5 Trip Notes 16th May to 6nd June 2018 Day1, Istanbul 16 May 2019 (Thursday) Arrive Istanbul. Transfer to Hotel. Free time Day2, Istanbul(B) 17 May 2019 Full day city tour of Istanbul s Sultanahmet region. We will visit marvels of Ottoman capital, ancient Hippodrome, Blue Mosque, The Underground Cistern, Hagia Sophia Church, Topkapi Palace. Overnight in Sultanahmet. Day3, Goreme(B-D) 18 May 2019 Transfer to the Ataturk Airport to take the flight with Turkish Airlines arrive Capadoccia Nevsehir Airport Start visiting Devrent Valley, Zelve Open Air Museum and Monk s Valley (Pasabagi) where you will see the famous fairy chimneys. We will finish the day with a view of Pigeon Valley and the fortress of Uchisar which, like all the ancient buildings in this region, is carved in the most spectacular fashion from the living rock. At its summit are the (now empty) tombs of the ancient rulers of the region. Overnight in Goreme Day4, Goreme (B-D) 19 May 2019 We will start very early this morning for one of the highlights of our trip, hot air balloon ride. After breakfast we will be visiting the Goreme Open Air Museum with its monastic communities and churches carved from the soft volcanic rock and We drive to visit the underground cities of Derinkuyu. These ancient city, of which there are many, are a unique feature of the Cappadocian region. Derinkuyu, discovered only in the early 1960s is believed to predate even the Hittites and was expanded over time by the different peoples of the area to produce what we see today. We will walk along the Ihlara Valley Canyon and a visit to the Selimiye Monastery. Once again, carved from the rock and commanding a prominent vantage point over the start of the Ihlara Valley, the Selimiye monastery complex boasts numerous dormitories and kitchens, a seminary, chapels and a cathedral. Continue to Konya, where we will spend nights. In Konya, Çatal Höyük. The capital of the 13th-cent. Seljuk empire and home of Sufism, Konya remains the religious centre of Turkey. Visit the Mevlana Tekke, monastery of the Whirling Dervishes, with its turquoise dome and collection of Islamic art. The Karatay Madrasa with its marvellous Seljuk tiles is now a museum of ceramics. Afternoon excursion to Çatal Höyük, the most important Neolithic site in Turkey and probably the earliest town in the world (c bc) Overnight Konya Day6, Olympos (B-D) 21 May 2019 After the breakfast we will drive to a Lycian city Aspendos with the best reserved Roman theatre in the world and still housing concerts and activities and Perge, a great ancient city with city walls, theatre, and Hellenistic stadium. Overnight Olympos. After the breakfast we will drive up to Fethiye where we will take our cruise. FETHIYE TO YASSICA ISLAND then we will take you to your gulet to be checked in and briefed on your cruise. Departing Fethiye harbour we will cruise through the 12 islands region, stopping for a delicious lunch and plenty of swimming breaks. Tonight we moor down in either Gocek or Yassica Island. Day8, Blue Voyage (B-L-D) 23 May 2019 YASSICA ISLAND TO AGA LIMANI BAY After breakfast we will motor onto Bedri Rahmi Bay, one of the most popular bays in the area for sailing yachts. Spend your time swimming in the crystal clear water or take the time to swim to the small beach and explore the ancient Lycian ruins hidden in the trees. In this bay a fish has been painted on a large rock by Turkish writer, Bedi Rahmi Eyupoglu who the bay is named after. Eyupoglu painted this fish on his first ever blue voyage. Later in the afternoon we head onto Domuz (Pork) Island before anchoring down at Aga Limani Bay where we have dinner and stay for the night AGA LIMANI BAY TO MARMARIS This morning is an early start with the crew covering some distance in the early hours so guests can wake to Kumlubuk Bay for breakfast. The morning will be spent here relaxing, swimming and exploring the nearby land. This is one of the largest stretches of beach along the peninsula. We then cruise onto Cennet Island, where you will have lunch and your last chance for a paddle. In the late afternoon we will arrive into Marmaris Harbour and this is where we will stay overnight. Being in the harbour for the night, guests will have the chance to explore Marmaris - the City Centre, the shops & vibrant night life Day10, Dalyan(B-D) 25 May 2019 Your cruising experience will end after breakfast. This is around 10:00am, It s time to farewell your new friends and crew and disembark the gulet. (IMPORTANT NOTICE) All efforts are made to follow this itinerary, however in cases of poor weather and/or sea conditions, this schedule may change at Captain s discretion. Day12, Pamukkale (B-D) 27 May 2019 We drive to Pamukkale visit Hierapolis and Pamukkale. Famous today for the calcite deposits which look like frozen cascades of water, ancient Hierapolis was once a health spa renowned throughout the ancient world for the treatment of many ailments but especially allergies and skin complaints. The importance and wealth of this ancient city is clear from the impressive remains scattered up the hill behind the calcite Travetines although the profusion of important tombs in the city s necropolis does make one wonder about the efficacy of the treatments on offer in ancient times. However, people still visit to take the cure at the ancient site and at nearby spa hotels and there are always plenty of people swimming in the sacred pool amongst the fallen columns of the Temple of Apollo. 