For a more historic view, take in the Quart Towers, a former gate of the medieval wall, built in 1444; and Serranos Towers, a former prison surrounded by a moat and built around PALMA DE MALLORCA, SPAIN Day 3 One of Europe s most visually stunning cities, Barcelona balances the medieval intimacy of its Gothic Quarter with the grace and distinction of the wide boulevards in the Moderniste Eixample. It was the home of architect Antoni Gaudí, whose Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Park Güell and Casa Milà are the most profound statements of Modernisme. View the splendid works at the Picasso Museum and the Miro Foundation, or discover Barcelona s passionate ambiance at a flamenco show. VALENCIA, SPAIN Day 2 Mallorca, also known as Majorca, is a windswept island with steep jagged cliffs and olive groves more than a thousand years old. Mallorca is an island of contrasts. To the south is a busy tourist area with hotels, bars, restaurants, shopping and dazzling night life. To the north are rocky valleys, sleepy villages shrouded in bougainvillea, and breathtaking views. Palma is dominated by the breathtaking Gothic Cathedral, located high above the waterfront on the site of a former mosque. MAHÓN(MINORCA), SPAIN Day 4 Valencia was established by the Greeks and later occupied by the Carthaginians, Romans, Visigoths and Arabs. A 15th century artistic movement here gave the world spectacular paintings, sculptures, and jewels. Today a City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia offers visitors remarkable samples of modern architecture, alongside such notable classics as the 13th century Cathedral and Chapel of the Holy Chalice.

PORT-VENDRES, FRANCE Day 5 Located in southeastern France, today s Marseille is a far cry from the sleepy villages it once inspired in Cézanne s paintings. With more than a million people, the city remains the cosmopolitan and exuberant capital of southern Europe, with its picturesque Old Quarter, lively sidewalk cafes and shops, and Romanesque- Byzantine Notre Dame de la Garde Basilica, overlooking the steep cliffs and offering a bird s eye view of the city s colorful quartiers stretching down toward the sea. MONTE CARLO, MONACO Day 7 Explore pretty Collioure, a favorite destination of Matisse, with its distinctive pinkish-beige houses, colorful harbor, winding streets and lovely church and nearby Elne with its impressive fortified cathedral and beautiful cloister. Or visit magnificent Carcassonne, a breathtaking fortified hilltop city of turrets, churches, stained glass and lovely squares resurrected from ruin in the 19th-century. Look for antiques, contemporary art and reproductions as well as local crafts. Try some tempting roast lamb or the catch of the day accompanied by local cheese and fruit with the appropriate wine. PROVENCE (MARSEILLE), FRANCE Day 6 Tiny, but packed with fun, Monte Carlo offers a wonderful combination of history, beauty, entertainment and leisure. The wealthiest spot in Monaco, Monte Carlo is an enchanting place, known as the international capital of luxury and for its celebrity-sightings, casinos and nightlife. Yet the old world shines through in its art and architecture. Palaces, cathedrals and museums dot this small municipality in an old town full of rich history. Be sure to catch the once-daily changing of the guard, then tour the public areas at the Palais du Prince, home to the royal family, whose

BASTIA, FRANCE Day 9 Discover Corsica s most charming port as you walk along its cobbled streets and shop alongside locals. Stop for a delicious snack at one of the many cafes lining the 19th Livorno, located in the center of Tuscany, is the gateway to the glory of Renaissance Florence and Pisa.
