2 صفحه 56 گردشگری Shamsolemareh Palace in Tehran Shams ol-emareh is one of the first high-rise buildings of old Tehran, Nasser al-din Shah Qajar ordered Doostali Khan Nezam ol-dowleh (Moayer al-mamalek) to build it. He choose a site to the east of the Arg and finished the building in 1867 A.D. The building which was well planned and adorned with various decorations such as stucco, Ayaneh Kari, tile and murals is one of the most beautiful of Tehran`s historical buildings. Moayer al-mamalek not only built it with his own money, but bought also the carpets and furnishings and presented the complete building to Nasser al-din Shah Qajar This palace is located in the eastern section of Golestan palace and belongs to the era of Nassereddin Shah. The king was inspired in one of his visits abroad, by the multi - storey buildings he observed there. The building was constructed by Doost Ali Khan Moayerrol Mamalek in The structure of the building is strong and the symmetries have been formed beautifully. The building is brick made with thick walls. In some cases the thickness of the basement walls exceeds 600 centimeters and the thickness of the ground floor walls stands in the range of 510, 150 and 120 centimeters. Shamsol Emareh has been the tallest royal building with three stories and two towers on the top. This building was used to serve as a place for official receptions and also the private harem of Nassereddin Shah. In his book entitled Meraat - ol - Boldan, Etemad - ol - Saltaneh describes its halls and chambers all equipped with high quality and premium curtains, chandeliers and posters. 3 NATURE BRIDGE IN TEHRAN Bridges have always been close to the heart of Iranian identity. Isfahan Iran s top tourist destination and a former capital of Persia boasts two spectacular bridges from the 16th century Safavid dynasty when the city was at the center of Islamic art and culture. It was built over two years and was unveiled in late 2014 by Tehran s mayor Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. It has since become a popular place for hangouts and morning sports. Built on three large pillars the 270-metre curved structure has broad entrances multiple pathways and three floors of restaurants and cafes and sitting areas. It was recently named among the winners of the Architizer A+ awards a global architectural competition based in New York. صفحه 69 شماره 84 Tabiat is reminiscent of Isfahan s Siosepol whose name means bridge of 33 arches and Khaju Bridge which are places for public meetings poetry reading and traditional tea houses. Tabiat Bridge was designed in order to improve access for pedestrians between two public parks which are divided by highways. Instead of connecting 2 points to each other the idea was to create multiple paths on each park that would lead people to the bridge. This bridge is a place to linger rather than just to pass so there are seating areas and green spaces on all parts of the bridge also restaurants on the two sides of the lower level to have enough means to make the users stay on it. All the levels are connected to each other by

This provides numerous ways to experience the bridge encouraging pedestrians to wander and get lost on this bridge. The bridges are usually considered as structural projects but here the approach was more architectural. The design of this three-level Ton Structure pedestrian bridge is inspired by ancient Iranian architecture in which bridge was not just a crossing path linking 2 sides of a river or valley but a place to stay relax and enjoy beautiful views. Tabiat (Nature) Bridge is the biggest walking bridge in Iran and connects two parks together Taleghani forest park and Ab-o Atash park. The curved path with variable width and changes in the slopes of the bridge slows down the users and creates a sense of mystery about the destination. The bridge is designed to improve access for pedestrians in Tehran between two public parks which are divided by a highway. This bridge is a place to linger rather than just to pass so there are seating areas and green spaces on all parts of the bridge also restaurants on either side of the lower level to have enough facilities to encourage walkers to stay on it.

Isfahan, located in the center of the country, is perhaps Iran s most touristy city, famous for its Islamic architecture, covered bridges, palaces, and mosques. It is home to several major tourist sites, such as Imam Square (Naqsh-e Jahan Square), one of the largest and most beautiful city squares in the world. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site that features gorgeous Iranian and Islamic architecture. There are also beautiful mosques here, like the dreamy Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque.

