2 PAGE 2 VIEW DATES, PRICES & BOOK YOUR HOLIDAY HERE Introduction Concentrating on a small corner of Canada we have created a family adventure holiday, which gives you the true Canadian experience without having to drive for thousands of miles with the kids! Starting in Vancouver we have BBQ's on the beach, look for otters and seals, kayaking, canoeing, a visit to the Capilano suspension bridge and climb aboard the mine train and travel through the tunnels - and this is just in the first few days! We transfer to Squamish and enjoy a couple of days here with some short walks and day in Whistler to zoom up the gondola or paddle on the lake. We also walk The Chief' in Squamish before taking the ferry to beautiful Vancouver Island. Here we see 800yr old Douglas Firs, check out some caves and enjoy scenic walks. Our highlight is the bear watching tour from the safety of a boat whilst darting in and out of the inlets. Truly amazing. Further optional activities such as whale watching, surfing, fishing and biking are also available in the Pacific Rim National Park. In Victoria we can visit the first Nations museum and see their colourful art before we take the ferry back to Vancouver. This holiday gives you a great sense of adventure, the wildlife, wilderness and of what Canada is about. There is no need for endless driving, just a great itinerary and the beauty of the country will charm you and your family. It's totally awesome! Explore International. This holiday is part of our Explore International range. Participants on these trips can book through KE or through one of our international partners. This helps us to gather together sufficient numbers of like-minded adventurers to get your holiday up and running quickly. Led by an English-speaking guide, the cosmopolitan nature of these groups can be an important part of the experience! Is this holiday for you? Suitable for children from 6 yrs old This is a jam packed holiday full of activities and adventure. It is designed to ensure that you and your family see the best of British Columbia and enjoy some truly Canadian experiences. If you wish to take part in any of the water based activities you must be able to swim. All activities are suitable for beginners and children. The longest walk is an easy and gentle 4hrs. Camping in Canada can be great fun, and there is a really sense of being on holiday. All campsites have BBQ areas and usually a large space for the children to run around in or relax. The settings are also beautiful and it takes us away from the centre of towns. The Canadians love the outdoors and are very good at taking every opportunity to be canoeing on a lake, having a cycle ride, going for a walk and enjoying the wildlife and stunning scenery. We soak up this atmosphere and you will find it easy travelling with your family in this country, especially on this great itinerary which does not cover too much distance, allowing us to be more active and have more fun! Holiday Itinerary Day 1: Meet at the group hotel in Vancouver. A single transfer from Vancouver Airport is provided. Meet at the group hotel in Vancouver. A single timed transfer is included from the airport to the hotel. KE Land Only package services begin with the overnight stay at the hotel in Vancouver.

3 PAGE 3 GITE / HOSTEL Day 2: Explore Vancouver: Stanley Park, the Aquarium, walk or kayak at Deep Cove. BBQ on beach. Today we explore Vancouver. We start with a walk in Stanley Park, through the old growth forest and seeing the colourfully painted totem poles of Canada s First Nation people. This park is a magnificent green oasis in the midst of the urban landscape of Vancouver. We then visit Vancouver Aquarium, giving us a good insight to the wildlife we may see in the wild over the next week. It is the largest aquarium in Canada with an amazing 50,000 animals! It prides itself on the highest possible standards and all profits go to conservation of aquatic life. In the afternoon we travel to Deep Cove where we eat some of Canada s best doughnuts (yum) before either hiking along the shores or having an optional beginners sea kayaking or First Nation Canoe tour. On the optional guided kayak tour we explore Deep Cove on the calm waters in the fjord we may see harbour seals, eagles and colourful starfish. The kayaking is suitable for beginners and children, and full basics are taught before entering the water. The first Nation Canoe tour is run by the Tsleil-Waututh people, and takes us in a 25 ft traditional style ocean-going canoe whilst our guides share legends, songs and stories. We finish the day with a BBQ on the beach. Return to Vancouver hotel. GITE / HOSTEL Day 3: Capilano Suspension Bridge, Porteau Cove walk, mining museum, transfer to Squamish. This morning takes us to the Capilano Suspension Bridge. This 70m high bridge has thrilled visitors since 1889m, and whilst this wobbly bridge is fun to cross, there is a lot more here to see. We can enjoy a treetop adventure with high platforms and bridges, which have interpretive signs providing us with history, culture and environmental gems as we walk. There is also an exciting new cliff walkway. We then transfer to Porteau Cove for a short walk and where we may see seals bobbing their heads up in the waters. Next is our visit to the Britannia Beach Museum were we board a little miners train which takes us into an authentic tunnel. Of course no visit is complete without some gold panning and we all have the chance to take home some real gold! We then transfer to Squamish (approx 30 mins) where we find our campsite and set up camp for the first night. Day 4: Morning walk at Cheakamus Lake. Afternoon in Whistler. After breakfast at camp we set off for a morning walk (2hrs) at Cheakamus Lake to discover the ancient volcano and crater. This flat walk is perfect as it delivers some great scenery with the fantastic colours of the glacially fed turquoise waters surrounded by high mountains and forest. The afternoon we have at leisure in Whistler. There are many activities to choose from including swimming, paddle board or canoeing in the lake, a mountain bike ride, taking the gondola ride to the tops for a walk or simply walking around Whistler Village. Day 5: Walk up the Stawamus Chief (700m). Ferry to Vancouver Island. Our walk today is 3-4 hours and takes us to the Stawamus Chief - or simply known as The Chief. This 700m granite dome towers is said to be the second largest granite monolith in the world. The First Nation people of this area consider the Chief to be a place of spiritual significance. There are many routes to the top, and we take the easiest. We pass Shannon Falls where the water tumbles from more than 330m above. On the route there are some

