3 Attendance

4 Meetings Generally the first Tuesday of every month except August from 7.30pm Prior to every meeting, and for up to 10 minutes if required, members of the public are invited to bring any matters to the attention of the Council. Thereafter they may listen to Councillors debate at their meeting. In August we (normally) do a walk around the village as a group. This is useful for highlighting any problems (potholes in pavements, overhanging trees, problems with notice boards, the village signs, etc)

7 What have we done this year? Some of your Parish Council s activities Continued to review all planning applications in Barton. Discussed improvements to cycle paths, especially safety issues (ongoing). Responded to Boundary Commission change proposals (County and District). Supported the Queen s 90 th birthday street party (in June) see later. Maintained the relationship with other necklace villages. Supported the replacement of Six Houses bus shelter (more later). Received a grant for a new Village Hall projector. Kept the Leys, football pitches, playground etc in good order. Discussed a report on fish in the pond at Conkers. Started to discuss transfer of land from Church Close to the Church.

8 What have we done this year? (cont.) Continued to discuss the old Village Pump in Wimpole Road. Reviewed tree safety (we are responsible for those on public land). Investigated possible condensation in the phone box library. Discussed a possible awning at the Pavilion, for Bowls Club members etc. Paid for some of the moles to be killed at the bowling green. Discussed the state of the Cambridge Road bus shelter. Set up an Affordable Housing working party. Sarah Thomas organised training in use of the Defibrillator. Started discussions on a possible Fitness Trail for adults. Proposed an unsung village hero for a reward (more later).

9 What have we done this year? (cont.) Achieved the Quality Award, a step up from the previous Foundation level, as part of the national Local Council Award Scheme. Congratulations, and thanks, to our Clerk Patrick De Backer The Quality Award demonstrates that a council achieves good practice in governance, community engagement and council improvement. Quality councils go above and beyond their legal obligations, leading their communities and continuously seeking opportunities to improve and develop even further.

10 What have we done this year? (cont.) The Village Hall is now connected to the internet. Currently a standard connection, but to be upgraded to fibre shortly. Paid for by the Parish Council. Thanks to the Clemos, Margaret Penston and Barbara Tomes for their assistance. Code 46d389e868

11 What have we done this year? (cont.) A new projector and screen will be installed this week, for use by village groups. The projector will connect to the Village Hall sound system and to presenters computers. It will be capable of showing films as well as slide shows. Thanks to Barbara Tomes and Margaret Penston for their grant application. Thanks to Dulverton Trust for generously funding this project, to the tune of 2,075.

12 What have we done this year? (cont.) The Skate Ramp was resurfaced, at a cost of 3,886. The old wooden surface was unsafe and causing splinters. It may need further attention as rivets popped out (repaired by John Boocock). This may be a problem, as our supplier is in dispute with their materials supplier.

13 What have we done this year? (cont.) Barbara Tomes noticed that the roundabout was damaged, during a routine playground inspection. Thanks to John Boocock, it has now been repaired, using oak which should last for a while. One old friend repairing another old friend! A complete overhaul may be needed (of the roundabout, not John Boocock!)

14 What have we done this year? (cont.) We now have a new crossing at The White Horse, after a long period of delays and negotiations with Cambridgeshire Highways. For cost reasons, this could not be a zebra or Pelican crossing, but a marked crossing at that point should make crossing the road safer. We pay 1,000 of the estimated total cost of 11,000.

15 What have we done this year? (cont.) More importantly, we now also have a new crossing at Barton School. This again came after long delays and negotiations. The scheme includes 20mph flashing signs, a dropped crossing and double-yellow lines. Thanks to Sarah Thomas for all her hard work in making this happen, and to all the others who contributed. We pay 8,000 of the estimated total cost of 13,000. Thanks to Burwash Manor for their generous donation of 4,000.

16 What have we done this year? (cont.) The cycle path along the A603, between High Street and New Road, has been resurfaced, at a cost of around 100,000. We also have a dropped crossing near the bottom of New Road, away from the A603 junction, to make crossing safer. We agreed this with Cambridgeshire Highways. The path between New Road and Cambridge is subject to a number of negotiations with Cambridgeshire Highways, the City Deal, Cambridge Cycling Campaign and others. We are particularly keen on safety improvements at the M11 junction and over the M11 bridge.

17 What have we done this year? (cont.) The bus shelter opposite Six Houses in Comberton Road has been replaced, at a cost of 2,000. The project was masterminded by John Boocock. It was funded by the District Council with additional funding from Perennial, Arbory Trust and the Parish Council. Thanks to Foxcotte, the Peppers (thatchers), Steve Loveridge, D Dodds and others, labour and materials were provided free or at a considerably reduced rate. Many thanks to all involved to a wonderful addition to our lovely village.

21 Some complaints and requests this year (mostly dealt with by our hardworking Clerk) Commuter parking in New Road lay-by, and on the Rec. Dog fouling in Hines Close, and on the Rec. Parking at top of High Street making crossing difficult. Debris on the permissive footpath at rear of Kings Grove. Dog bite incident on the Rec. Concerns about safety at the Rifle Range. Blocked drains outside 90 & 96 High Street. Untidy hedge at Mailes Close. Slip road usage at Haslingfield Road. Loud music from The Hoops. Unsatisfactory Lords Bridge path.

22 Some complaints and requests this year (mostly dealt with by our hardworking Clerk) Cutting of hedge behind Allens Close houses. Request for 20mph speed limit in New Road. Request for a change in voting procedures naming councillors. Request to close Rec gate overnight decided not to recommended it. Cows loose in New Road. Fallen tree, after Storm Doris. Poor surface of Kings Grove path. Thanks to John Boocock for repairs. Blocked gullies. Reported regularly to Cambridgeshire Highways.

24 Elections 2017 Candidates have started canvassing for the County Councillor election on 4th May 2017, under the new boundaries. The Hardwick Ward is now Barton, Caldecote, Comberton, Coton, Grantchester, Great Eversden, Harlton, Hardwick, Kingston, Little Eversden, Madingley and Toft parishes Philip Allen (Liberal Democrats) Norman Crowther (Labour) Candidates: Anna Serena Gomori-Woodcock (Green) Lina Maria Joseph (Conservative)

Thanks for my fellow Parish Councillors for the long hours that they spend in meetings, when they could be at home with their families.