7 Charbagh, Isfahan (Four Gardens) is a historical avenue in Isfahan constructed in the Safavid era. It connects north of city to south and is about 6 kilometers long. On the west side are the Gardens of the Vazirs, and on the east, there are Hasht Behesht and Chehel Sotoun gardens. King Shah Abbas I moved his capital from Qazvin to Esfahan and decided to pour all the countries artistic wealth into that central spot which has been dubbed for centuries "Nisfi Jahan" or "Half the World". The chief architect of this task of urban planning was Shaykh Bahai (Baha' ad-din al-`amili), who focused the program on two key features of Shah Abbas's master plans: Chahar Bagh avenue, flanked at either side by all the prominent institutions of the city, such as the residences of all foreign dignitaries, and Naqsh-e Jahan Square ("Examplar of the World"). The quadrilateral garden is divided by walkways or flowing water into four smaller parts. 8 India are the most famous examples of this style. In Charbagh at Taj Mahal, each of the four parts contain sixteen flower beds. Shah Abbas I laid out this magnificent avenue between 1596 and The Avenue runs from a district known as Hezar Jerib (The thousand acres) in the South up to a wide square near the palace of Chehel Sotoon, crossing the Zayandeh River at the Si-o-Seh Pol bridge. The name means literally "Four Gardens" and this alludes to the four great parks which were laid out on either side of the road. The central path was originally a watercourse and the pathways on either side of it were set as present amongst double rows of chenar trees (platanus orientalis). The asphalted roads on either side of the central reservation were originally flower beds. Today the avenue is very much the center of life in the town. The shops abutting it are the finest, and the principal hotels in the city are situated either in it or adjacent to it. charbagh (four gardens)

9 Arg of Karim Khan Karim Khan Castle is a citadel located in the northeast of Shiraz, southern Iran. It was built as part of a complex during the Zand dynasty and is named after Karim Khan, and served as his living quarters. In shape it resembles a medieval fortress. At times, the citadel was used as a prison. Today, it is a museum operated by Iran's Cultural Heritage Organization. Karim Khan Castle is also known as Arge Karim Khan, Arge Karim Khani and Citadel of Karim Khan. Arg-e-Karim Khan was built in 1180 AH (1766-7). Karim Khan invited the best architects and artists of the time and bought the best materials from other cities and abroad for the construction of the citadel of Karim Khan, which was quickly constructed. During the Zand dynasty it was used by the king as living quarters. During the Qajar period it was used as the governor's seat. Prince Abdolhosein Mirza Farmanfarma, governor of Fars Province, ordered the miniatures in the citadel to be renovated. After the fall of the Qajar Dynasty it was converted into a prison and the paintings were plastered over. In 1971 it was given to Iran's Cultural Heritage Organization. The renovation of the citadel started in Vakil Fortress Karim Khan Castle is located at Shahrdari Square. It has a land area of 4,000 m2 and is in the center of a 12,800 m2 compound. The Citadel of Karim Khan consists of four high walls connected by four 14 m round brick towers at a 90-degree angle. Each 12 m wall is canalized and is 3 meters thick at the base and 2.8 meters at the top. The design of the citadel combines military and residential architecture, for it was the home of Karim Khan and the military center of the dynasty. Tile works depicting legendary tales were added at the entrance gate of the citadel during the Qajar Era. Inside the Arg is a large, open courtyard filled with citrus trees and a pool. A dusty museum of the Zand period, with wax figures in traditional dress, occupies rooms off the northwest iwan. صفحه 39 گردشگری

11 SHIRAZ Iran's top 10 tourist destinations Persepolis (Takht-e-Jamshid), the capital of the Achaemid Empire and one of the world s most magnificent ancient sites, was declared a world heritage site in 1979 by UNESCO. Page 11 Tourism From ancient cities and beach resorts, to the modern capital and skiing destinations by the Guardian: YAZD SHIRAZ Amir Chakhmaq Square, built in the ninth century in Yazd. The desert city, famous for its wind-catchers [ventilators], is located in the middle of Iran and is the center of Zoroastrian culture. The Eram Garden (Garden of Paradise) in Shiraz is a typical Persian garden. This waterway leads towards the historic Qavam House. Shiraz is the city of love and Persian poetry, and home to many touristic sites including the tome of Hafez, a well-known Persian poet from the 14th century. Saadi, another celebrated poet of the 13th century, is also buried in Shiraz. MASHHAD The city in east Iran close to the border with Afghanistan is a popular destination for religious tourists and pilgrims. The shrine of Imam Reza, the eighth Imam in Shia Islam, is the largest mosque in the world. Mashhad is also home to the tomb of Ferdowsi, the Persian poet behind the Shahnameh, a national epic. TEHRAN Shemshak and Dizin, situated in the Alborz mountain range close to the capital, are favorite getaways for wealthy Tehrani during the winter and spring months.

