Our journey takes place at the beginning of the Fall and with good fortune we might witness the beginning of the seasonal change in foliage and the autumnal colours of the New ngland states. Further south we will experience pleasant temperatures as we immerse ourselves in the glorious colonial architecture of Virginia, the Carolina s and Georgia. In just two weeks we cover a great swathe of America visiting some of the most famous places that were the foundation of the nation from Boston to Washington and beyond. Our onboard speakers will bring the history of the region to life from the arrival of the British at Jamestown Island, through to the American Revolution and the War of Indepenence. Bellamy Mansion, Wilmington Of course when planning a voyage along the eastern coast we couldn t omit the great and iconic cities of Boston, New York and Washington, however, for many it will be the less well known ports of call we will visit which will be the most memorable. We will admire the colonial influenced architecture of Newport in Rhode Island and Williamsburg in all its 18th century glory and spend a day in Martha s Vineyard, a world famous resort just across from the Massachusetts coast. Further south we spend time exploring elegant Beaufort, a quaint fishing town, with magnificent antebellum homes and gardens. Our journey along the coastline of the Southern States begins in Norfolk Virginia and includes Wilmington in North Carolina, beautifully preserved Charleston in South Carolina and we also visit Savannah, an elegant city founded in 1733 where we will see some of its enchanting architecture. Our penultimate day will be a well-deserved relaxing day at sea enjoying the luxurious facilities of the Silver xplorer as we sail to Nassau from where we return home.

3 Portland Head Lighthouse Central Park, New York the itinerary Day 1 London to Boston, USA. Fly by scheduled flight. Arrive this afternoon and transfer to our centrally located hotel for an overnight stay. Remainder of the day and evening at leisure. Day 2 Boston to Portland. After breakfast in the hotel we willl enjoy a morning tour of Boston. We will view the Old North Church inspired by the works of Christopher Wren. Built in 1723 it is where Paul Revere began his midnight ride of April 1775 preceding the Battles of Lexington and Concord during the American Revolution. We will also have some free time around Faneuil Hall, where patriots such as Samuel Adams gave speeches promoting independence from British rule. After lunch we will drive north to Portland where we embark the Silver xplorer and sail in the early evening. Day 3 Newport, Rhode Island. Through the years Newport has made a name for itself in a variety of manners, first as a colony founded on religious freedom, later as the summer playground for the American socialite families including Kennedy and isenhower, also as a key location for the United States Navy, and then as the yachting centre. A principal 18th century port city, Newport now boasts amongst the highest number of surviving colonial builds of any city in the United States. Our morning tour will explore the opulent ocean-side mansions including the Breakers and Marble house designed for the Vanderbilts in the late 19th century. We return to the Silver xplorer for lunch and this afternoon is at leisure to explore independently. Perhaps enjoy Newport s Cliff Walk, a one and a quarter mile path that takes us along the rocky coastline by the backyards of the palatial houses culminating at The lms, one of the grandest villas and one of the first Newport homes to be fully electrified. Please note that we will be at anchor today and Zodiacs will be used. Day 4 Martha s Vineyard. Over a century ago, Martha s Vineyard was one of the world s most important whaling centres. Today, its picturesque landscape of fishing villages and beautiful beaches is home to local, summertime and celebrity residents. On a morning tour we will visit the village of West Tisbury, see the gingerbread cottages of Oak Bluffs and dgartown, an architectural gem of 18th and 19th century sea captains houses and other historic buildings. Later, you will have the opportunity to stroll along the harbour or discover the town s fine boutiques and restaurants. Please note that we will be at anchor today and Zodiacs will be used. Day 5 New York City. To stand on deck whilst we sail into New York City past the Statue of Liberty is a truly breath-taking experience. On arrival into New York there will be a choice of tours this morning, either enjoy the city highlights of Manhattan as we pass the mpire State building, Central Park and Times Square before stopping at the 9/11 Memorial, and ending at the Rockefeller Centre where we travel 70 floors to the Observation deck for wonderful views over the city. Alternatively join us as we take one of the ferries at Battery Park and enjoy a morning at the Statue of Liberty and llis Island. Here we will see the location where around 12 million steerage and third class steamship passengers were processed for immigration into the USA