3 What is the Open Doors at Trasimeno initiative? Porte Aperte al Trasimeno, or Open Doors at Trasimeno, was designed to increase awareness of the Trasimeno area, which comprises 8 municipali es: Cas glione del Lago, Ci à della Pieve, Magione, Paciano, Panicale, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Piegaro and Tuoro sul Trasimeno. The landscape is graced with the blue hues of the lake, with hilltop towns steeped in history, art and flavours that are the very real guardians of culture and tradi on. The environment is under constant and close control, monitored by the Regional Environmental Protec on Agency, which studies samples of air, water and the soil to ensure that all conform to the strict regula ons s pulated by both Italian and European law. Life at Lake Trasimeno is slow-paced, everyone knows one another and the piazzas are hubs of encounter and social interac on. There is a gentle harmony here that makes this region unique, a harmony that the Etruscans had already iden fied as a representa on of heaven on earth, a place where life was good, where hospitality and human warmth s ll reigns.

6 BLU TOUR SATURDAY 12 MAY TOUR 1 Saturday morning Meet at the WELCOME TO PORTE APERTE stand at San Feliciano. Departure on a Trasimeno City Bus with multilingual tour guide to tour Castiglione del Lago. Route: Passignano sul Trasimeno Tuoro sul Trasimeno and a stop at Castiglione to visit the town and the Castello dei Duchi della Corgna. An experience that will take you back to a glorious time steeped in medieval atmosphere with the all pomp and circumstance of the palace, as well as a peek into some of the secrets riserve only to those who care to delve deeper into the history of the period. Return to San Feliciano and enjoy a snack offered by the Fishermen's Co-op. Activity: visit to the Fishing Museum and/or the La Valle Nature Oasis and/or Fisherman for an hour. The activity consists in finding the right spot to spread out the nets and gathering in the catch surrounded by the beauty of Lake Trasimeno park. PALAZZO DELLA CORGNA and the ROCCA DEL LEONE Palazzo della Corgna, also known as the Palazzo Ducale, was the main residence of the della Corgna family who governed from 1563 to Designed to be a small 'reggia', it was separate from the town and surrounded by a blooming garden. It connected to the Rocca del Leone, or the Lion's Fortress, a military fort built over Etruscan remains in the second half of the XII century.

BLU TOUR SATURDAY 12 MAY FISHERMAN FOR AN HOUR Every morning of the year, regardless of the weather, the mist or the northern winds, the rising sun finds the local fisherman busy at work on the lake, working their nets between rows of poles (tofi) in boats that have raised bows and dot the great lake with splashes of colour. Pike, tench, eel, carp and a local variety of whitebait thrive in Lake Trasimeno because of the very mild saline quality of the water, which gives the fish caught here exquisite quality, both in terms of flavour and nutrition.

8 BLU TOUR SATURDAY 12 MAY TOUR 3 Saturday afternoon Meet at the WELCOME TO PORTE APERTE stand in San Feliciano. Departure on a TRASIMENO CITY BUS with a multilingual guide to tour the Rocca di Passignano or enjoy activities with the rowers of the historic Palio delle Barche race. The outing consists of a guided tour in row boats led by the rowers who take part in the yearly Palio delle Barche event, an historical re-enactment in which the town's neighbourhoods compete. Meet up to continue to Tuoro sul Trasimeno and stop at Castiglione to tour the town. Return to San Feliciano. THE BOAT PALIO This race is a re-enactment of the last (1495) battle between two aristocratic Perugian families: the Baglioni and the Degli Oddi. It was a bloody battle that put Passignano at the centre of military operations when a small battalion of the Degli Oddi had to flee, boats on their backs, from the castle, with the Baglioni and Della Corgna militias hot on their heels. On the last Sunday of July, the town's four districts face one another in a competition that takes place both on the water and on land, through the town centre. The week leading up to the event, each district opens eateries (tavernas) where everyone can enjoy local fare and wine.

All of the routes are designed around themes of water, biodiversity, landscape, energy and a bit of fantasy. They were all created to provide visitors with direct contact with nature, real nature as a place of very real experiences.

FISHING MUSEUM This museum was founded to tell the story of the history and life of Lake Trasimeno, starting with the geological aspects, analyzing the fauna and the flora that flourish here, telling the story of the men and women who live along its shores, and who make a living by fishing: the boats, nets and other fishing tools. The rooms are named after the times of day that make up the work of a fisherman: dawn, midday, afternoon and evening.

At the Campo del Sole on the lakeshore you will listen to the story of the amazing battle between the Romans and the Carthginians of Hannibal the Great. GREEN TOUR Sunday 13 May HANNIBAL'S ROUTE The little town of Tuoro sul Trasimeno has gone down in history as the theatre of one of the bloodiest wars of antiquity: the Battle of Trasimene. It took place at dawn of 21 June, 217 BC and was one of the most important battles of the Second Punic War, with the Romans under Caio Flaminio being soundly defeated by the Carthaginians led by Hannibal.

ECO-MUSEUM OF PANICALE Panicale has been defined as the most beautiful natural terrace over Lake Trasimeno and offers visitors gorgeous views over the surrounding nature and a variety of historical monuments. The first settlers got there around the 2nd millennium BC, and since then it has been inhabited by Indo-Europeans, Umbrians, Etruscans and the Romans, all of whom left an indelible mark on it. Panicale had ties with Perugia and its history for a long time, as proven by the heraldic shield where alongside the symbol of the castle (a tower with sprigs of panic grass) is the griffon of Perugia.

GREEN TOUR SATURDAY 12 MAY ECO-MUSEUM OF PACIANO Paciano is listed as one of Italy's Loveliest Towns thanks to its beautiful medieval centre. The town is embraced by imposing walls graced with towers and homes. The wall is lined with various homes, one right next to the other, some of which are shaped like a tower. There are three main entrance gates along the perimeter: Porta Fiorentina, Porta Perugina, Porta Rastrella.

ECO-MUSEUM OF CITTÀ DELLA PIEVE Città della Pieve is the birthplace of Pietro Vannucci, kown as Il Perugino (1450 ca. 1523), one of the most important painters of Italy's Renaissance period and the teacher of Raphael. The city is home to some of his most important works of art, like the Adoration of the Magi at the Oratorio di Santa Maria dei Bianchi, the Baptism of Christ in the Cathedral, the Deposition of the Cross at the Santa Maria dei Servi museum.
