1 Travaux du Musbrn National djhistoire Naturelle ((Grigore Antipaw Vol. XLIII pp This paper is dedicated to the memory of our colleague Cristina Ana Hoinic CHRYSOMELIDAE (COLEOPTERA) FROM MARAMURES (ROMANIA) SANDA MAICAN, RODICA SERAFIM Abstract. Authors present a synthesis of data on Chrysomelidae species in the fauna of the region of Maramurev (northern Romania). Taxa list includes 190 species in 54 genera, belonging to 11 subfamilies. 29 species are reported for the first time in this area. Among 162 species cited in literature, 54 were found again. One notice the occurrence of some species endemic to the Carpathians: Chtysolina weisei, Sclerophaedon carpathicus, Asiorestia transsilvanica, Psylliodes frivaldsz~i. Rtsumt. Keywords: Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Maramure~, Romania. Data concerning the distribution of coleopterans in Maramureq were published by Frivaldszky, 1871 (in Maramureq, without other specifications; in the neighbourhood of Baia Mare city, Tisa Valley, Gutii Mts, Rodna Mts, Maramureq Mts); Kuthy, 1897 (Baia Mare, Tisa Valley, Gutii Mts, Maramureq Mts, Iza river basin); Bielz, 1887 (Rodna Mts), Petri, 1912, (Rodna Mts), Panin, 1944 (Rodna Mts), Csiki, 1951 (Rodna Mts, tributaries of Somequl Mare), Kaszab, 1962, Konnerth-Ionescu, 1963 (Rodna Mts), Roqca, 1973, 1974 (Rodna Mts), Gruev and coll., 1993 (Maramureq, Rodna Mts), Szel and coll., 1995 (Rodna Mts, Iza river basin). As it can be remarked in the bibliographical list, the leaf beetles fauna of Rodna Mts is relatively well known. In 1995 the "Grigore Antipa" National Museum of Natural History has begun the study of the fauna of Maramureq. Ggldean and Pirvu (1997) have published the goals of the research program in Maramureq (1). Several expeditions were organized during in the Maramureq Depression, in Iza Valley, in Rodna Mts ("Pietrosu Rodnei" National Park), in the Igniq Plateau, SCipinta river basin and in the Viqeu river basin, in the Gutii Mts, river Mara basin. MA TERlAL AND METHODS We have studied 1258 specimens (belonging to 83 species) collected by the museum' specialists during the expeditions between The material is proceeding from 50 new collecting localities and sites from Maramureq depression,

2 200 SANDA MAICAN, RODICA SERAFIM Rodna Mountains, Igni~ Plateau, SIpdnp River basin, Vi~eu River basin, Gutdi Mountains, Mara River basin (Fig. 1). We have synthetising data of the existing materials in the collections of the museum as well as data published during the period and we present for this area 188 leaf - beetles species. We also mentioned the species reported by Csiki from southern slopes of Rodna Mountains (although these belong to the Bistrita - NIs5ud departement). For every species in the taxa list, collecting sites and geographical distribution are mentioned. The species reported for the first time in Maramure~ are marked in the list with*. Bold numbers in brackets refers to the printed papers. The collecting stations in figure 1. Systhematic presentation and nomenclature are corresponding to the papers of Kippenberg and Doberl (1994), Warchalowski (1985, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998). Synonymies were included only when referred to in older papers. Abbreviations: Names of the collectors: A.G. - Andrei Gabriela; H.C. - Hoinic Cristina; M.I. - Matache Ioana; P.C. - Pdrvu Corneliu.; P.An. - Petri~or Angela; P.A. - Podlusshny Attila; P.S. - Proche~ verban; R.I. - Rozner Istvan; R.E. - Rusu Elena; S.R. - Serafim Rodica; S.A. - Stgnescu Aurora; S.M. - StInescu Mihaela; V.A. - VIraru Adriana. Other abbreviations: f.h. - forestry house; spec. - specimenjs; Mt./Mts - mountainls. RESULTS Among the 83 species identified by the authors, 54 were already known from litterature; 29 species are reported for the first time in Maramure~. Most species belong to the subfamilies: Chrysomelinae (68 species), Alticinae (61 species), Cryptocephalinae (21 species), Cassidinae (10 species). Others subfamilies are represented by a smaller number of species: Galerucinae (9 species), Clytrinae (7 species), Donaciinae (5 species), Criocerinae (5 species), Eumolpinae (2 species), Orsodacninae (2 species), Zeugophorinae (1 species). Most numerous recordings are from Rodna Mountains, which were better studied. Many of these data are very old (Frivadszky, 1871; Kuthy, 1900; Petri 1912, ; Csiki, 1951); the most recent are those published by SzCl and coll. in Species like Plateumaris consimilis, Labidostomis longimana, Pachybrachis sinuatus, Cryptocephalus bipunctatus, Ciyptocephalus hypochoeridis, Cryptocephalus moraei, Chrysolina herbacea, Chrysolina fastuosa, Chrysolina polita, Chrysolina varians, Chrysomela collaris, Gastrophysa viridula, Linaeidea aenea, Crepidodera aurata are frequent in this area. We mention the occurrence of some mountain species, distributed within the alpine-carpathian chain: Chrysolina carpathica, Chrysolina lichenis, Chrysolina crassimargo, Chrysolina hemisphaerica, Chrysolina marcasitica, Chrysolina olivieri, Chrysolina purpurascens, Chrysolina rufa, Chrysolina umbratilis, Chrysolina cuprina, Oreina alpestris, Oreina bifrons decora, Oreina intricata, Oreina virgulata, Oreina speciosissima, Oreina cacaliae senecionis, Oreina
