3 ABOUT US The Aurora Borealis Observatory is a small family driven resort located at Senja Island in Northern Norway. The resort was founded in 2018 and are owned and operated by Anders Hanssen and Kristine Kjosnes, who live on location. It is safe to say that we love the aurora and we feel lucky and blessed being able to live at such prime location. This place is for those who really want to experience nature, silence and to get total relaxation while hopefully enjoying the amazing Aurora Borealis. We have our own small and family driven resort, The Aurora Borealis Observatory and our specialisation is 100% focus of enjoying the Aurora Dance. Our guides have many years of experience and knowledge and will teach you how to create the best possible photo- and videography at our workshops. While staying here you can also explore the beauty and culture of Senja Island, and do different activities during day and night. All of our apartments have a big glass front, directed toward an amazing view. You can sit inside the apartment or in our outdoor relaxed area and jacuzzi, and enjoy the amazing Aurora Dance. In pursuit of the good Northern Lights experiences for many years, I have now attempted to create a small but adapted place for our guests to experience the Northern Lights in the same way as us who live here in the cold north. 4 AURORA BOREALIS OBSERVATORY One of the best locations in the world for aurora observations The place for those with Aurora on the bucket list. Stay on location with amazing view towards the aurora dance Why not have a comfortable wait up here at our small family run resort. Participate in all the wonderful activities during the day and enjoy the Northern Lights in the evening. We LOVE the aurora and are only open during aurora seaszon It is difficult to predict which month is better than others, but from September to the end of March you have a pretty good chance of seeing the Aurora Dance. The resort are only open from September to mid April as we really love the aurora ourselves. No need to chase the Aurora Borealis from the inside of a car/bus If you don t want a classic aurora chase sitting 6-8 hours in a car then this is the place for you. You are already in one of the best aurora locations in the world. If you love the Northern Lights and want to see them, then this is the place to be! 5 GLASS PANORAMA While waiting you can enjoy our big glass panoramic waiting area. Here you will have a 270 degree viewing angle towards all aurora directions. One of the reasons we made this panorama was to make sure our guests doesn t miss out on the aurora dance - this is also one of the places where we have classes in photography and post processing with Adrian Mauduit. LOUNGE The lounge (restaurant) area is built inside an old goat farm. This is a very unique area where you will have breakfast. Some days when fully booked we serve dinner as well. Here you will find peace. Buildings like this is not something you can experience many places in the world. The lounge is equipped with a fully-stocked kitchen, and alcohol allowance. TIPI Our tipi can seat about 50 people. It is winter insulated, heated and has two ovens. We have built it in order to be able to enjoy all weather conditions. Smoke goes up with its own pipe, which means that you never get smell of campfire on your clothes. The building is a modernization from the Sami culture and we are very proud of it. Enjoy culture in a comfy way. Jacuzzi Area We can never guarantee the weather or the northern lights and there is often a lot of waiting time. Therefore, we have designed waiting areas that are as comfortable as possible. In our outdoor area you can enjoy your wait in a warm and comfortable environment. There is also room for about 20 people in our jacuzzis for those who want a spa-like experience. Aurora Borealis Observatory ӏ 5

6 OUR APARTMENTS & SERVICES Experience the Northern Lights here at our small family driven resort - the Aurora Borealis Observatory One of few places where you can enjoy the aurora directly from the apartment window. No need to go chasing the lights as you are on location. Panoramic View All of our apartments have panoramic view towards the spectacular Aurora Dance. One Bedroom The bedroom has a queen size bed, but can be organized as two single beds. We have a convertible sofa bed for the children in the living room. Bathroom High standard bathroom equipped with hairdryer in all apartments. Fully equipped kitchen All of our apartments have a fully equipped kitchen, with a Nespresso coffee machine and a water boiler. The Nespresso capsules and tea is included in the apartment price. Children for free / Family Option Traveling as a family? We have a convertible sofa bed for the children in the living room. Normally we allow maximum three people per apartment, but we allow four people when you travel with kids. High Speed WiFi We have fiber cable (high speed internet, 500/500) in all the apartments. Breakfast Included In our barn you get a simple breakfast (no warm dishes) We normally open the breakfast around 9am. Some nights when there is high aurora activity breakfast open later so you get enough sleep Perfect for two people Our apartments are not big, but we focus on the amazing view and great standard so you can have the best experience possible. Included Activities / Warm Clothing Skiing (cross-country), Snowshoeing and sledding in a toboggan run is always included. We prepare our own slopes and this is suitable for everyone. Borrow coveralls and sleds for free. Shuttle service Our shuttle cars will take you to the city for shopping and other activities. Shuttle service is included in the price. International menu Order your dinner from all the restaurants in the city and have it delivered directly to your apartment. The delivery cost is included in the apartment price Selfie under the aurora / Photo Workshops If you want a photo under the aurora as a memory our guide, Adrien will make this happen - At least as long as weather play along with us. 9 LOCATION Far north of the Arctic Circle lies Senja, the fairytale island, where the majestic Northern Light and beautiful