They will enlighten you through fascinating lectures, guided excursions, and daily recaps. Brent Stephenson Born in New Zealand, Brent has been an avid birder since childhood. In 2005 he completed his PhD, studying the breeding biology of Australasian gannets in New Zealand. Brent is the co-owner of a bird-guiding business. His passion for travel, birds, and the ocean has led him to many corners of the world working on small expedition vessels. Rich Pagen Rich first became enthralled by the wonders of the natural world around the tide pools and forests of his native New York. Since then, he has embarked on a career in conservation biology, including a variety of field biology projects. Rich was ultimately drawn back to the sea. He taught marine science and island ecology on Catalina Island in California for several years. He has also conducted shipboard surveys for marine mammals and seabirds, as well as tagging studies of sea turtles and pelagic sharks. Book your next journey with the HAA today! At the Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, observe these unusual primates during feeding time, then visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Beneath a cathedral-like canopy, you can watch young orangutans as they swing through the trees to a feeding platform. These gentle arboreal apes, often orphans, are rehabilitated and taught to live in the wild before eventual release into their natural habitat. Take a cruise along the Kinabatangan River, home to Hose s langurs, crab-eating macaques, reticulated pythons, the rare and endangered Storm s stork, and all eight species of Bornean hornbill. Monday, March 14 Sandakan, Malaysia Arrive in Sandakan in the late afternoon and check in to the Four Points Sheraton. Gather at the hotel this evening for a welcome reception and dinner. Tuesday, March 15 Sandakan / Embark Caledonian Sky This morning we drive to an area of lowland rainforest, home of the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Here, observe young orangutans, many of them orphans, who are rehabilitated and taught to live in the wild. Embark Caledonian Sky this afternoon. Wednesday, March 16 Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines Arrive in Puerto Princesa this afternoon. Learn about the Batak tribe at the local cultural center and watch a weaving demonstration at Binuatan Creations. Or seek out the Palawan flycatcher, melodious babbler, and other resident species on a birding tour. Thursday, March 17 Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park Today visit Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, a marine and bird sanctuary that covers over 370 square miles. Part of the Coral Triangle, this area was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to.a high density of marine species and important breeding grounds for seabirds and marine.turtles. Spend the day snorkeling or diving over pristine reefs. Friday, March 18 Coron Island Explore the natural and cultural wonders of Coron, including an active hike up Coron s vertical cliffs, which is rewarded with breathtaking views of Kayangan Lake. Afterward, enjoy an opportunity to swim in the crystal-clear waters. In the afternoon, visit the indigenous Tagbanwa who.will showcase their rich traditions with a performance and display of handicrafts. Saturday, March 19 Apo Reef The second-largest contiguous coral reef in the world after the Great Barrier Reef, Apo offers a kaleidoscope of hard and soft corals. Discover luminescent anemones and nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses, pipefish, and other wondrous small creatures, as well as large pelagics such as sharks, tuna, and barracudas. Sunday, March 20 Sibuyan Island This morning you are welcomed ashore with a traditional Pag-alad performance. Then board Jeepneys the colorful symbols of Philippine culture for a scenic drive to the Cantingas River s hydro plant, a major source of the island s clean energy. Learn about the process of harvesting and milling rice, using the traditional bayo method. Then roll up your sleeves, head into the field, and lend a hand planting rice seedlings. Continue to Dagubdob Falls, a series of cascades surrounded by dense tropical forest. After a lunch of local delicacies, walk with naturalists to search for flora and fauna, or take a swim in the cool freshwater pool. Monday, March 21 Balicasag After a morning at sea, enjoy excellent snorkeling or diving at Balicasag, a marine protected area. Tuesday, March 22 Bohol / Pamilacan Island Rise early this morning for a scenic drive through the countryside, past emerald rice paddies and forested hillsides. Arrive at the Chocolate Hills, a unique landscape of almost perfectly conical hills, and ascend to the viewing platform for commanding views. 5 Manila Wednesday, March 23 Camiguin Island Today, venture into the foothills of Mount. Hibok- Hibok, an active volcano, then make a stop at the 245-foot-high Katibawasan Falls and take a dip in the refreshing pool. After visiting a village and local market, enjoy a feast of traditional dishes, fresh seafood, and lechon, a whole roasted pig. After this, snorkel or dive off a nearby island. Thursday, March 24 Pintuyan / Limasawa Board local boats to search for whale sharks, often found feeding around Pintuyan. This afternoon, visit beautiful Limasawa Island.
