1 2019 HARVARD ALUMNI TRAVELS DISCOVER LEARN CONNECT EXPLORE A Cruise of Ancient Greece on Le Bougainville September 12-20, 2019 with Aniruddh Patel & Jennifer Burton

2 Admire the breathtaking beauty and dramatic height of Meteora s remote monasteries, formerly only accessible by rope ladders. Take an unparalleled nine-day Aegean odyssey round trip from Athens, aboard the exclusively chartered, five star small ship Le Bougainville, which introduces the deluxe and exclusive Blue Eye, the world s first multisensory, underwater lounge. Featuring only 92 suites and staterooms, this elegant and elite small ship is able to cruise into ports inaccessible to larger vessels. Our epic voyage calls on Santorini, Delos, Mykonos, Pátmos, Rhodes and the Peloponnese Peninsula ancient destinations steeped in myth and history and offers opportunities to visit nine magnificent UNESCO World Heritage sites. Visit the extraordinary scenic wonder of Meteora, where 24 Orthodox monasteries, built in the 14th and 15th centuries, are perched high atop dramatic, soaring natural sandstone cliffs. Walk through the Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidaurus, where the history of early Hellenic and Roman natural healing practices is engraved onto the exquisitely preserved stelai, or inscribed stone slabs, and the theater s amazing acoustics continue to resonate for audiences today. Learn more about contemporary Greek island life during the exclusive Forum, where you will meet and engage with local residents. Activity Level 3: A LITTLE MORE TO IT Many of the cities and towns being visited were founded centuries ago, and the terrain is rugged. Therefore, a fair amount of walking along narrow cobblestone streets, stone floors or uneven and/or slippery terrain and climbing several flights of stairs (some without railings) is to be expected. Walking excursions often cover distances of at least one mile/1.6 km and are approximately three hours in length. Please be advised that the ship may either dock in port or tender ashore. TO BOOK A TRIP, CALL OR VISIT ALUMNI.HARVARD.EDU/TRAVEL Study Leaders Husband and wife Aniruddh Patel A.M. 90, Ph.D. 96 and Jennifer Burton 86, Ph.D. 97, draw on the complementary perspectives of science (Ani) and film/literature (Jennifer).