nature is located. Senja is Norway s second largest island, close to Tromsø City and only five hours from spectacular Lofoten. You are welcomed by an impressive blend of sea, mountains and beaches. The coast of the island has sculptural mountains and colourful fishing villages in sheltered coves. The nature is full of contrasts depending on the season, with the midnight sun and the Northern Light. HOW TO GET HERE AIRPORTS Travel to Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL) from your destination. From Oslo Airport you can travel to Bardufoss Airport (BDU) or Tromsø Airport (TOS). We recommend that you travel to Bardufoss Airport with Norwegian Airlines since it is closer to the hotel. BARDUFOSS AIRPORT TRANSFER If you arrive at Bardufoss Airport, take the shuttle bus to the bus terminal. There is one shuttle bus for every arrival and you buy your ticket on the bus. We will pick you up at the bus terminal, which is included in the price. This is a 1 hour and 15 minute drive. TROMSØ AIRPORT TRANSFER If you arrive in Tromsø you can also easily arrange a tour with the express boat going from Tromsø to Finnsnes. This is a very easy solution and a very scenic route. 10 ARRIVAL / DEPARTURE ARRIVAL Pickup from Bus station to the observatory is included for all guests. After landing in Bardufoss Airport you go outside and find the white shuttle Bus - FLYBUSSEN - tell the driver that you are going to final stop which is BEST SILSAND (where we pick you up) - and then go back in to get your luggage. *Shuttle bus cost from Bardufoss airport (BDU) to the bus station is not included. *Please make sure to give us a call, message or on arrival day so we know that you will be on schedule. DEPARTURE Transportation from the observatory to the Bus station is also included on departure day. There is one shuttle to each departure in Bardufoss Airport so you will always get back to the airport in good time for your flight. *Shuttle bus cost from bus station to airport is not included. 13 PRACTICAL INFO WIFI Hotel Guest is open and superfast. WATER Water from the tap taste delicious and is 100% safe to drink. SHOWER Water boiler is based on a reheating system, but remember that you can t shower unlimited. Hot water will eventually become very cold and please help us save the environment. TOWELS We change towels after 2 days. We try to be nice to our environment. SHOES Please take off shoes in the apartments as it gets dirty and damages materials if not. MAIDEN SERVICE Our maid will make up beds and clean rooms now and then (not every day). We will fill up paper sheets and toilet paper if needed. WAITING AREAS Feel free to use the glass panorama, barn, jacuzzi area and the TIPI. *Please tell us so we can turn up heat in TIPI. MEALS BREAKFAST 09:00 12:00 (Included). LUNCH Self cook, eat in the city centre or while on tour. DINNER Self cook, go to a restaurant or take out. Take out needs to be ordered by 6pm. You order food via Adrien or Anders. *We will let you know who is in charge from day to day. DAILY SHUTTLE TO THE CITY CENTRE Every day there is a included shuttle / transportation from the resort to the city centre (15 minutes away from the resort). You can go to the shopping malls to pick up groceries, snack etc. Departure and arrival will vary a bit from day to day depending on activities. Normal time for departure will be around and pickup at the city centre for return, will normally be between AURORA BOREALIS The location is actually one of the best locations in the world for aurora observations. Weather we cant control, but we have a micro climate that makes the location very good for aurora observations. Because of this we dont need to go chasing as the weather is normally worse at other nearby locations if it is bad at our place. This is the place to go if you seek silence and relaxation. 14 ACTIVITIES At the Aurora Borealis Observatory we are specialized in the Northern Lights experience. Our location is one of the best locations in the world for Aurora observations. The Aurora is something you experience and observe in the evening and night time.however, there is a lot to do on our wonderful island even when the Northern Lights do not dance over the sky. Most of the activities are offered through local providers that we cooperate with, while certain activities are organized by us. We recommend you book your activities after your arrival because of the varying weather conditions we experience throughout the year. ACTIVITY INFORMATION PRICE Senja Island Round Trip Husky Tours Plan a tour around Senja Island. This is a amazing experience both day and night. We offer this as a day time activity most days but if conditions are good we do it night time as well (different price night time). Visit Senja Husky, only 10 minutes away from the resort. Experience dog sledding, hiking trips, and puppy visiting with 30+ siberian huskies. Fits families, couples and individual visitors NOK pp 1600 NOK pp Husky Home Visit Go visit the huskies over at Senja husky and take part when the dogs run free. If you are lucky you might see when they are fed as well. 590 NOK pp Mountain Hikes Senja is a paradise for mountain hikers and you can enjoy a spectacular view of the fjords and coastal shores. There are many hiking options, both for experienced hikers and beginners NOK pp Skiin / Snowshoeing Step into the cross country slope directly outside your apartment. On this tour you will be driving both on and off-road, the latter can be somewhat challenging. Before setting off, you will receive a thorough instructions on how to operate the vehicle. You will drive with one or two passengers in addition to the guide. You will be able to switch places during the trip, so everyone gets the opportunity to drive. Before driving into the deep snow you must deflate the tyre pressure, this widens the tyre surface and increases the vehicle's ability to float on the snow. Note: If you can drive a normal car, you can drive an Arctic Truck. All you need is a regular driving license and a sense of adventure. The ocean is fundamental to Senja Island culture and kayaking is a great way to experience it in the Arctic Maldives.
