4 Moleskine a legend on the move A legendary story The Moleskine notebook is the heir and successor to the legendary notebook used by artists and thinkers over the past two centuries, from Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso to Ernest Hemingway and Bruce Chatwin. A nameless, pocket-sized black object that held the sketches, stories and ideas that would one day become famous paintings or the pages of beloved books. In 1997, a small Milanese publisher brought the legendary notebook back to life, reviving this extraordinary tradition. Now Moleskine accompanies the creative travelers and explorers of our time. On the contrary, they tend to become the focus of affection, and are designed expressly to be kept and treasured. Our attachment only grows over time, because each one is imbued with the thoughts and feelings of its owner. Still, it may also be made out of materials that impact in some way on the environment. The Moleskine Company is actively engaged in taking every possible precaution to help safeguard the health of the environment. Moleskine notebooks are made with environmentally friendly acid-free paper. All new Moleskine paper production is certified FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), for a responsible management of the world s forests. Everything Moleskine now produces is PVCfree and compliant with California Proposition 65. Made through a combination of automated and manual processes, every item in the new Moleskine collections is designed for durability and submitted to strict quality control procedures. 5

Design A designer fit for a legend The creative imagination behind the new Moleskine collections is that of freethinking Italian designer Giulio Iacchetti.

Matteo Ragni now included in the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York. That project won the Compasso d Oro design award in 2001.

In the same year, Milan s Triennale gallery held a solo show of his work entitled Giulio Iacchetti. Disobedient Objects.

8 Design A designer fit for a legend The creative imagination behind the new Moleskine collections is that of freethinking Italian designer Giulio Iacchetti. Known for his open, inclusive approach, he specializes in creating new categories of object like the famous Moscardino, a multi-purpose utensil developed together with Matteo Ragni now included in the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York. That project won the Compasso d Oro design award in Iacchetti was also awarded Italy s National Prize for Innovation in In the same year, Milan s Triennale gallery held a solo show of his work entitled Giulio Iacchetti. Disobedient Objects. In addition to his work as an industrial designer and art director, Iacchetti teaches in various universities and design schools in Italy and around the world. With his mold-breaking creative perspective and democratic style, he was the perfect choice to enhance the legendary Moleskine brand with an inspired selection of original design objects.
