NO 2 exceedence is an issue for London and the UK as a whole

Modelled NO 2 concentrations & 2014 measured values EU limit value (does not apply at LHR2) *Sites are operated by Heathrow/Local Authorities/Environment Agency and are part of the national monitoring network with the exception of LHR2 Monitoring sites around Heathrow* Above EU Limit Within EU Limit; low data capture Under EU Limit On-airport site; workplace HSE Limits apply

2013 Source Apportionment for NOx

Heathrow first published an Air Quality Strategy & Action Plan in 2000 and in 2014 published an additional target to reduce ground-based NOx emissions through Responsible Heathrow

The Heathrow Emissions Blueprint is a 10 point plan to reduce Heathrow s NOx emissions in 2015 Supplements existing Air Quality Action Plan with a compelling and stretched commitment Focuses on the four major sources of ground-based NOx emissions from the airport: Aircraft (70%) Surface access (17.6%) Vehicles airside (8.4%) Heating plant (4%) Action #6 focused on working collaboratively with local partners- West London Air Quality Roadmap

Comparison of NO x emissions from 2008/9 to 2013 Airport Source category 2008/9 (tonnes NO x ) 2013 (tonnes NO x ) Difference (%) Aircraft- elevated a Aircraft ground level b Airport vehicles (GSE) Road network c Heating plant Other d Total ground-based Non-Airport Road traffic e a From wheels off to 1000m above ground (departure) and from 1000m to touchdown (arrival) b Including taxiing, APU, and engine testing emissions c Total for emissions from airport-related trips on major road network within the 9kmx 9km rectangular study area d Includes car parking and fire training emissions e Total for non-airport related trips within the 11km x 11km major road network area f The airport-related/non-airport split is not available for road network emissions for 2008/9; for the purposes of this table they have been split in the same proportion as 2013

Heathrow Expansion and Air Quality

Airports Commission assessment findings Commission has confirmed that the Heathrow North West Runway scheme can progress within air quality limits provided mitigation measures are implemented. Overall compliance: The scheme will not affect UK compliance with national emissions ceilings set by the EU; There are no predicted exceedences of the air quality objective at any receptor, either in the do-minimum or Heathrow NWR scenarios ; The scheme would not cause any new exceedences of the annual mean NO2 concentration at which the EU limit value is set. (EU limit value 40µg/m3 annual mean);

Managing Air Quality Effects of the Masterplan Physical Mitigation: Airfield Efficiency: Minimise distances between runways, taxiways, aprons and stands = lower emissions; Surface Access Strategy: Avoid sensitive receptors; and No more road traffic than today. Operational Mitigation: Cleaner aircraft technology (98% CAEP/6 compliant by 2030); Cleaner aircraft operations in the sky (thresholds and glide slopes) Cleaner aircraft operations on the ground (A-CDM, FEGP, PCA) Cleaner airside vehicles (fully ULEV airside vehicle fleet); and Airport Surface Access Strategy (>50% Public Transport, CCharge).

Our plans place Heathrow at the heart of the transport network transforming rail connectivity Key Direct Onward Proposed 2013: 18 trains per hour 5,000 seats per hour 2030: 36 trains per hour 13,000 seats per hour

We will continue to innovate with sustainable travel, reduce staff car parking and make more efficient use of taxis

Expanding our bus network and the free travel zone to provide easier access for local communities and our workforce