12 ISFAHAN Isfahan, nicknamed Half the World is perhaps Iran s best known touristic city. Naqsh-e Jahan Square, a square at the center of the city, is also a UNESCO world heritage site. HAMEDAN The capital of Iran s Hamedan province is one of the oldest cities in the world. The internationally known Iranian scientist Avicenna is buried here. TEHRAN The Iranian capital is a modern metropolis which also boasts a number of palaces belonging to the Pahlavi dynasty and dozens of museums. TEHRAN Tehran's Museum of Contemporary Art was designed by Iranian architect Kamran Diba, who employed elements from traditional Persian architecture. It was built adjacent to Laleh Park, Tehran, and was inaugurated in The building itself can be regarded as an example of contemporary art. Most of the museum area is located underground. KISH Kish is a 91.5-square-kilometer resort island in the Persian Gulf. It is part of the Hormozgān Province of Iran. Due to its free trade zone status it is touted as a consumer's paradise, with numerous malls, shopping centers, tourist attractions, and resort hotels. Kish Island was ranked among the world s 10 most beautiful islands by The New York Times in 2010, and is the fourth most visited vacation destination in Southwest Asia after Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Sharm al-sheikh. Foreign nationals wishing to enter Kish Free Zone from legal ports are not required to obtain visas prior to travel. 13 Page 13 Tourism Sights in Yazd Towers of Silence Set on two lonely, barren hilltops on the southern outskirts of Yazd are the evocative Zoroastrian Towers of Silence. In accordance with Zoroastrian beliefs about the purity of the earth, dead bodies were not buried but left in these uncovered stone towers so that vultures could pick the bones clean. At the foot of the hills on the southern outskirts of Yazd are several disused Zoroastrian buildings, including a defunct well, a water cistern and two small badgirs (windtowers or wind catchers), a kitchen and a lavatory. The modern Zoroastrian cemetery is nearby. Old City Yazd's old city is one of the oldest towns on earth, according to UNESCO, and is the perfect place to get a feel for the region's rich history. Just about everything in the old city is made from sundried mud bricks, and the resulting brown skyline is dominated by tall badgirs on almost every rooftop. Wander around. You'll discover simple courtyards, ornate wooden doors and some lovely adobe architecture. In the meantime you'll be discovered by countless children who will help lead you out of the maze when you are ready. Be sure to get yourself to the rooftops at some point for fine views over Yazd and into the vast brown expanses of the desert.

14 Alexander s Prison This 15th-century domed school is known as Alexander s Prison because of a reference to this apparently dastardly place in a Hafez poem. Whether the deep well in the middle of its courtyard was in fact built by Alexander the Great and used as a dungeon seems doubtful. The building itself is worth a look for the small display on the old city of Yazd. The early-11th-century brick Tomb of the 12 Imams is almost next door to Alexander s Prison. The once-fine (but now badly deteriorated) inscriptions inside bear the names of the Shiite Imams, though none are actually buried here. Bagh-e Dolat Abad Once a residence of Karim Khan Zand, this small pavilion set amid UNESCO-listed gardens was built about The interior of the pavilion is superb, with intricate latticework and exquisite stained-glass windows. It s also renowned for having Iran s loftiest badgir, standing over 33m, though this one was rebuilt after it collapsed in the 1960s. Khan-e Lari This 150-year-old building is one of the best-preserved Qajar-era houses in Yazd. The badgirs, traditional doors, stained-glass windows, elegant archways and alcoves mark it out as one of the city s grandest homes. The merchant family who built it have long gone, and it s now home to architecture students and cultural heritage officers. Page 14 Tourism

15 Page 15 Tourism Masjed-e Jameh Dominating the old city, this magnificent building has a tiled entrance portal that is one of the tallest in Iran, flanked by two magnificent 48m-high minarets and adorned with an inscription from the 15th century. The exquisite mosaics on the dome and mihrab, and the tiles above the main western entrance to the courtyard are particularly stunning. The gardoneh mehr (swastika symbol) used on the tiles symbolizes infinity, timelessness, birth and death and can be found on Iranian buildings dating back as early as 5000 BC. Built for Sayyed Roknaddin in the 15th century, the mosque is on the site of a 12th-century building believed to have itself replaced an earlier fire temple. In the courtyard there is a stairwell leading down to part of the Zarch Qanat. Amir Chakhmaq Complex The stunning three-storey facade of this Hosseinieh makes it one of the largest such structures in Iran. Its rows of perfectly proportioned sunken alcoves are at their best, and most photogenic, around sunset when the light softens and the towering exterior is discreetly floodlit. Recent work has added arcades at the side to keep traffic away from the structure. You can climb to the 1st floor of the structure and look over the square, but higher levels are not accessible. In front of the Hosseinieh, look out for the huge wooden palm nakhl, an important centerpiece once used for the observance of the Shiites passionate Ashura commemorations. Ateshkadeh Zoroastrians come from around the world to see this ateshkadeh, often referred to as the Zoroastrian Fire Temple and said to have been burning since about AD 470. Visible through a window from the entrance hall, the flame was transferred to Ardakan in 1174, then to Yazd in 1474 and to its present site in Above the entrance you can see the Fravahar symbol.