between 1892 and Now a museum, we get a fascinating insight into the immigrant s experience. The afternoon is free to explore independently. Maybe visit the legendary artists and writers quarter of Greenwich Village, enjoy shopping on Fifth Avenue, visit one of the world famous galleries such as the Guggenheim in the Upper ast Side or the Museum of Natural History. If you prefer to escape from the hubbub, enjoy a stroll around Central Park or along the Highline. We sail just before midnight so you have the whole evening to enjoy this iconic city. Day 6 At sea. njoy a relaxing day. Join one of the lectures and enjoy the facilities on board. Day 7 Baltimore & Washington, D.C. Baltimore is a truly great American city full of colonial and maritime history and our base for a day of exploration. In the morning there will be the opportunity to join a half day city tour of Baltimore including Fort McHenry which is best known for its role in the War of 1812 and is now a National Monument and the vibrant hub of Fells Point steeped in maritime history. We end at the inner harbour where we climb to the Top of the World observation deck with views over the harbour and beyond. Alternatively with Washington D.C at close proximity, you may choose to do a full day tour of the capital city including the U.S. Capitol Building, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the White House. Another option is a full day tour of Mount Vernon, the home of George and Martha Washington. For more than forty years, George Washington, Commander-in- Chief of American forces in the Revolutionary War and the first President of the United States, called Mount Vernon home. We will visit the Mansion, more than a dozen original structures, Washington s Tomb, and nearly fifty acres of his extensive plantation. Towards the end of the tour there will be some free time to explore the Old Town Alexandria nearby. Day 8 Norfolk. From the port of Norfolk, our excursion leads to historic Colonial Williamsburg, the capital of the Virginia colony from 1699 to Once the political and economic centre of the Virginia colony, Williamsburg is the nation s premier living museum, offering

A guided tour leads us along the Duke of Gloucester Street, Williamsburg s main thoroughfare, past the Capitol, the courthouse, the Governor s Palace and the historic Bruton Parish Church, which has held piscopal services here since We will enjoy lunch in one of the colonial taverns. This afternoon there will be some free time to explore Norfolk or visit Yorktown, one of the three colonial-era settlements. Yorktown has played an important role in both American Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Return to the vessel and sail this evening. Day 9 Morehead City for Beaufort. After a morning at sea we arrive in Morehead City. From here we travel across to elegant Beaufort, a quaint fishing town, with magnificent antebellum homes and gardens. There will be an opportunity to tour the North Carolina Maritime Museum, stroll around the old town and visit the wild horses of Shackleford Banks, a unique historic and cultural legacy, where their descendants reportedly swam ashore from a sinking Spanish ship in the 16th century. Day 10 Wilmington, North Carolina. Situated between the sea and Cape Fear River, historic Wilmington was founded in It was named in honour of Spencer Compton, arl of Wilmington, who was a patron of North Carolina s Governor at the time. To this day, visitors are reminded of its rich history by the grand old homes and tree-lined boulevards making Wilmington one of the most beautiful small cities in the south. Our morning tour will include the beautiful antebellum Bellamy Mansion and Thalian Hall, a working historic 1858 theatre which is listed on the national register of historic places. Remainder of day is at leisure. Day 11 Charleston, South Carolina. Today we will travel to Savannah to visit the Massie Heritage Museum. Housed in the historic Massie School Building, the Massie Heritage Centre is one of the nation s earliest heritage education programs. Since 1975 the centre s programs and exhibitions have provides an insight into the historic environment of the city and teachers with basic information for classroom teaching and outdoor experiences. xhibits include a collection of period costumes and information on state and local history, as well as historic preservation. One outstanding exhibition documents the Greek, Gothic, and Roman influence on Savannah s architectural history. Days 12 Charleston. Famous for its blend of cultures our second day in Charleston will see us exploring Southern antebellum architecture and culture further. We will tour the city, visiting the historic district and taking a boat over to Fort Sumter. Known as the place where the shots that started the Civil War were fired, Fort Sumter s construction began in 1829 on a sand bar to defend the harbour of Charleston and had not fully been completed when the war started. Passing Fort Sumter in the afternoon, Silver xplorer will be heading south on her way to the Bahamas.
