5m statues of Amenhotep. Though damaged by nature and ancient tourists, the statues are still impressive. Long after Amenhotep the Greeks decided that the statue represented their hero, Memnon, son of Tithonus, and Eos, who fought in defense of Troy and was slain by Achilles.

8 Valley of the Kings & Queens The Egyptian belief that "To speak the name of the dead is to make him live again" is certainly carried out in the building of the tombs. The king's formal names and titles are inscribed in his tomb along with his images and statues. Most of the tombs were cut into the limestone following a similar pattern: three corridors, an antechamber and a sunken sarcophagus, construction usually lasted six years, beginning with the new reign. Most of these tombs are retaining their original colors Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshpsut Transfer back to the Nile Cruise and lunch on board The mortuary temple of Queen Hatshpsut is one of the most dramatically situated in the world. The queen's architect, Senenmut, designed it and set it at the head of a valley overshadowed by the Peak of the Thebes, the "Lover of Silence," where lived the goddess who presided over the necropolis. a tree lined avenue of sphinxes led up to the temple, and ramps led from terrace to terrace. The porticoes on the lowest terrace are out of proportion and coloring with the rest of the building. P.M. Sail to Esna. Cross the lock. Sail to Edfu and visit Edfu Temple by horse-drawn carriages The Temple of Edfu The major Ptolemaic temple of Edfu is the bestpreserved major temple in Egypt. it is dedicated to the falcon god Horus and was built over a 180- year period from 237 BC to 57 BC, the temple was excavated last century by Auguste Mariette. Its courtyard and surrounds were buried beneath sand and also houses built by local villagers. Deep within the temple is the sanctuary where a statue of Horus would have been cared for by priests. 9 3rd Day: Edfu /Kom Ombo / Aswan A.M. Visit the temple of Horus in Edfu. Sail to Kom Ombo. P.M. Visit the temple shared by the two Gods Sobek and Haroeris. Sail to Aswan and overnight. Kom Ombo Temple The unusual double temple built during the Ptolemaic and Roman periods. The temple is dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Haroeris (Horus the Elder). Despite being badly damaged, the temple is a beautiful sight as one approach from either direction on the river, particularly as sunset nears and the colors change. Long ago, crocodiles probably sunned themselves on an island nearby, today; there are no crocodiles to be seen - except for some mummified ones on display at the temple complex. Return to the Nile Cruise and lunch while sailing from Kom Ombo to Aswan and overnight 4th Day: Aswan A.M. Visit of the High Dam and the temple of Philae. P.M. View of the Elephantine Island by felucca (sailing boat) and view of the Agha Khan Mausoleum. Overnight in Aswan. Buffet breakfast in hotel Aswan, Egypt's sunniest southern city and ancient frontier town located about 890 km south of Cairo, it has a distinctively African atmosphere. It is the starting and ending point of Nile cruises today. In ancient times, Aswan was known as Syene, the southern border of Pharaonic Egypt. Syene was the center of trade between Egypt, adjoining Nubia and the rest of southern Africa. Morning visit to the High Dam & Philae Temple High Dam Located near Aswan, the world famous High Dam was an engineering miracle when it was built in the 1960s. Today it provides irrigation and electricity for the whole of Egypt together with the old Aswan Dam that was built by the British between 1898 and 1902`, 6km down river, two Mile long High Dam you can gaze across Lake Nassar, the huge reservoir created when it was built, to Kalabsha temple in the south and the huge power station to the north.
