2 Itinerary Day 1 Akrotiri, Crete Arrival time TBA. Friday, Sept. 20 th Arrival Day and Transportation We are offering a pre-adventure meetup in Athens for those who have a connecting flight. Please contact me for an easy and inexpensive travel tips to help this optional travel suggestion become a reality. Athena (or Athene) was originally a Cretan Goddess who watched over the home and town. Attributes of fertility and renewal are expressed in her association with the tree (or pillar) and snake symbolism, respectively. She is the patron of wisdom, arts, and skills, and she especially protects architects, sculptors, potters, spinners, and weavers. When the Mycenaean princes of the mainland adopted and adapted Athena, she was assigned a martial character. She became the shielded defender of their citadels, particularly Athens. In Olympian mythology Athena is firmly established as the cold, rigid Goddess of war. So suppressed and/or forgotten are her matrifocal Cretan origin s that she is represented as a daughter born without a mother, having sprung fully armed from the head of Zeus. 3 Day 2 Exploring the Minoan and Mycenaean civilization Group exploration. Heraklion. Saturday, Sept. 21 st We begin our day, earlier, for an adventure in Heraklion, Crete s capital city. Walking in the footsteps of the Goddesses prior to the Kings at the Palace of Knossos with our guide. Experience this important archaeological site which was excavated by Sir Arthur Evans from The artistic skills of The work of Minoan architects and painters are visible throughout the palatial grounds, from the multistory residences to the frescos in the Throne room. Discover the architectural theme of palatial centers, the large, rectangle paved central court around which multi-story, sometimes four-story wings that housed the various activities of this small, vibrant city. The remaining wings demonstrate the high style of porticos, verandas, and colonnades allowing light and air to flow into rooms with brilliant frescoes depicting activities of the palace. Travel back through the layers of time when the Neolithic goddesses celebrated life at this important historical site. Our day continues, in the city center of Heraklion where we will explore the Heraklion Archaeological Museum which houses exhibits of the Minoan civilization, the first palatial culture on European soil. From fresco s to sculpture, exquisite jewelry such as the gold Bee Pendant, step into the Minoan world expressed through their aesthetic tastes, cultural practices, and beliefs. 4 Day 3 Beach, Beach, Beach Group Exploration. Balos Sunday, Sept. 22 nd Where to beach? Crete offers amazing beaches, from blue flag to rolling surf, soft white sand to rugged limestone cliffs this is the day where we will as a group, decide how far and for how long. We know that life is never about the destination rather the experience along the way. You will have already familiarized yourself with the sheltered beaches around our villa yet sand and sea are not over, finito, dunzo rather it is just beginning. We will travel by Starseed van about two hours to Chania to Kissamos. Here we access the famous tropical lagoon of Balos and beach by trail. Balos has a 9 th place status out of 100 best beaches in the world. Of course, we will stop along the way and take in the sights. Among them, the 3,000-year-old olive tree, planted at a time when the Minoan civilization was active in Crete, long before the rise of Classical Greece. This ancient tree still produces fruit and is among 14 other ancient olive trees, considered living monuments, located in and around the island. The Goddess Athena and the olive bough are synonymous with the olive branch symbolizing peace. Or should you choose the fee-based option, we depart Chania port and arrive at Balos by yacht with the second stop in Gramvousa. The Goddess is living energy and a mystery, step into her fields, swim in her waters, replenish from her fruited tree, and connect to her living force. 5 Day 4 Celebrating the Autumnal Equinox White Mountain Group Exploration. Farm to Table Cretan Food Experience. Monday, Sept. 23 rd Our short-day adventure explores the limestone White Mountain, known as Lefka Ori in Greek. We take in the views of the gorge of Theriso by Starseed van. Enjoy the tree-lined river that runs along the gorge for 3.7 miles or 6 km providing the greenery of chestnuts and oaks. Take in views as we build up our appetites while slowly taking in the day as we pass goats and sheep along this stunning scenery. We will stop along the way for drinks and celebratory leisure in Theriso, a small Cretan village before making our way to the village of Drakona, which means dragon in Greek. Here, we will be treated to a traditional Cretan meal made in clay pots over a wood fire in a farm to table setting. Everything here is locally sourced with signature flavors and seasonal dishes prepared the traditional way. Hippocrates, circa 400 B.C., stated: Let food be thy medicine. Crete put the Mediterranean diet on the map and since ancient Greek mythology stated the Gods ate ambrosia to gain Herculean strength, so must we in mind, body, spirit. From homemade bread, wine, graviera cheese, meat and vegetable dishes, your senses will be inspired and delighted. The food is uncomplicated, the pace is slow and the setting is classic farm. On our return to our private villa, we will stop off at a locally known owl café for sea views and coffee, maybe a few desserts on the veranda, I hear the view is amazing.all that mountain to sea air will make you hungry, not a single goddess to judge if a few honey drenched mini baklavas make their way back to the villa lounge chair as you sweat those Greek calories off under the Mediterranean sun. Optional Fee Excursion in lieu of above: Samaria Gorge is one of the longest gorges in Europe, located in Crete s only national park, and provides stunning views all day long. Should you decide to submerse-yourself-in-nature-option, your day trip starts early with a 6:15 a.m. bus ride from Chania to Omalos for an early breakfast, then entrance into Samaria Gorge at 8:00 am. Walk at your own pace and without a guide. Approximately at 1:30 pm you will end your hike at the village of Agia Roumeli. You will have time for a swim and to have lunch. At 5:15 pm you will take a boat which brings you to Sougia (one-hour boat trip). At Sougia, - 5 -