16 Bogheh-ye Sayyed Roknaddin The beautiful blue-tiled dome of the tomb of local Islamic notable Sayyed Roknaddin Mohammed Qazi is visible from any elevated point in the city. Built 700 years ago, the dome is fairly impressive. Saheb Al Zaman Zurkhaneh Just off the north side of Amir Chakhmaq Sq. is the Saheb Al Zaman Zurkhaneh, which is worth seeing both for its Iranian brand of body building and because it s a quite amazing structure. The modern club is inside a cavernous ab anbar (water reservoir) built around Looking like a 29m-high standing egg from the inside, and crowned with five burly badgirs, the reservoir stored water for much of the town. The hour-long workouts in the Zurkhaneh are an interesting window on Iranian culture. Yazd Water Museum Yazd water museum was set up in 2000 in the wake of the first international conference on qanat in Yazd. The museum building has once been a merchant s house built in Two qanats are running beneath the museum at different levels, which are reachable through a special stairway called Payab. This museum has put on display a variety of water objects from qanat to water ownership documents. Some parts of the house structure represent some parts of water history in the region. For example the stairway to qanat or a reservoir on the roof can show how water technologies and everyday life have been interwoven in the past. The museum is one of the best tourist destinations in Yazd, which receives hundreds of visitors every day. Page 16 Tourism

19 Chabahar is a city in and capital of Chah Bahar County, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Iran. Chabahar is Iran's southernmost city and is situated on the Makran Coast of Sistan and Baluchestan province of Iran and is officially designated as a Free Trade and Industrial Zone by Iran's government. Due to its free trade zone status, the city has increased in significance in international trade. The overwhelming majority of the city's inhabitants are ethnic Baluch who speak the Baluchi language. 20 صفحه 68 شماره 82 Tourism Chabahar is home of different natural and historical phenomena which could attract every tourist: Mangrove forest This forest is located alongside the Gwatre Gulf which has made suitable residence for valuable species of seabirds such as flamingo, eagle, heron etc. Beaches Chabahar Beaches own one of the most scenic coastal areas in all of Iran. Chabahar Beaches are suitable for many water sports and activities including swimming, diving, snorkeling, canoeing, water skiing and surfing. Lipar Lagoon This lagoon is close to Ramin village and 15 kilometers far from the east of Chabahar in direction of coastal road of Chabahar to Gwatre. Mars or Martian Mounts Also known as koohaye merikhi are stretched out parallel to the sea, starting from Kachoo village up to the proximity of Gwater. Martian Mounts are extremely beautiful and considered to be symbols of the unique geo-morphological phenomena of Chabahar. Tis Fortress Tis fortress is located on a hill along Chabahar-Tis Road and far from Chabahar city by 6 kilometers. The fortress is constructed in 34*59 meters. The materials used in this fortress are bricks, stones, a kind of plaster cast and lime. The gate is located in the east, and the fortress comprehends a big vestibule with numerous rooms, a private veranda, a cistern, ramparts, well, etc. Historical Port Village of Tis This village is 5 kilometer north of Chabahar City and is situated in the opening mouth of Chabahar Gulf. This village is located in the direction of south shores of Iran. Old Telegraph Building (Telegraphic Office) This building is one of the oldest available stone buildings in Chabahar. The stone inscription on the forehead of building shows the date of 1845 A.D., which was constructed by Britain for promotion of business, marine affairs and connection between India, Gwater, Jask and Bandar Abbass. Banmasity Caves This complex includes two natural and an artificial cave which are located in Tis village on the slope of Shabaz Mountain. Ban is a pious man's name and Masity is that of temple. Gwater Castle This castle is located in the farthest South East of Iran, in the direction of coastal road of Gwater- Chabahar on the top of the Hill. There are an ancient graveyard and a well in this area. The discovered earthen wares in this place belong to the third millennium B.C.
