DUBROVNIK After independent arrival at Dubrovnik airport, transfer to your hotel. Overnight in Dubrovnik. Day2. DUBROVNIK MOSTAR SARAJEVO After breakfast depart to Mostar. Enjoy a city tour of the Old City of Mostar the typical Turkish village immortalized by many artists and now a UNESCO World Heritage site. OSIJEK - ZAGREB In the morning city tour of Osijek, visiting the Baroque Fortress, St. Trinity Square, Water Gate and other city highlights. Day 4 OHRID Full day in the lakeside resort of Ohrid, classified as UNESCO s World Cultural Heritage site. Through the activity of St. Clement and St. Naum of Ohrid, the first pan-slavic University in Europe, the famous Ohrid Literary School was founded here. Morning sightseeing tour includes the church of St. Sofia (11 th century), the most eminent mediaeval monument in Macedonia with magnificent Byzantine fresco paintings and St. Clement Church with its icon of Annunciation. In the afternoon a short drive to visit St. Naum Monastery built on the shores of Ohrid Lake in 900 A.D. and dedicated to the Slavic missionary and educator St. Naum of Ohrid. Return to hotel and overnight. Day 5 OHRID SKOPJE Morning departure for Skopje. Sightseeing tour of Skopje, including the Kale Fortress, the Church of the Holy Savior with its iconostas, one of the finest samples of traditional walnut woodcarving, Old Bazaar and Stone Bridge. We drive to the slopes of the Vodno Mountain where we visit the Monastery of St Panteleimon with its 12 th century iconostas and frescoes ranking among the highest achievements of Byzantine art of this period. 10 Day 6 SKOPJE KOLAŠIN / MONTENEGRO Morning departure for Kolašin, driving via Peć and Berane and along the impressive Morača River Canyon. Afternoon arrival at Kolašin, spreading on the left bank of the river Tara, situated at the altitude of 954m. The whole area is surrounded by the thick pine forest of the Bjelasica Mountain and is a popular skiing and air spa resort. Overnight in Kolašin. Day 7 KOLAŠIN CETINJE KOTOR DUBROVNIK Morning departure for Cetinje where we visit King Nikola Museum, once the residence of the Montenegrin King Nikola I Petrović. Continuation to Budva and Kotor, classified as UNESCO s World Cultural Heritage, where we visit its Romanesque Cathedral dedicated to St. Triphun, the city s patron saint. We continue to Dubrovnik driving along the picturesque Bay of Kotor. Overnight in Dubrovnik. Pass by the picturesque towns of Nafpaktos (Lepanto) and Itea, arrive in Delphi. Overnight in Delphi. 3rd day: Delphi - Kalambaka In the morning visit the Archaeological Site and the Museum of Delphi. 15 4th day: Meteroa- Archeological Park of Dion - Thessaloniki Visit Meteora, among striking scenery, perched on top of huge rocks which seem to be suspended in mid- air, stand ageless Monasteries, where you can see exquisite specimens of Byzantine art. Depart from Kalambaka, drive through the plain of Thessaly and the valley of Tempi, arrive and visit the Archaeological Park of Dion. Admire also the gigantic figure of Mount Olympus. After the visit depart for Thessaloniki, the second largest and the most vibrant city in Greece. Overnight in Thessaloniki. 5th day 2013: Veria - Naoussa - Edessa - Pella - Thessaloniki Depart in the morning for a unique approach to historical Macedonia. First stop at Veria to visit Saint Paul s Bema. Then stroll through the old Jewish neighbourhood and the colourful market area. A walk in the city where past is present Then proceed to Naoussa, a site of exceptional beauty and importance: Aristotle's School, the impressive scenery where the great philosopher taught the doctrines of morals and politics to Alexander. In only a few miles away is picturesque Edessa where you can see the town s famous landmark, the Waterfalls. Then comes Pella, the capital of Alexander the Great. See the exquisite floor mosaics of the 4th century B.C. villas, in situ as well as in the local Museum. Return to Thessaloniki for overnight. 5th day 2014: Kastoria - Edessa - Pella - Thessaloniki Depart in the morning for the Macedonian hinterland and the town of Kastoria, renown centre of the fur industry and also famous for its Lake and its 75 Byzantine churches. A Neolithic Lake Settlement 7000 years old, was discovered here and you will be able to stroll through and admire the reconstruction of the village which represents the contemporary museological concept. After Kastoria continue driving in the plateau of Western Macedonia and arrive in the picturesque town of Edessa. Here you can see the town s famous landmark, the Waterfalls. Then, proceed to Pella, the capital of Alexander the Great. See the exquisite floor mosaics of the 4th century BC. villas, in situ as well as in the local Museum. Return to Thessaloniki for overnight. 6th day: Thessaloniki Visit Thessaloniki and feel the glorious Byzantine past in some of the most characteristic churches of the Christian world as well as in the Museum of Byzantine Culture. 16 7th day: Vergina - Lamia - Thermopylae - Thebes - Athens Drive to Vergina, to live the experience of a visit to the unique Museum, created in the Great Tumulus covering the royal tombs of Macedonia. See the astonishing findings from the tomb of King Philip II, Alexander s father, and feel the thrill of the greatest discovery of the 20th century. After the visit we shall start driving south and through Thessaly, Lamia, Thermopylae (see the Leonidas Monument) and Thebes, arrive in Athens late in the afternoon.
