The program begins at 1100hrs. Special music by Brass 5. Keynote speaker is Alex Kershaw, journalist and a New York Times bestselling author of books on World War II including "The Bedford Boys: One American Town's Ultimate D-Day Sacrifice". There will be a book signing following the ceremony for his newest release, "The First Wave: The D-Day Warriors Who Led the Way to Victory in World War II". Books will be available for purchase in the Memorial's gift store. Admission is free until noon. The latest instalment of veteran bricks will also be dedicated. This World War II landing ship tank (LST) will feature special displays and exhibits to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the invasion of Normandy on June 6, LST 393 was there and is one of only three ships at Omaha Beach still afloat. Visitors can share this historic day aboard one of the most important D-Day artefacts anywhere. The Veterans Charity will unveil a plaque dedicated to the thirty men of 22 Platoon who landed in no. 4 glider which went off course. The men had a very difficult time trying to reach their objective of Horsa Bridge, and faced intense enemy resistance and flooded fields for almost the whole 10-mile march back to rendezvous with their comrades. A poignant time to visit, as 2019 marks the 75th anniversary of the WW2 Allied invasion of Normandy or Operation Overload. Often referred to as the beginning of the end of the war in Europe, Normandy saw the largest amphibious invasion in history.
