Price: 2500 It is great to walk in Denmark and many of us Danes still have great holiday experiences in our own country. On the South Funen island lies the archipelago and waits. A 220 km long hiking trail that leads you through some of the most beautiful scenery Denmark has to offer. Take a walk on the Archipelago Trail between Faaborg and Svendborg. This part of the route leads you through the exciting natural and cultural landscapes, in the southern part of Funen. You walk through old cozy trading ports and idyllic little villages. The landscape varies as you walk over hills, across marshes, through green forests, past manors and over meadows, with spectacular views of the South Funen archipelago. We have found good, hospitable accommodation for you to overnight, and includes breakfast which is served by your hosts. 2 DAY-TO-DAY PROGRAM Day 1: Arrival in Faaborg The tour starts in Faaborg, where you will check into your accommodation. If you arrive early, we recommend looking around the cozy old harbor and market town with the fine old houses, medieval ports and the relaxed atmosphere. The town is rich in craftsmen, of which Faaborg Museum houses a collection of fine Funen painters. Day 2: From Faaborg to Fjællebroen The days walking is from Faaborg to Fjællelebroen. Along the way, you pass the village of Diernæs where there is a large fieldstone house with a high thatched roof in the middle of the village. The house was built by the baron at Holstenshuus and served as a retreat for the city's poor. The houses and farms in Diernæs belonged to the estate and the residents worked for the baron. Holstenshuus is one of Denmark's newest manor houses (built in 1908 after a fire). You continue through both forest and open countryside, past Nakkebølle Lake on an inlet of Nakkebølle fjord, which is rich in birdlife, and continue further along the coast to Fjællelebroen marina. Fjællebroen was previously a port of disembarkation for timber in the area and was constructed by the Rødkilde Estate. The trail goes quite close to a beautiful farmhouse where you are accommodated in a comfortable B&B. Enjoy the view from the terrace or have a swim before your hosts offer a nice 2-course evening menu (17 km). 3 Day 3: From Fjællebroen to Vester Skerninge The trail today continues along the coast and passes Ringgaard. Here you can be lucky to find old flint relics that have been washed on land. These old flint relics are derived from former settlements, which now lie underwater at a depth of 2-3 meters. You go back inland through Syltemade Ådal, where a 20-meterdeep gorge was formed at the end of the last ice age. Continue down through the valley, where you can almost forget that you are not in the wilderness. The path leads on to the town Vester Skerninge with the most beautiful old timber-framed inn, located quite close to the church and the unique village environment. Accommodation at the inn (11 km). Day 4: From Vester Skerninge to Svendborg From Vester Skerninge the route goes to Egebjerg hills. You pass the beautiful Hvidkilde Manor and Hvidkilde Lake. The lake is the largest of several lakes in the subglacial valley tunnel, west of Svendborg. The area is rich in birdlife, with graylag geese, herons and crested grebe. Under the Svendborg Strait Bridge you pass the church of St. Jørgens, where the chapel formerly housed lepers. The church was in former centuries outside the town ramparts and assisted in isolating the sick from the townspeople. The tour ends in Svendborg after 22 kilometers of hiking. If you want to be in good time before your return trip, Vagabond Tours recommends an overnight stay in the old market town. Svendborg was built at the bottom of a small cove in the strait between Funen and Tåsinge in the first part of the 12 th century. There are many fine timbered houses preserved from the city's prosperity days as a seafaring community and market town. Svendborg is today the capital city of the South Funen Island and has several ferry connections. There is good shopping, numerous galleries and cafés as well as a varied selection of restaurants (22 km). 4 ACCOMMODATION During the tour you will walk to a new place of accommodation every day. You stay in a double room at a local hotel in Faaborg, in a comfortable B&B and in a nice old inn. At the hotel and the inn, the rooms have their own bathroom and toilet. At the B&B, the rooms have shared bathroom and toilet. Common to all accommodations, it is a good host, who will do their best for you to have a good stay. An optional extra night in Svendborg after the tour can be requested when booking the tour. Single rooms can be booked for an additional fee. CATERING The tour is inclusive of breakfast together with your overnight stay. Lunch and dinner are at your own expense. However, dinner is included at the B&B at Fjellelebroen. We can recommend eating out in the evening. Lunch can be ordered at the accommodation, or you can buy a picnic at the local grocery store. If you choose to order a packed lunch at the accommodation, be sure to give the kitchen a message before the evening (picnic package is paid locally). It is stipulated in the daily program which meals are included or not included in the price of the trip. (Breakfast/Lunch /Dinner). WALKS The days walks are between 11 and 22 km and can be carried out by anyone in normal good shape and with the desire and willingness for hiking. They are not technically difficult, but you sleep well after a 22 km day hike. The daily-to-day program indicates the number of kilometers per day. This is an approx. indication as the number of kilometers per day depends on which accommodation is reserved for you and how close to / far from the route it is. Your luggage will be driven to the next place of accommodation, so you only carry a small backpack with the items you need for the days walk, such as lunch pack, beverages, rainwear, camera etc. HOW TO GET THERE The tour starts in Faaborg. You must make sure to get to the starting point of the trip (by public transport or private car). The walk starts from your place of accommodation. If you arrive by car you may. choose to park the car in Svendborg (where the trip ends) and from there take a bus to Faaborg, where the trip starts. Start: The walk starts in Faaborg End: The walk ends in Svendborg (after about 22 km). There are trains to the whole country from Svendborg See You can extend your trip with an overnight stay in Svendborg.

5 THE ARCHIPELAGO TRAIL The archipelago was opened in 2007, and with its 220 kilometers one of Denmark's longest hiking routes. The route goes through beautiful natural areas, along the coasts, past the castles and manor houses and close to pleasant village environments. It offers great panoramic views of the South Funen archipelago, strung like pearls of lovely Danish cultural and natural landscapes.