4 PAGE 4 section where we have to scramble over large boulders with the help of some chains and ropes, but there is no exposure or difficulty, just a fun walk. From the peak we have scenic views of Howe Sound and the town of Squamish below. We then transfer to Horseshoe Bay from where we take the late afternoon, 1hr 40min ferry crossing to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. From here we drive to our campsite at Qualicum beach (total transfer time, including ferry 3.5hrs). Day 6: Caves at Horne Lake. Drive to Tofino via the giant Douglas Firs. It s off to visit the caves at Horne Lake this morning. In the caverns we see beautiful crystal formations and ancient fossils. The chambers that we explore involve squeezing, crawling and climbing up narrow passages, great fun! We appear from the caves and enjoy a picnic lunch by the lake. We then take the scenic drive to Tofino, stopping of at Cathedral Grove with its giant 800 yr old Douglas fir trees. These are one of the most accessible stand of the giant Douglas fir trees and we can stroll along the network of trails under the shadow of these towering ancient trees. Tofino is located on the southern shores of Vancouver Island surrounded by picturesque bays and inlets. Day 7: Bear, whale and seal watching wildlife tour from a boat in the Pacific Rim National Park. We have the next 2 days exploring the fabulous Pacific Rim National Park. Our highlight will be our included bear watching tour. This 2-2.5hrs tour is from a boat, so we can explore the inlets giving us great opportunities to find the bears in their natural habitat. To observe bears feeding and interacting in their natural habitat without us disturbing them is an incredible experience. The skippers are passionate professionals and can often recognise individual bears by their behaviour. The tours are dependent on low tides, so timings vary daily. We prefer to leave just before low tide so we have the best possible opportunities to spend as much time wildlife viewing. During the low tide the rocky shorelines are exposed, providing a smorgasbord of shellfish, seaweed and crustaceans for the bears to feast on! We may also see other wildlife foraging, if we are super lucky the Grey wolf or mink. But more likely are the harbour seals relaxing on the rocks, seabirds and eagles, and possibly a whale. We are provided with dry suits to keep us warm and toasty whilst on the boat. It s going to be great! Return to campsite at Tofino. Day 8: Day at Pacific Rim National Park. Options for surfing, boogie boards or coastal walks. A further day in Pacific Rim National Park and we have the option of several different activities. We can go on a fishing trip or enjoy a guided rain forest walk, a whale watching trip or the keen can opt for a surfing lesson (age 13yrs+) or rent boogie boards (wet suits essential)! There are also self-guided walks along the coastal trails including the tidal pools at Chesterman s Beach. There is something for everyone. At the end of the day we will roast wieners (sausages) and marshmallows on our fire at the beach and fly our kites. Return to campsite at Tofino. Day 9: Drive to Victoria, stopping at Coombs Country Market.

5 PAGE 5 En route to Victoria today we stop at a picturesque fishing village and possibly the Coombs Country Market where the goats graze happily on the roof of a village cafe. Tonight we camp on the outskirts of Victoria. Time allowing we can travel into Victoria and get a feel for this friendly town. Day 10: Free day in Victoria for optional activities like whale watching, bike ride or just explore Victoria. There are many opportunities and options for activities and adventure today! If we haven t taken a whale watching tour already we can do this today, or have a ghost city tour, or maybe bike the Galloping Goose Trail, a 3-4hr easy biking route. Of course we can just relax and explore Victoria, which has an interesting First Nations museum as well. There is also an IMAX cinema which runs a 45 mins film throughout the day and a butterfly museum. The options are endless! Return to campground. Day 11: Ferry back to Vancouver. Afternoon at Granville Island. Dinner in historic Vancouver. We take the 1hr 35min ferry back to Vancouver. The afternoon takes us to Granville Island. This is a haven for children with a kids market, not your usual plastic stuff but quality locally made goods. There is an array of cafes and an extensive play area with water sprays, water slides and general fun. Adults enjoy a picnic on the surrounding grass whilst supervising! We enjoy a celebratory evening meal in the historic Gas Town of Vancouver. GITE / HOSTEL MEALS BL Day 12: Departure day. KE Land Only package services end after breakfast. 10 PAGE 10 Climate The weather in the Canadian Rocky Mountains is ever-changing and always unpredictable. Summer days are long, but the summer season is short. July is the warmest month with a mean daily maximum temperature of 22 C. We can expect to encounter temperatures during the day ranging from 18 C. to 27 C. Naturally, at the higher elevations on our trip, the daytime temperatures will be lower than this. At night, the temperatures will typically drop to around 10 C. Although the weather is relatively stable at this time of year, we can expect some rainfall and mountains produce their own weather. Flight Information Flight Inclusive Or Land Only? On our website we display a UK Flight inclusive package price and Land only package price for the majority of our holidays. Flight Inclusive Notes The FLIGHT INCLUSIVE dates and prices are based on UK flights from London (Gatwick) to Vancouver with Air Transat. Outbound flights will depart from the UK in the morning, arriving the morning of the same day (day 1 of the Land Only itinerary). Return flights will depart in the early afternoon of the last day of the itinerary, arriving in the UK the following morning. Regional departures and/or alternative carriers are available on request. Please be aware that there are often only a limited number of seats available at the advertised price. To avoid paying flight supplements, we recommend that you book as early as possible, especially during peak times. If we are unable to secure seats at the price shown, or you have requested regional departures, we will contact you with an alternative quote. Please note that you may be asked to pay for your flights in advance of your final holiday balance. If you book a package including flights with KE you will benefit from full financial protection. Land Only Notes The LAND ONLY dates and prices are for the itinerary joining in Vancouver. For clients making their own flight arrangements, Vancouver is the most convenient for transfers to the group hotel. Please refer to 'Joining Arrangements and Transfers' for further details.