6 a bus will be waiting for you to bring you back to Chania, arriving about 8 pm. Everything else about the hike will be explained by Thomas who will also take care of you and provide the entrance tickets and boat tickets. Please note, while the White Mountains unique flora and fauna and the small river running through it are exceedingly beautiful, your 5-6 hour walk, depending on your experience and stamina is a downhill descent from mountain village (3,937 ft or 1,200 meters) to the Libyan Sea which means your knees and you need to get along. For that reason, athletic skill is required. Costs: 22 for bus and 5 Samaria entrance fee. Tuesday, Sept. 24 th Before the monasteries were built, the land was held sacred to the goddess. We will begin our shortday adventure, weaving in and out of time, as we explore present-day monasteries, caves, beaches, seaside tavernas and a beautiful hike in unspoiled Cretan landscape. Inside the Agia Triada Monastery (the Holy Trinity), we will find the walls of the nave depicting the Nativity of Jesus and the Harrowing of Hell. The 1612 monastery depicts the birth of Jesus not in a stable but rather a dark cave, the bringer of light and in the second scene, his descent into the underworld to awaken the dead to eternal life. From this monastery, we will follow the narrow path to Gouverneto Monastery, built in 1537 this isolated monastery sits high above the Cretan sea. From here, we will hike to the Bear Cave and then, to the Katholiko Monastery. Inside the Bear cave, aptly named from a stalagmite bearing its resemblance, we will note the monks who once lived here but go father back in time to the 1 st century A.D. when the Greeks honored the goddess Artemis, whose sacred animal is the bear

7 Artemis is the Goddess of untamed nature. Among the rustic people, she is the most popular Goddess in Greece. Where has Artemis not danced? is a Greek saying. Central to her worship are ecstatic dances and the sacred bough, most probably derived from worship of the ancient moon tree, source of immortality, secret knowledge, and inspiration. Spretnak, Lost Goddesses of Early Greece, p. 75 We continue onward to the abandoned Katholiko Monastery to another cave entrance with alter and empty grave that was once the resting place of St. John the Hermit who arrived here in the 10 th - century and whose reputation as a holy man resulted in this monastery. From here, you have the option to swim in the narrow yet beautiful gorge of Avalaki. We will return to lunch at the white sand beach of Stavos, with its circular bay and blue flag designation. Cooling off in the sea and giving a nod to Anthony Quinn who danced the Sirtaki here during the filming of Zorba the Greek in Of course, a Starseed adventure wouldn t be complete without another invitation to hike yet another cave. Look up from the bay and you will see a steep mountain in the shape of a camel, the cave of Lera is obvious to the eye but a tad difficult to climb. Inside the cave is three chambers with stalagmites, one in the shape of angel wings and a water basin. This cave can be dated back to the Neolithic habitation, Bronze age cult use and ancient historical references indicating worship to Pan and the Nymphs. We will return to the villa for private time. Wednesday, Sept. 25 th We will journey by Starseed van to Chania harbor city, known for its 14 th -century Venetian harbor, narrow streets, quaint stores and waterfront restaurants. Since ancient times, the port city of Chania has seen many conquerors and cultural influences evident in the city s archaeological history. Rich cultural life is apparent in the Turkish, Muslim, and Jewish quarters reflecting strong cultural identity and architectural styles. See the 16 th -century lighthouse with Venetian, Egyptian and Ottoman influences. Explore the spectacular old city with its distinctive atmosphere and Venetian and Turkish charm. Visit the Archaeological Museum housed in the Venetian monastery of Saint Francis which houses cultural history from the Neolithic period to the Roman era. See the Cathedral of Trimartyei or browse a bookshop for books on Atlantis. Sip Greek coffee at Venizelos Square with its fountain and surrounding cafes, shops, cafes, neo-greek restaurants, and - 7 -

8 traditional trellised tavernas. Experience culinary sensory overload in the old city Demotiki Agora, the municipal market square, with stalls of food for purchase. The Cretans built this market as a copy of the market in Marseilles which is in the shape of a cross. There are lots of little alleys to get lost in and a sea to charter a glass bottom boat on. This day adventure is yours, allowing you to take in as much or as little as you want, should you prefer to return to villa by taxi or meet for group lunch. Thursday, Sept 26 th Group decision on how we will spend our last celebratory day in Crete. Take in another Minoan Palatial site, swim one or more crystal beaches in Crete, visit an island, connect to the land in ceremony... For those who want more beach, may I suggest a short drive and rocky hike down to Stefanou Beach for that I did this moment and swim. There are goats around, so I hear, I ll hide the picnic backpack. Or an hour and a half drive to the south side of Crete to swim Prevelli beach and take in that other side. The purpose of our gathering is to celebrate the goddess within you by providing energetic space, the magic of women who honor each other and the alchemical process of spiritual evolution individually and collectively. Therefore, this adventure is not static nor following a mental path executed by time constraints, it is a serpentine path that moves to the inner beat of the soul. Athena has called and with her fellow goddesses will continue our exploration of Crete, if we listen to the call and follow the path lit before us.
