We will also be joined by Mary Elizabeth Wilson MD, adjunct professor of global health and population, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She has traveled extensively in Asia and Latin America, including teaching projects in Peru and Brazil.

During a day at sea, watch the crew trim the sails while cruising to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, with its mix of Victorian and Spanish Colonial influences. In Costa Rica, swim at Playa del Coco on the Nicoya Peninsula, look out for colorful quetzals at El Silencio de Los Angeles Cloud Forest Reserve, and spend a night in cosmopolitan San José. 4 Sailing the Panama Canal Colón to Puntarenas Aboard Sea Cloud II February 20 - March 3, 2017 MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20: DEPART FROM U.S. / COLON, PANAMA Depart the U.S. and arrive in the early afternoon in Panama City.Transfer to Colón, on the Caribbean Sea, where Sea Cloud II awaits. Enjoy a champagne toast as we set sail in the early evening. D TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21: CANAL TRANSIT / BALBOA, PANAMA Experience a daytime transit through the man-made lakes and three sets of locks that comprise the 48-mile-long Panama Canal. In the early evening arrive in Panama City s port of Balboa, located on the Pacific Ocean, where the ship remains docked overnight. Tonight enjoy an onboard Latin jazz concert by talented musicians and students from Panama s Danilo Pérez Foundation. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22: PANAMA CITY, PANAMA Following a morning architectural tour through the UNESCO-recognized Casco Viejo (Old Quarter), visit the Museum of Contemporary Art. Explore the innovative Bridge of Life Museum, renowned architect Frank Gehry s first project in Latin America, which explains how the formation of the Isthmus of Panama changed the world three million years ago. Sea Cloud II sets sail this afternoon. THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23: ISLA DE COIBA, PANAMA During a relaxing morning at sea, settle back in a deck chair and watch the crew trim the sails by hand as we sail to Isla de Coiba. In the afternoon, tender ashore to this small islet to visit Coiba National Park, the largest marine reserve in Panama. Swim or snorkel from the pristine beach at Granita del Oro, with its calm waters and array of coral and fish. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24: AT SEA / CASA ORQUIDEAS, COSTA RICA Cruise the Golfo Dulce, on Costa Rica s southern Pacific Coast, an area known for its secluded beaches and amazing wildlife. Travel by Zodiac to nearby Casa Orquideas. Founded nearly 30 years ago by American expats, this beautiful private garden has carefully landscaped paths blooming with bromeliads, ornamental trees, ginger plants, and various fruit trees. Visitors frequently spot colorful toucans, scarlet macaws, and hummingbirds. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25: CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK, COSTA RICA This morning explore incredible Corcovado National Park, home to scarlet macaws, quetzals, red eyed tree frogs, and tapirs. National Geographic has called Corcovado the most biologically intense place on earth in terms of biodiversity. Naturalist guides will lead us on a walk through the park to see some of the 13 major ecosystems, including mangrove, lagoon, and primary lowland rainforest. SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26: SIERPE DE OSA, COSTA RICA Enjoy a boat tour through the channels of the Manglares de Térraba-Sierpe, one of the largest mangrove systems of Central America. A hidden world accessible only by water, these flooded forests are home to nearly 100 species of birds, including the endemic mangrove hummingbird (found nowhere else on earth). Lunch is on deck as Sea Cloud II sails along Costa Rica s remote and picturesque southwest coast.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 28: SAN JUAN DEL SUR / GRANADA, NICARAGUA Step ashore in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, with its Victorian houses and colossal statue of Christ on a neighboring hillside. Travel to nearby Granada, founded by Spanish explorer Francisco Hernández de Córdoba in On a walking tour, see this colonial gem s 17th-century adobe houses, crumbling courtyard gardens, and Italianate villas. Also visit Convento y Museo San Francisco, which is the oldest church in Central America, and historic Iglesia de La Merced. During a free afternoon in San Juan del Sur, you may wish to stroll through the quaint town or take a swim at one of the nearby beaches. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1: PLAYA DEL COCO, COSTA RICA Arrive at Playa del Coco on Costa Rica s Nicoya Peninsula. The morning is at leisure to swim or snorkel from the beach before Sea Cloud II sails in the early afternoon. This evening toast a memorable voyage at the captain s farewell dinner. THURSDAY, MARCH 2: PUNTARENAS / SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA Following morning disembarkation drive to San Ramón to visit the El Silencio de Los Angeles Cloud Forest Reserve. Discover some of the 2,500 species of plants, including 400 varieties of orchids. We might also spot exotic wildlife such as the quetzal, two-toed sloth, and motmot bird. Following lunch at the reserve, continue to San José and check in at the J. W. Marriott. Enjoy a festive dinner at the hotel.