8 Day13, Sirince (B-D) 28 May 2019 Today we will drive to visit Ephesus, possibly the best preserved Roman city in the eastern Mediterranean and once the capital city of the Roman province of Asia which at its peak boasted a population of 400,000 people. In ancient times Ephesus was the centre of the cult of Artemis/ Cybele, the Anatolian Mother Goddess and later celebrated as the last home of the Virgin Mary. And then drive to Sirince for our ovenright. Day14, Sirince (B-D) 29 May 2019 Today is a relaxing day, we will walk around this little village and will cook our traditional Turkish food. Day15, Bergama(B-D) 30 May 2019 After breakfast we will start to go up to the north. We will on the coast to reach Bergama, where ancient city of Pergamum located. This city once very famous for its spa and clinic that specialised in the treatment of psychological ailments and mental health. Today it is known for its stunning acropolis and the Temple of Hadrian. Overnight in Bergama Day16, Canakkale(B-D) 31 May 2019 From Bergama we depart for Troy. Of all the ancient sites in Turkey, Troy is probably the one that captures western imaginations the most what really inspires the imagination is Homer s Iliad, the story of the Trojan War; the legendary Trojan Horse is reconstructed at the entrance of the city while the wooden horse that was used in the making of the eponymous Hollywood blockbuster takes pride of place on the water front in the nearby port of Canakkale. Day17, Galipoli(B-D) 01 June 2019 After breakfast we will visit some of the highlight of coastal city of Canakkale. then we will catch the ferry across the Dardanelles heading to one of the most important battle fields of the great war. Overnight Galipoli. Day18,Istanbul (B) 02 June 2019 Early morning we will be on the shores of battlefield. We will spent all morning to explore some of the remaining from Galipoli war. A pilgrimage site for Australians. After lunch we will drive to Istanbul.

11 Nuran Zorlu APP-L, M.Photog II Nuran Zorlu is an Australian commercial and advertising photographer with over 20 years of industry experience; an award winning photographer on two occasions he has received the prestigious AIPP Travel Photographer of the Year (NSW) award and his photographs have been selected as finalists in the Head On and Sydney Morning Herald s Shoot the Chef competitions; a well-respected teacher of photography; and a highly regarded judge of Australian photography competitions. Nuran s travel photography has featured in many major exhibitions and publications; he has lectured on travel photography and history at the Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney University, the Cezayir Cultural Centre in Istanbul and at the 2016 Tehran International Book-fair. His illustrated travel journal/ book, Persia to Iran, has been reviewed on ABC radio and also featured in a BBC World Service documentary. He conducts photography workshops in Armenia, Georgia, Turkey, China and Iran. Born in Turkey to Armenian parents Nuran speaks fluent English, Turkish and Armenian. He earned a degree in philosophy and sociology at Istanbul University and has a great love for the region s history. This unique perspective and knowledge, combined with his photographic skills, ensures his travel photography tours are more than just an opportunity to learn camera, framing and lighting techniques - they also provide you with an intimate understanding of the region and its people. 12 Richard Bennett APP-L, M.Photog IV, Hon.FAIPP, FAIPP Richard Bennett has turned his love of wilderness, travel and adventure into a long and successful career. Although he lives and works in Tasmania, whose wild beauty captivated him as a boy and inspired him to build his work life around it, Richard has travelled the world. In 1969, after three seasons of mountaineering in New Zealand, Richard was selected as a member of Australia s first Andean Expedition. The expedition s achievements included 13 First Ascents. Richard s archives include black and whites of an empty Machu Picchu, before it was a tourist attraction, and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. His photographic adventures since have included China s Jade Dragon Mountains, Africa, Asia, Europe and most recently Iran. Richard and his wife Sue have walked the Camino, and spent lots of time exploring the rivers and canals of France. Richard also takes photographic walking tours in Tasmania s pristine South West Wilderness, an area so remote that it can only be reached on foot, by air or by sea. Richard Bennett is one of yachting s pre-eminent living photographers, published in Paris Match, Vanity Fair, GEO, Life Magazine and literally every sailing publication including American Sail, Yachting World UK and Classic Boat UK. His work featured in the international best-selling book Fatal Storm. An iconic photograph of a yacht leaping upwards at 28 knots in a 60-knot gale in the 1990 Melbourne-Hobart, earned him the title as the man who shot Wild Thing. Bennett has won Australian Press Photographer of the Year for the Best Sports Photograph, has been a guest exhibitorwith the world s largest diorama-at the International Photography Hall of Fame in the USA. He has also won the Ilford Award for the highest scoring print at the AIPP National Print Awards. In 2003 he was awarded a Centenary Medal for his promotion of Tasmania through his photography. Richard has published 12 books, ranging from the wildly successful Ocean Classics to the Bruny Island Cookbook, which was also a best seller.
